Last minute opportunity to race so I thought I'd use up one of my massers. I usually get to like cars as I learn to drive them, but not with this brute and it just got worse the longer the race went on as the tyres wore out unevenly. A real handful.

Fortunately what it lost in the corners it made up for on the straights which made for an entertaining couple of laps with Mark's fezza until he lost it in the final complex. After that it was a case of just trying to keep the thing under control and attempting to preserve my tyres.

Undecided Almost had a race with Goldtop but after around 3 laps got lag into the final turns and went off. Its sad because we were fairly close Goldtop.  Wink......But your Maserati was like a rocket coming out of Lavant Corner, so much more power than the Ferrari. I managed to keep you pegged for a while then had another offet. These cars a really fun to drive but very hard to keep putting in solid lap times all race long.  Smiley

A bit of a thin field again!
I was in touch with Simjunkies recently and they no longer run GTL at all  :'( although there was some mention of Altbierbude running weekly races.  Undecided

Fairly uneventful race for me in the unexciting Mercedes. Wanted a slow car for this race (but not too slow) so choose the Merc over the two Jags. Was pleased with my times, level with Kurt, so was confident that I could get some points. On lap one, at St Mary's both Bill and Kurt kindly fell off the track in front of me allowing me to progress up the field. GT and Mark were already too far ahead and pulling away so I concentrated on trying to keep Oliver in sight. He then disapeared with a DQ? so I was up to third. Which is where I stayed for the remainder of the race.

We noticed that just before the race start Syd tried to join but had a problem. Hope you get that sorted.

Yeah, I got car not present error. Probably Ferrari 375 which I hadn't downloaded. By the time I did the race had started. I didn't check the race thread, and didn't see there was a new car to download.

thanks for the video links Tony. How has he got those visuals to look so good? They look more like Forza4 kind of graphics than ye-olde GTL  Huh  Very swish.

The cars and in-cockpit views look great but a couple of the cars didnt look like they were moving about properly on track, looked a bit dis-connected from the track and like they were on rails  Undecided i expected arms full of opposite lock and drifting. How do they feel in game? (handling wise).

Definitely worth watching that program, its first in a new series. It has a great old soundtrack and tons of old footage.

Plenty of sideways action in these 50's cars MJ, my particular favourite being the DBR1 Cool

Depends how you drive them really MJ. If I'm going sideways it usually means I'm about to crash out. They are good fun though and the physics is decent enough to imagine what it must have been like back in the day  Shocked The sounds are very cool  Cool

Doesn't look like this series is on iplayer unless they're late putting it up. Looks like another one for the recorder.

Edit: Episode 1 repeated at 02:00 tomorrow morning  Smiley

I think the vids were to show off car graphics and sound rather than handling. Barring the Mercedes they all have distinct handling "quirks". They really make you feel like your driving a huge engine on skinny tyres and throttle application in the lower gears is a definite skill as the torque physics are extremely well modelled. Too much loud pedal too soon and your off as quick as a wink. Also the tyre wear is a huge factor in this mod as the depreciation is quite rapid and once you reach a certain point you have to drive them very gingerly indeed. You need to see GT, Mark and other  alien's slide these beasts around; it's visual poetry.
