Not much to do in the Red Zone - which makes a change for the Extras...

Bernie gets very close to Phillipe but bails out and puts himself on the grass. Better than getting a penalty and allows Phillipe to continue unharmed. A mistake but elegantly handled.

Moderator's Report

Only one incident in the Red Zone although Ronnie spins but he did that all by himself with the help of some grass.

Piero did later cross the pit wall that showed he did not have the pit wall in place but as I forgot to tell drivers to install it I think it would be unfair to exclude him. My mistake. I shall not forget again.

I did however look at his replay and he obtained no real advantage from the lack of pit wall. His stop was not a great example though and he should have given Dean lots more room and a better indication.

Server replay time: 0h01m01s

Piero tries to get up the inside of Art but has left it too late and Art closes the door. Piero should have backed off here. Drivers MUST be patient at T1, Lap 1.

Piero is good enough to make the pass but it could only happen if Art was being generous. Art had the lead and could take the line. Pieros line was tight and he was always going to slide wide. He should have backed off.

  • Piero Mercaldopenalty — Simple Rear End Shunt + 1 place for lap 1 — 2 places lost (plus 1 for penalty points)

UKGPL Season 24 Extra Trophy (69X)
Race 5 Kyalami

Welcome to the fifth round of the Extra Trophy for 69 Extra chassis. Kyalami. Classic track, just right for the grippy 69X ers. Last race before the Easter break.

One of the original Papy tracks and therefore fairly well known, but not without difficulty. Usually sees some close racing.

The original, sweeping circuit was in use from 1961 until political sanctions eliminated the Grand Prix after the 1985 race. A very quick circuit, it yielded some memorable races. Gilles Villeneuve outfoxed team mate and home driver Jody Scheckter in a wet/dry race in 1979, and Alain Prost raced from the back to win in 1982. By the time the circuit held its last Grand Prix in its original incarnation cars were lapping the track in 1m 02s – 20 seconds faster than in 1967, a lap time in the 1m 02s might prove a little much... even for the Lights!

The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will extend to the whole of the first lap.

Please check the Season 24 pages for details regarding rules and the Extra Trophy pages in particular.

It is very important that drivers are FULLY familiar with the rules relating to Shift-R. ONLY ONE IS ALLOWED and a Shift-R MUST be followed by a Stop-and-Go or the driver will be excluded.

If two servers are required they will be as below but if only one grid is required, we will race on T7.

Yes, Johnny....Pit wall must be in place or risk disqualification.

Pit wall?

If you have installed a GFX update that removes the pitwall here is how to get it back for the race;
1. Rename or remove kyalami.trk and kyalami.3do files from your kyalami folder.
That will give you back a wall you can crash your car into , if you want the old papy Armco GFX back for the wall do this;
2. Rename or remove Armco_s.mip

Thanks JR. Forgot to point that all out.

PLEASE GUYS, TURN UP A BIT EARLIER. There were only eleven of us at 21:00 which makes it pointless running two servers. Then at 21:10 we had 23 drivers.

Sorry I had to crash T7, hope it went off ok later on but I do need you guys to at least be in iGOR by 21:00 so that I know if one or two servers are required. Thanks.

As for the race, awful. Lotus was undriveable. Snap oversteer which I could counter by running at 10 seconds off the pace... not enjoyable at all. Cannot get the hang of these 69X chassis.

Philippe, really, rejoining at near 90degs to the track in Crowthorne? We are not amused....And Queen Victoria didn't actually say that, What she did say was "What a *iss poor joke that was!" but the scribe thought it best to ....alter the wording.

Anyway, weird chassis these......no matter how much rear wing i applied it didn't stop it getting too tailhappy if I delayed power application ie; late corner entry....all it did was slow it down on the straights. Not a fan of Kyalami for these things at the best of times....have to make too many compromises to make the package work.

my apologies, geoff, I tried to get back on track after my overrun.
I had to let you pass before returning.
I'm sorry I ruined your race and your evening...

I don't like Kyalami, it's not easy tu give a setup.

Bravo Dave !

Very fun race with me loosing a couple spots in the beginning due to too much mirrorlooking and had some wheels on grass. I managed to bite myself to a 6 th until some 4 laps to go. Dean and axel have a clinch and axel spins. I run into axel right after he regained control and push him around again. Really sorry Axel I guess I could avoided that but was hotheaded with some chasers just behind me.

Brilliant race- had a great battle with Rainier but could not quite get past. My ferrari was fun once the tyres were hot but under heavy braking for turn one the back end was always trying to beat the front end into the corner. Shame for Jonnyo he was away but disconnected. Great race Rainier- well done on your win.

Well, my race started of just fine: avoided the T1 (seemingly) inevitable, settled into a good rhythm following Flow, building a gap over Cookie behind, and prepared to watch leaders disappear into the distance. Then engine made the unhappy noise coming out of the hairpin on lap 4 Sad. Bah. Find a safe place to pull over, wait for Cookie to pass, shift-r, get going again, head for the pits, enter just a smidgen too hot, and give the armco at the entry a good clout which bounces me over into armco on the other side to give it a good clout, too. Double bah, but at least I still have four wheels attached so let's see what we can recover from my now 12th place.

Stationary Ronnie is easy to get by. Next in sight is Piero who seems to be going slowly, but then accelerates well onto the straight so maybe he just had a bobble. Nope. Come through the bend on the straight and here's Piero BRAKING HEAVILY AND 40 MPH OFF THE PACE WHILE STILL ON THE RACING LINE?!!? He's already missed the pit entry so what the hey is going on and oh, there he goes, right through the armco and into the pits. Hmmm.

Got past Fulvio and Marco without much issue, bit of a fight from Tom but not much, Andreas more of a struggle, looked like he was struggling too, poked my nose in a few times but had to back off to avoid contact but then get clear and start chasing down Cookie for the placing that I had before the engine went south. Unable to make a move on the straight (due to damage from my clumsy pit stop earlier, probably) but gaining ground hand over fist in the twisty bits. Get right up on him, he's defending cleanly, taking nice consistent lines. Bit over ambitious in T1 sees minor contact, only I suffer (a few seconds loss, and my fault, so all's good), gain it back in two laps. Line up for another pass attempt into the hairpin (where he'd been in 3rd gear through and out of previous corner, moving to the right every time, for the seven laps prior), and he's really slow and stays left (watching replay, he'd downshifted and then stayed in 2nd  Sad ). Contact that I could not avoid sees him off to the right.

Passing a very slow Florian with less than 2 laps to go got me an unexpected podium, which I'm happy with in this crowd.

So into the midseason break in 2nd place in standings (3rd corrected). Have good one, cyas next round.

So, Paul, in the future should I turn up in time, or should I start turning up late myself? Result is the same to me, second time in a row on provisional pole, second time in a row the server is crashed. I was on the final straight of a perfectly nailed lap, who knows I might have even made it through turn one from pole, this time.

Some leagues have a system that requires people to confirm their entry the day before the race, when they need multiple servers. They are still running fine, plenty of attendance, people know the rules and abide to it.

I checked the import, 5 people wouldnt have been able to race yesterday night. Personally I think if that had been the case, they wouldnt have left the league in disgust, maybe followed by half of the regulars in sympathy, thus taking the entire UKGPL to an untimely end, just under your time as chief mod. More likey is that they would have turned up earlier next time round. Something they will keep failing to do if all they get is a reminder on the forum, which most people dont even read.
