Moderator's Report

Only two incidents in the zone and both are rear enders leading into T1.

Server replay time: 0h01m01s

Nigel gets a great run up the inside but the line is awkward into T1 and his early braking catches Rob by surprise. Rob should have been a bit more cautious given where he was on the track and although Nigel is braking very early it was not unlikely that he would do so being on the right and it being Lap 1.

I have ameliorated the penalty by one place to take account of the fact that Rob did what he could but was too late reacting. It is sometimes too tempting to keep the foot down when discretion would be better all round. Been there myself... recently <ahem>.

  • Rotaxmax125 (Rob Venn)penalty — Blatant Rear End Shunt - 1 place plus 1 for Red Zone — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 0h01m21s

Phillipe gets past Adam and then is cautious on the brakes for T1. Adam misjudges the closing speed and for the second race M. Girard is an innocent victim at T1.

On the bright side I am not involved...

Adam had quite a lot of room to stay left. His sin here is moving right.

  • Adam Cooperpenalty — Blatant Rear End Shunt - 2 places plus 1 for Red Zone — 3 places lost

The Novices Trophy arrives in MittelEuropa among the hills of Styria in central Austria. Couple of nice long straights with tricky bends at the end make this a good test. Originally built in 1969 to replace the bland and bumpy Zeltweg Airfield circuit (don't get the wrong track!), the Österreichring track was known for being very fast, as every corner was a fast sweeper and were taken in no lower than 3rd gear in a 5-speed gearbox and 4th in a 6-speed gearbox, as well as noticeable changes in elevation during the course of a lap. If you can manage that gearing you will be doing quite well!

In line with the new handicapping system, only Rob is handicapped and we might abandon this when he has won the championship - no point - It might make a difference here but I am not banking on it. Rob seems to LIKE the BT7!!!

Handicapped Driver(s)Allowed Chassis
Rotaxmax125BT7

Please check the Season 23 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular.

Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Novice Trophy races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the Lap 1 red zone will be moderated and reported incidents for the rest of the race, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident. Drivers can take UNLIMITED Shift-R but MUST take a Stop n Go for each one. The Red Zone is start to the exit of turn 8 (see below).

Please ensure you are aware of the new in-series penalties for this season. Details are here. Drivers incurring a penalty will receive a PM informing them of this."

Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Practiced REALLY hard for this. I was threatening a 1:52.x and felt confident I could get a podium. Super cautious start (I could have muscled past Billy and Giovani but it was just too risky) and then settled. Billy and I had closed up nicely to Rob and I was preparing for a super tow when....

FREEZE. Bugger.

Next stop Monaco - which I hate.

Well, that was surprisingly good fun!    From what I could see, it all seemed well-mannered out there too.

Took a couple of spins round here last night with the Lotus & the 'fast' Brabham.  Difference for me was marginal [Lotus actually .19 better,  with Prib suggesting .14 better]  although we're still talking 1:54 here.   Was a bit of a wake-up call when I joined the practice server just before the main event & 1:50 was on display. Eeek!

Come the event; was still a toss-up either way & finally opted for the Brabham.

Setup-wise; with that tight bit & a bump/hump - clearly another Mosport-esque location!

Pleasantly happy with qually & no drama come the start of the race.  Latched onto the back of a nimble BT7 & that was the race run.  Unfortunately, the championship-leader does not seem to make mistakes Smiley

Even if I had managed to get past, I certainly would not have managed to stay there & I certainly would not have been able to close the gap to the others.

I was really quite happy to be quite a way into the race & whilst exiting the last corner - able to see positions 1-3 on the same straight!

All in all - pleased with that one.   But did someone say Monaco next?  hmmm...

Cheers all,
Dave.

A pleasantly uneventful race for me, starting from the front I got a good start and tried to keep a good pace. I managed to stay on track and get my first win... Yippee

Great time in Quali, and a massive well done for your first win. You'll have plenty more wins in the future.

Well done to Johnny, Giovanni, Rob & Dave C. As far as I can see you all drove cleans laps for the whole race. I made up a couple of places off the start line but was a little to tentative through the Bosch  Curve & dropped back to my original place. I lost touch with the Rob / Dave C battle (which lasted most of the race). I managed to keep them in sight but too far away for a tow & they stubbornly refuse to have any sort of incident.
Stick with it Boggy – your pace is close enough. Johnny had a whole series of connection / computer problems at the beginning of the season & look where he is now.

Not sure whether I can make the next race at Monaco – no great shame as I’ve never got the hang of it.

Well done Johnny. Well deserved. Bot sure you are going to catch Rob though. BT7 at Monaco is no handicap at all.

It's been a full day since my maiden victory and I'm still well chuffed. I'm sure it will all seem distant when I'm on the grid at Monaco. I know full well that the chance of a win is only because Rob is shackled to a BT7 and even then they are pretty quick shackles. On checking the table it seems I also acquired a win last time out at Silverstone after Giovanni was penalised. I forgot to congratulate the other drivers in my last post probably because I was a bit giddy but well done chaps- shame there were a few disconnects and also for Al's accident.

Very hard race for me and I think I was a bit lucky to keep Dave behind me. Well Done Johnny
It looks like if Johnny wins the last two races and I'm outside the top three in both of them the championship is his (basically in the BT7 top three in Monaco is possible, but everyone is getting faster, and top three in Monza would be incredibly hard)

Top three on a power track Rob and if Johnny gets that close he will be handicapped too, but Monaco will be 'interesting'

I have never managed better than a 1:35 there and yesterday I did some practice after my freeze and got a 1:33.4 - hooray. Tried again today, 1:36 - gulp. Cheesy

As regards the championship, best eight count. So Johnny can only get 350 points max. If he fails to podium in Monaco he could not best your current score. Anyone remember Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill? lol
