anyone would think the Capri RS held a huge advantage here with 4 out of the top 5 places taken up by them
Yup. That's why I was in it!
Had to give best to John's Escort in qually but made a better start and was pleased to see those behind fighting it out as it gave me the chance to get clear.
Old Legzy claims that John was holding him up but I think that they were really holding each other up. I looked at the replay and saw that the two of them were side-by-side for half a lap.
I was less worried about my individual prospects once John had spun, as I was able to gradually pull away from Legzy. I though that he might be on harder tyres and would be giving me some agro in the later stages but he had dropped to about 20 seconds behind by then and I didn't give a monkey's what tyres he had on by then!
I remembered to put my headlights on, as per John's guidance for being in the lead, but had to turn them off again as they were producing a strange disco effect on some of the walls and track sections.
Main scarey moment cam with two laps to go. As I approached T2 there were two cars down the escape road and one of them was reversing straight towards me as I entered the braking zone.
As acknowledged at the top, the Capri was the fastest car, in my hands anyway, but it was a bit of a handful in places. I have done plenty of spins like John managed at the last corner during practice.
It was a great showing by SBRC, only Old Legzy spoiling the party. Grats to Stig, John and Dan. I'm sure that I spotted Dan in the top three at one point in the race?
Good recovery from John, as we would expect, and a great drive through from the back row by Stig. Think you may have to risk qually if you want the top step Stig.
Thanks to John for his 2:06.1 TT lap. It was a great help.
