UKGPL starts the new year 2013 with some F2 fun

Aintree Motor Racing Circuit is a 3-mile (4.83 km) motor racing circuit in the village of Aintree, Merseyside, England. The circuit is located within the famous Aintree Racecourse and used the same grandstands as horse racing. The circuit has hosted the Formula One British Grand Prix five times, in 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1962 and saw Stirling Moss’ first GP victory in 1955.

We will do a nearly full Grand Prix distance in INT mode to burn some of the calories you accumulated in the holidays.   Grin
It’s a fun race, with 2x limited Shift+R but you are asked to observe the normal GPL rule of taking a Stop & Go after every reset.
You have a free car choice.
Please note the slightly earlier start time of 8.45 UK time.

Race List =   IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = tba
Race date = 06-01-2013
Qualification Time   = 20:45  UK time 20 mins
Race Time = race start at ~21:05 UK time
Track = Aintree
Variant = F2 67
Damage Model = INT
Race length = 60 laps
Password = see above
Replay = you will get here

Have fun and luck!

EDIT:
As it is a fun race I changed to INT mode to make it possible to finish for more people...
BUT you will have only 2 x S+R with a Stop and Go!

Race will finish about an hour too late for comfort - I have an early start in the morning so I may not participate, or at the very best would expect to retire to bed at about half distance!

LOL not nicotine for me but a toilet break might be necessary for some of us wheelchair

You can stop in the pits and provided you stop exactly in your pit box (as we had to do for the long GT pit stops).  You won't get discoed and you should be able to take a comfort break.  Might loose a lap or 2 in the process though LOL

We decided in the chat to reduce the distance to 50 laps = 90 min!

well that's me out on lap four.
I got caught out at lap 2 by another drivers utter stupidity and cost me my firstt reset, then 3 laps later the car starts handling badly following a half spin so I decided that I'm clearly not "in the zone" and quit.
One note to all involved, I saw plenty of evidence of moderatable offences in those first few laps tonight, causing collisions, bad rejoins etc. If we behave like that in the divisional races we can expect to be raped by the moderators!

There was some moderatable language in the chat during qually as well Mr B!!

Well that was quite an experience....as ever reasonably happy to finish 4th, but thinking about what could have been. I had an off on L1/L2 and had to Shift R, and the punishment chassis 2 took was amazing. I had loads of offs, including 5 consecutive laps just after the kink at the end of the main straight. Expected the car to give up, but I managed 30/35 laps before a silly little mistake avoiding the leader lapping me got me stuck in the grandstand and called up my last allowable Shift R.

Ronnie - presume you regret your setup? Had great fun chasing you down, spinning, chasing you down etc a number of times, but you were so easy to catch because you didn't have the speed on the straight. You me and Cookie has some good racing. Speaking of which, what happened to you Cookie? After we'd got away from Ronnie we had some close racing, and then I lost it on the kink and overtook you on the grass as I couldn't take a corner. I slowed and let you pass me back, but you span 2/3 corners later and I didn't see you again.

Well done to everyone that took part tonight

After a disappointing start when I was rear ended trying to slow down for the carnage ahead I settled down to have quite a good race.  I had to make a S&G which put me near the back and without Prib I had no idea where I was apart from near the back!  Had a nice battle with Bernie and in the latter stages with Cookie.  Pleased to get 5th and I've no idea where my fastest lap came from.  I obviously did something right on that lap!  I'll have to check the lap with GPLRA to see if it is genuine and just where I made up so much time.

Yeah. Phil I think you did it in a tow... Wink

I hate these F2s, they have a very strange fuel consumption, if you have to push harder they seem to eat much more.

I was rearended in lap 1 by Arf but had no harm left, so I made some places up until about the half distance when I saw that my fuel will not be enough to finish comfortable. I had taken 6 litres more than the predicted...
This confused me quite a bit and I made some stupid mistakes so I lost place after place....

I must apologise for the carnage at the end of the straight on Lap 1.
I think I was running in 3rd spot behind Gareth and Tris as we hit the braking zone for the blind flick through the hedges and......my screen went black!!!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

I thought I had suffered a disco and was frantically hitting the escape key. Then suddenly the screen came back to life and my car was against the greenery ,but surrounded by other cars ...oops!!  thumbdown thumbdown no The car had all 4 wheels and the engine was still running so I quietly slipped away from the scene of the accident.

Sorry to anyone who suffered from that, but I had a similar blackout in a GT race at Spa before Christmas and I am wondering WTF is going on. Al did mention that he had experienced something similar when he was running Windows XP and switched to Windows7.
Does anyone else have any thoughts?

After my recovery Tris and Gareth were long gone and although I managed to get myself up to 3rd place I could not close the gap. So I had a lonely race with only the occasional backmarker to pass. In the last few laps my brain was in meltdown and I made several mistakes, but fortunately none of them caused any lasting damage and the car got me to the finish and a podium.

I enjoyed the race but would have enjoyed it even more if it involved some more racing alongside other cars rather than watching prib each lap to see if the gap had changed.
Thanks to Axel for organising and grats to Tris and Gareth for their performance.
