Season 24 Works Trophy (67) - Fun Race - Belle Island

This fun race will be at Belle Island (Long Version).  We haven't raced here before so the purpose of this race is to test the track and make sure there are no problems with it.  It is a long fast track so it presents a different challenge from the likes of Monaco, Albi and Dijon-Prenois, the shorter tracks on this season's works calendar.  This race is aimed at the works drivers who represent the pinnacle of achievement in UKGPL and as such they deserve a variety of challenges.  Hopefully Belle Island will present them with a demanding, enjoyable and different challenge.  The purpose of this test is to check the track, so it would be best to do this with a full grid.  It is unlikely that all the works drivers will be able to attend, so the race is open to everyone to ensure we have the best chance of a full grid.  If you are not a works driver but would like to try the track, please let the works drivers join the server first and if there is enough room you would be most welcome to join the race.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_GPG
IP address = 77.249.239.123
Race date = 11-03-2013
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Add-on
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = Intermediate
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 12)
Password: see above
Replays Available here
Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : here

The league race will of course be run under PRO rules but in order to facilitate the testing of the track, unlimited resets will be allowed for this race.  There is no need to do a stop and go after a reset.  The idea is to test reliability of the connections so the more people finish and the closer people race the better.

Hmm.  Server kicked everyone off the first time.  Thankfully Fulvio turned up and reset the server.

Started the server a second time.  Did qually OK but whilst waiting for everyone else to finish GPL locked up.  By the time I'd killed it and restarted the server wasn't accepting connections.

Not a resounding success.  Pity I like the track.

Doesn't look good for a league race.  What does everyone else think?

Discussed the test in chat.  Concensus is that we should abandon Belle Island and use Zolder instead.

Sorry for anyone who really liked the track and put some practice in, but if the track is unreliable there is little point in using it.

I'll update the calendar to show Zolder for round 7.

Hopefully we can find a new long track for next season that is stable.  If you know of one, please let me know.

Yeah I got screen freeze at the end of practice. Gutted, really like this track as you know but common sense must prevail. Shame. Thanks for trying to get this running Phil & Fulvio.

Isle of Man ?

I already ran there with another league  and there was no connection issue.

We've done it as a time trial but never as a full race.  Problem is overtaking and the trees and walls.  Any crash debris tends to remain on the track.  Passing at Belle was difficult but there was plenty of grass if someone crashed out.

Senzapatria is also a nice track (for these kind of long tracks).

...Any crash debris tends to remain on block the track completely...

FTFY. Tires become incorporeal when separated from the car.

Sopheve is a track with something for everyone.  I doubt anyone hereabouts has driven it much, but I found it addicting.  Two possible drawbacks - it's fantasy, and '67's usually stick with real tracks.  Also, it's not one I've ever seen online, so testing would be needed.  You'll find it here :  http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=1122

We have used Moulinsart which is longer than some tracks with plenty of room for overtaking.

When we say "long" are we talking Nurby style long? or longish like Solitude?

I like all the tracks suggested so far but before adding to the list I think the point Martin raises needs to be answered. There are a lot of great fantasy tracks but are others prepeared to try them?

I raced online Sopheve many times with VrocF2 club in the past years. Nice and demanding track.

Thanks for the suggestions gents.  I'm sure we'll be able to select one from that lot for Season 25.

When I said long, I meant a fast and flowing 5 or 6 miles rather than a short (< 2 miles) stop/start Karting style track.

Sopheve looks good.
