The Sir Jack Brabham Invitational

It’s the moderators half term break – but there will be fun race on Sunday 28th for those who need their weekly fix of GPL.

I’m aware that Goodwood is prone to discos & whilst over risky for championship races it’s just too good to be ignored.

This will be a 1965 Mod race & restricted to either the BT7 or BT11. Those drivers who regularly compete in the higher leagues (Works / Pros) sho
uld take the BT7. Those in the middle (Inters) can make their own choice.

This will be a single race over 35 laps.

The race will not be moderated but you are requested to follow normal GPL rules & take a Stop & Go following every Reset.

Race List = IGOR
Server = T7
Race date = Sunday 28-10-2012
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=7173#entry65855
Race length = 35 laps
Variant = 1965
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = max. 30 minutes

That was a shame, just getting in to a bit of a rhythm again and putting a few consistent laps together and got screen freeze. Never mind.

Some good racing going on there. Nice driving guys.

Yes it all ended in a mass disco...some of the dancing was excellent so I am told.  It looks like this track will have to go on the black list until Ginetto or someone can work their magic on it..very sad as I like this track.

First of all apologies to Gareth (at least I think it was Gareth, as there is no replay) for the contact at Woodcote.  My fault  death  I got surprised when you braked much earlier and harder than I do there, I had to stick it down the inside to avoid rear ending you and ended up alongside you at the apex.

Unfortunately GPL always punishes the car on the outside  Undecided

Thanks to those who turned out & apologies for the end result.
Looks as though the server might have failed as my (& some others) screen blacked out. This was a bit differemt from the screen freeze that I've had with this track before. All things considered I guess we had best put Goodwood on the black list - which is a shame as its such a great circuit.
The race results are not going to be imported.

no problem clive it was 50/50 in my view. grats on the pole. I was particularly impressed by the moderators comment  when you piped me to pole, i nearly fell of my chair laughing, child!
I must appologies to some as was in the pack trying to make up places too quickly and was a bit arratic so sorry to anyone invloved, ended up spining for the third or fourth time and jacked it in.

any hoot, shame the track is no good for racing as its a nice track

Goodwood sits 10km from the town where I grew up, so obviously, it's a good track for racing. Cool

Andreas helped out with the entertainment, this time around.  He came past me 3 different times whilst wavering towards a podium.  2nd time was an outside pass at Woodcote, which showed some daring on his part, and some forbearing on mine!  3rd time I left too much room, and parted company with a wheel. And soon after, things went black at the disco.  So, Unless there's a replay, the outcome will remain a mystery?

As we have some empty race slots this week, is there any interest in holding a Can-Am race?  Or is Ukgpl waiting to be the last online organization to do this? Undecided

Funny Martin should mention that. After the disco I d/loaded the Can-Am Mod and in ten minutes was blasting around Goodwood. Haha, loads of fun but of course the AI was no good as its not an official mod track. One thing though, it may be my ears but all the cars sound the same, wonder if I have a corrupted file?

How about a Can Am race at somewhere like Mid Ohio? a real Can Am track and a little different from our usual venues?

Can-Am's were mostly American big-block V8's.  Their voices were deep and rumbling - not really musical to the ear, nor easy to reproduce on small speakers.  The Porsche and Ferrari are more interesting though.  GT's have enclosed cockpits, so it's a mistake to rely on sound from other cars.  But these '71's are open, and it's important to listen for them, as realistic mirrors are not very helpful.

The Ai are not very helpful either ATM.  Let's hope they receive an update in the future.  Until then, we might have to try racing online. Cheesy

It's a good place to race, but needs learning.  New cars and new track together might be a major challenge, and if Cookie's organizing, he might already have chosen.  I hope we're given some advance notice as to our destiny, which I now request to see.  chef

EDIT  :  Just noticed the announcement for a Funrace tommorrow.  Cookie does not intend to Moderate afterwards, but makes us do a boring rolling start?  And only Porsches  to race with, when 8 cars are there to be learnt?  I would expect the men amongst us, to be able to handle a proper start, and more powerful cars.  I hope another Moderator will hold a Can-Am race sometime - I won't be racing at this one!  Tongue
