Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

Despite losing out on pole position to Attilio, Hristo gets a great start from the second row and leads after the first lap. From then on he isn't troubled and pulls away for an easy win. In his efforts to match Hristo's pace, Attilio makes a small mistake at The Loop on lap 9 running wide and damaging his suspension so he has to retire. Evil inherits second place but his race ends prematurely on lap 12 again at The Loop when his screen blanked. Hard luck Clive. It was then Andy Livingston's turn to claim second place which he kept to the finish. Well done Andy. The final podium place went to David Rainier on his debut in the Works division. A very impressive start. Congratulations David.

There were no reported incidents and nothing untoward in the red zone. A very clean race, well done everyone.

Season 24 Works Trophy (67) - Round 1 - Watkins Glen

The first round of the season will be in the USA, a Papyrus original to get us off to an easy start with none of the potential complications of an add-on track.

Watkins Glen International ("The Glen") is an auto race track located near Watkins Glen, New York, at the southern tip of Seneca Lake. It was long known around the world as the home of the United States Grand Prix, which it hosted for 20 consecutive years (1961–1980). In the early years races passed through the heart of the town with spectators lining the sidewalks, but after a car left the road in a 1952 race, killing one spectator and injuring several others, the race was moved to a new location on a wooded hilltop southwest of town. Later a permanent race course was constructed on 550 acres, overlapping part of the previous course. Despite improvements, the circuit became unable to safely handle the increasingly faster and stiffer ground effect cars of the late 70s and a few horrendous, sometimes fatal accidents and increasingly rowdy segments of the crowd began to tarnish its image. Finally, in May, 1981, several months after Alan Jones had won the 1980 race for Williams, the International Auto Sports Federation removed the race from its schedule because the track had failed to pay its debts to the teams.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : original Papyrus track

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start line to the exit of The Loop. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Thanks Fulvio thumbup1

I haven't started a server for a while.  Is it OK if I run a few practice sessions to make sure I can remember what to do?  Is there any night that I couldn't try the server?

You needn't worry Phil there is a great graphical walk through here. Just follow this, because whoever did it was awesome

LOL Wink

You can start UKGPL3 any time from tonight as a 'free' practice but you could 'contact' GPG without starting the race to ensure that the iGOR accepts your credentials. I think GPG is used on Fridays but it is presumably multi-use.

Hi Phil,
you can see here http://grandprix.xs4all.nl/ the Time Slots for GPG server. On Friday is booked as GPG8 that was set for GT season in 2011. They are different GPL installation on the same server.

My chat isn't working in IGOR but I'm able to start the server.  I'll probably start the server a little early to make sure it is on the list when everyone joins at 9:00pm (UK).

If I'm not in chat it isn't because I'm being antisocial Wink

Oh dear, a disappointing start for me.

I had done some praccy and was really happy with my setup, though didn't manage a pb in my shortened qual session (getting the little one to sleep).

I had a reasonable start and was being cautious, but it turns out not enough and was caught out by Attilio's speed into the loop.  I braked early as I didn't want to cause an incident but we seem to approach the corner differently, my corner speed being higher I needed to brake where I didn't expect and went off as a result.  Not a good start, gutted.

I was also miffed when my computer froze again just as I went into The Loop. It came back again, as usual, about 5 secs later to reveal my car parked against the fence with 2 wheels missing !!!

I had made my way up to 2nd spot, mostly by the demise of others but it looked a confortable race for me from there. Hristo was way out in front and I was easing away from Andy in 3rd place. I could blame myself if I had relaxed too much, but when the hardware screws you....Huh?!!!!  death

Hard luck Bob, you were really fast when you were practicing the other night.

Sorry about your PC problems Evil.  It didn't happen when someone disconnected did it?  In addition to my core.ini issues I've also found out that 2D text such as Chat and Prib can cause frame rate issues.  My frame rate took a hit each time someone left the server and a "XXXXX has disconnected" chat message appeared.  Blank screen and framerate might be different symptoms for a similar problem.

I've checked my core.ini again and the duplicate entry wasn't actually a duplicate.  It looks like there is supposed to be 2 sections called [ Int Profile Values ], one for Direct3D and another for OpenGL.  I was using OpenGL V2 but what I hadn't done was update the relevant [ Int Profile Values ] section.  When I put this in:

Code:
[ Int Profile Values ]
Value0  = RasterV2:Device:0
value1  = RasterV2:TossBiggestMips:0
value2  = RasterV2:MaxMipSize:0
value3  = RasterV2:MirrorSize:0
value4  = RasterV2:DirectMirrorRendering:1
value5  = RasterV2:DrawMethod:1 ; 0=Basic, 1=ZBuffer, 2=SeparateThread
value6  = RasterV2:ZBufferType:1 ; 0=Basic, 1=Grouping, 2=ExtremeGrouping
value7  = RasterV2:AnisotropicFiltering:8
value8  = RasterV2:TrilinearFiltering:1
value9  = RasterV2:LODBias:0
value10 = RasterV2:32Bit:1
value11 = RasterV2:Width:0
value12 = RasterV2:Height:0
value13 = RasterV2:FogDensity:1000
value14 = RasterV2:VSync:0
The framerate improved (not surprisingly LOL).

I've also gone into pribluda.ini and switched off the displays I don't need by changing the show value from 1 to 0.  The track position board is the most dynamic so I think that one will give the most problems. That helped the frame rate too, for example

Code:
[trackpositionboard]
show = 0

I just had the [playerboard] enabled and that was enough for me to keep a track of the race.  Didn't help me beat Ronnie though.  Well done mate, I tried hard to catch you but you must have upped your pace in the second half of the race.

Shot myself in the foot by logging way, way too much computer time prior to the start(including trying several laps at Belle Isle; dreadful circuit!).  By Lap7, my eyeballs were pretty much cooked and I only have myself to blame.  Constantly wiping away tears with a facial tissue on the straights actually had me smack the barriers on the back straight on lap15 and drop a couple of precious seconds to Al.  Lucky not to have binned it right there and then by skewering myself on the leading edge of the barrier.  When will I ever learn...  STAY OFF THE DAMN 'PUTER TIL RACE TIME!

I was at least very pleased to set a new PB in qualifying with a lap that shaved fully 0.71 off my previous and start P9.  I got a decent getaway and slotted in behind Dave.  I took it easy for the first couple of miles til the engine temp came up.  After that, I pushed a bit to try and close on Al and Dave but with little headway.  I had a little in hand to play yet but with the vision acting up quite badly, I wasn't going to push too hard.  I did notice, of course, that some fell afoul of the Loop and that all promoted me to a lofty P5.  Bad luck, fellas.

She all came undone on Lap40...so close to home...when I bungled my entry into the Loop.  At first, I thought I was going to save it but no, it spun around and I drilled the fence.  Exit one corner.  I tried to carry on as it was so close to the finish but it soon proved hopeless.

Grats to Hristo on a fine win!  Well done to both Andrew and Dave for bringing their roaring Ferrari's home in P2 & P3, respectively.
