Moderator's Report

First race of the season and a full grid. So were we all good and everybody got through the Red Zone cleanly?

Errr... not quite.

I could have penalised the entire field just about but I have chosen to be extremely lenient as this was very difficult for Novices to deal with. The point of penalties is to improve driving.

If people will not or can not improve, they WILL be penalised.

Server replay time: 0

Giovani blows his engine and makes a Pit stop and resets in the pits. He does not take an additional stop and go for resetting, which he should do. You CANNOT take your stop and go before you reset.

To compound the error he drives into the pit THROUGH the pit wall, which was specifically mentioned in the race post.

The pit at Kyalami is very difficult to enter at high speed and not having the wall in place gives a definite advantage.

Unfortunately both of these are penalised by disqualification.

I must apologise for publishing this late. I had forgotten to add the incident before publishing.

Server replay time: 0h01m01s

Fabio gets too close to the back of JohnnyP and taps him. Johnny helps cause this by changing his line under braking having got too close to JonnyO. I cannot stress enough that racing hard into T1 is a recipe for disaster in the mid-field. It was just all too tight and carnage ensues. Al is left nowehere to go and is one of many innocent victims!

Paul V finds anovel way to avoid the jam by spinning on the kerb at Crowthorne, crossing the track and re-joining on the other side! Amazing!

Boggy slows but is biffed by Adam who then rejoins into Billy. Boggy having done the right thing unfortunately then blots his copy book by joining right in front of Bernie.

Bernie is late through after being tagged by Ivan. Ivan then goes on to side swipe another driver and narrowly gets away with an ill-judged rejoin in front of Nigel.

After a cracking start Nigel is a bit too keen to get on the gas out of Crowthorne and inspects Rog's exhaust a bit too closely. Unfortunately for Nigel he is launched skyward by Roberto.

Once Mr Smith starts off again, he does well to avoid Boggy who literally disappears in front of him.

Tony shows everyone how it should be done by slowing and weaving through!

ALL the drivers mentioned could have been penalised - please be more careful at T1. Losing a second on the first lap will not lose you the race but it might mean somebody else's race isn't ruined.

Server replay time: 0h08m30s

Roberto is caught out by Billy having an earlier braking point. It is the responsibility of the driver behind to ensure that they do not hit the man in front. Having track position allows a driver to control the pace and the driver behind MUST ensure that they do not plough into them.

In the spirit of this moderation, the penalty is ameliorated.

I downloaded some setups from a link that was provided here. Simply went through all of them and finaly selected the one I felt most comfortable with. Then tweaked it for braking/gearing/steering. However in the race I think I should have shortened the gearing as 5th felt too long and I only used 6th on that long down hill section after the start finish line.

Two things if you're going to continue using the 65 Honda, out of the secret Hiki Waza manual.  Grin First, don't rev it past 12-12.5 k RPM, it just has no grunt beyond that even though there are a lot of revs remaining. Second, it blows up with ease, I nearly lost the championship last season because of blowing it up so often. For that reason it's very important not to overrev it (both on up and down shifts), especially at the beginning when the oil temperature is still rather low.

I can go on pro.

Me too.
If it's possible, Is not a problem for me to race with pro.
I haven't level, sure, but I like this game, GPL, and I need to race for learning.

I think Jonny must be stay on novice, because he can win.

Hi all
Well finally sorted out internet and got a good stable connection. After reading what Paul said about times I thought something in the midfield could be possible...what a joke!!After making up a couple of places I was cautious at turn 1 when a Ferrari landed from a great height in front of me. Managed to avoid but got punted off from behind. Had a bit of a dice with Tony but after leaders caught us I just fell apart. Don't know why result says "disco"??
Would really appreciate any help with Base Setups and track guides, have used the LORS guides before, very useful. Thanks for the offer Hristo
Congrats to everyone
Oh and  ps managed a full race with no S/Rs

Cheers

I got a decent start holding my position into turn one but between turns 1 and 2 the car in front of me was being really careful and I had to back right off and was duly shunted from behind and saw a flying Ferrari in my mirrors. At turn 2 I went onto the grass all by myself and after recovering I ran as best I could chasing 2 cars directly in front of me for quite a few laps. I eventually got through and tried to reel in Geoff who was only conceding tiny chunks of time so it took some time to catch him. A very polite Geoff let me through and I ran in this position to finish 3rd.

Right then...I seem to be getting several virtual elbows for running in the Novs this season, my aim was to do well this season and then hopefully move into inters next season. I don't have much time to practice so I have no appetite for spending time learning hard tracks with only last place to race for. I don't really want to race in the pros but if there is no room at the Nov inn then I will. Undecided

I've moved my GPL/Waza blog to a new domain so it works again now:

http://gpl.lineage2universe.com

http://gpl.lineage2universe.com/setup-packs/

I'll make some modifications to it and make a new post once I have the base setups, with some additional instructions that should be helpful.

Geoff gave me a setup which helped last season BUT I wouldn't have been ready for it a year ago. Practice Practice and more Practice. Which is a bit of a downer when you have to give up your race spot (Dave C - you owe me a pint!)  Roll Eyes

Sorry for the tardy response - here is your thank you for giving up your spot!  Also thanks to the others who also freed-up spaces.

I had managed to get in at beginning of the event & put a couple of laps in.  Then thought I'd try coming into the pits as remembered there was some comment about the tight entry etc.  But to my surprise,  I saw no pit wall!  Uh-oh!    [I was sure there was one,  because I've certainly hit it in the past!].  So temporarily left the server to find a wall & was then unable to re-join.

I was sitting around, re-trying every so often - just in case a slot magically opened up.  I assumed I had picked up the one vacated by teamie DaveR;  in which case the team would have done better if he'd stayed put!

I was surprised to have been so far forward on the grid & after a couple of corners things were looking pretty good (for me!).  Yes, it's true I make up nearly all places due to misfortune of others.  Then a couple of grass-tracking sessions put me right back;  so long for that 'hey, I think I can still see the leaders' feeling.

From 10th or 12th, was then able to creep up.   The last few laps were fun, was just able to sneak a couple of places.  I'd say lucky to have finished as high as I did.

Geoff also gave me a setup,  but GPL just would not use it.  Luckily, a semi-random Internet download seemed ok;  I even managed to find the right virtual spanner to adjust the steering ratio [that & fuel are about the only things I can manage].

Also,  I notice a couple of posts mentioning the draft.    Can't say that I actually noticed any difference & my fastest lap was in open air.    Is there supposed to be noticeable as per the F2s?  Or maybe it is very very subtle  [or if you typically run optimum laps, maybe then it helps with a tenth or two?]

Anyway,  cheers all.
Dave.

There is generally not much in the way of draft in the 65's Dave, below about 150mph, however over 150 or with extra long straights.....like Spa, Reims or Le Mans.....it becomes quite noticeable.

If you get close enough you can definitely draft down the pit straight at Kyalami but that usually means you go into Crowthorne tight (on the right) and hot which always leaves me deep in the boondocks Sad

If you go in there trying a pass , would have thought the inside is the place to be , you have the corner , just have to make sure any oponant knows your there and hopefully wont turn in on you . conversley if anyone gets up your inside its often very easy to make the undercut , escp. if they go in too hot and run wide on the exit  Smiley

Its one of the greatest corners in GPL  IMO  Wink

Inside is DEFINITELY the place to be but the difficulty is staying there when you go in at 290mph...  Grin
