Bernie gets very close to Phillipe but bails out and puts himself on the grass. Better than getting a penalty and allows Phillipe to continue unharmed. A mistake but elegantly handled.

Moderator's Report

Only one incident in the Red Zone although Ronnie spins but he did that all by himself with the help of some grass.

Piero did later cross the pit wall that showed he did not have the pit wall in place but as I forgot to tell drivers to install it I think it would be unfair to exclude him. My mistake. I shall not forget again.

I did however look at his replay and he obtained no real advantage from the lack of pit wall. His stop was not a great example though and he should have given Dean lots more room and a better indication.

Server replay time: 0h01m01s

Piero tries to get up the inside of Art but has left it too late and Art closes the door. Piero should have backed off here. Drivers MUST be patient at T1, Lap 1.

Piero is good enough to make the pass but it could only happen if Art was being generous. Art had the lead and could take the line. Pieros line was tight and he was always going to slide wide. He should have backed off.

  • Piero Mercaldopenalty — Simple Rear End Shunt + 1 place for lap 1 — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

I can understand and have sympathy with how you feel missing a possible pole shot , but it seems every time I visit UKGPL of late everyone and his dog is having a pop at the moderators who are giving up there own free time to run this sim which wouldnt be here to enjoy at all without there valuable assistance .

You can please "some" of the people "some" of the time , you cant please "all" of the people "all" of the time (who said that ? )

Also some of us unfortunately have other commitments , I for one can not always be here 10 mins before qually , in fact I more often than not end up joining halfway through qually and I think thats my loss ,  though I do try my best to be early .

I'm sure there are others here in the same boat as me .

Each and everyone of us has other commitments, Bernie. You cant ask to always have others accomodating for them.

How can crashing the server half way through qually be an habitual policy? First time is ok(ish), second one is irritating. If you need to do it more than that, you are obviously doing something wrong, as all the people who actually showed up on time get regularly buggered. As mentioned above, theres other ways to tackle the problem, in use in other leagues.

Wheather people dont show up early because they rely on the server-crashing practice (as I say), or because they have imperious commitments right in those 10 mins prior to that one and a half hr they will spend playing a videogame (as you say), a reminder on the forums, after the race, won't change a thing. If letting people out is anatema, then, as in both these occasions there were enough entrants for 2 servers, we might just as well run both from the start next time, and let people pop up when they see fit.

The reason of my irritation is this forever-warning policy, which extends a bit on everything in the league; people dont give a toss about warnings, I think we are all experienced enough to know that.

I'm one of the mods biggest fans. I heard a rumour Paul turned down the opportunity to become the new Pope recently to continue as head man at UKGPL, we are indeed fortunate  rockon

He had to make a decision and he did apologise to all concerned. Rather him than me so he has my full support.

But Art does have a point. The crashing of the server (for a second time recently) to accommodate latecomes was extremely annoying for anybody who had turned up on time and/or posted a time which could not be repeated.

Plus a call for more immediate sanctions on people who cannot be arsed to read/follow rules or simply be punctual would get my vote. For example if you turn up and find only one server up and running and its full......better luck next time!

If we potentially have more than 19 people registered in the series, there should always be 2 grids split on 2 servers, regardless of how many people turn up early. It's not possible for everyone to turn up on time, yet it's unfair for those turning up late that they can't enter because you decided we should run 1 server. Should I be punished of not being able to enter the server because I couldn't join early, even though I registered as a full time driver?  Roll Eyes

Whether we run 2 or not should not be based on how many turn up for each specific race. If it happens that we race smaller grids on some occasions, so be it. It's much worse to force people to skip races because you didn't fire up 2 servers. I'm very glad Paul decided to crash the server in order to accommodate the late arrivals, but please, just run 2 servers all the time.

Well, you shouldnt be punished, but if you cant make it on time, then maybe you shouldnt be registered as a full time driver  Roll Eyes

There are oversubscribed series, where potentially you can find yourself left out even if you are a FT, as R1 drivers are only required to leave the server for 5 mins around 21.00 (always wondered if anyone actually does that..), so if you miss the window and theres a full house is your problem, and no one is making a big fuss about it.

Anyway, this is all academic. Anything is good to me, but the idea of crashing the server half way through qually as a habit, as this is a situation is going to present itself again in the second half of the season.

What does on time mean? On time for the race or on time for practice? I was quite on time for the race, obviously. Considering we have the possibility to host 2 grids, why risk and put drivers out of the race before it has even started?

Oversubscribed means when you have 1 server with limited amount of space and people have to fit in. We're not in that position, because we run more than 1 grid if necessary. It's not necessary to announce your participation each time and join in on time, we're not fighting for grid slots here.

Otherwise, I agree with you about crashing the server. These kind of decisions should be made in advance, not to interrupt an event, but at the same time, it was obviously needed in this case. To avoid the necessity of crashing a server and re-host, just run 2 servers all the time and be done with it, simple as that. The same way like we always run Novices and Pros, regardless of how many turn up for each, or the split F2s, so just treat this series as Lights and Heavy all the time.

That sounds good to me. I am obviously not trying to have people left out, I am simply saying this way to tackle the problem cant possibly become the default. Running two servers regardless is the most logical decision in my view too. I hope this is clarified by the next race of this series, otherwise the only option I am left with is to start joining the latecomers, expecting the server to be crashed to let me in if necessary.

2 Servers up, whenever you have a full time, full grid, would seem to be the right choice.

I'm glad we're getting more voices where they're needed.  Our Moderators put in a lot of work, for little reward.  It's good to offer them some guidance, and inspiration, to help sort things sensibly.  Self-inflicted crashes please, and only past the finish line.  Grin

Hey, I am respecting moderator's work, it's not that. It's when moderators take things in their own hand and dictate what should and shouldn't happen without being able to sustain criticism. I can't accept the "if you don't like it, don't participate" attitude, it's just wrong. We all want better environment in the league, so when there are problems, they should be discussed, not ignored. Instead of replying by the way I just mentioned, why not acknowledge issues and work with the drivers to fix them? Considering the mods are also drivers and they became moderators after being just drivers, it's sometimes puzzling why they act like we're just guests here and have no right to object to anything, or to have an influence on what decisions are made concerning the league. There is no league without its members.
