Moderator's Report

Not much in the Red Zone except for some nutter in a Honda.

Server replay time: 0h01m37s

Fabio gets it all wrong at Moss and is still recovering as Josh comes up behind. Josh steers around but the collision box takes over and Josh finds himself overturned even though he has done no wrong. It was a very tight space and Josh might have been better advised to back off and let Fabio go.

Fabio could have been more helpful in not driving straight back on the line but had lost control and did not steer into the new boy. Unfortunate but that is online racing.

Server replay time: 0h02m17s

Badblood nudges Dave at the second last as he slides wide, so far so bad, but he is then caught out by Dave braking early because of his unusual line. It takes real skill to hit a man twice and then overtake on the grass. Ahem. Could do better BB!

Server replay time: 0h05m19s

Rog rejoins and BB hits him. Rog has to drive onto the line and cannot see or hear anyone after waiting for Fabio to pass.

The rules have this: \"Only practical place to join is onto the racing line but topography prevents rejoining driver from checking if another car is approaching. Rejoining driver pauses to listen for approaching car. Nothing heard so rejoins promptly but a car appears and contact is made.\"

Server replay time: 0h15m57s

Dave is slow through the last corner and takes a wide line. BB nips down the inside and keeps a tight line. There is no contact but a little warp pushes Dave off.

UKGPL Season 24 65 Novices Trophy
Race 7 Mosport

Welcome back to the Novices Trophy for Season 24. This is the seventh round of 10

Over the 'pond' to a Papy original track, so no excuses for not knowing it. Easy to learn, hard to master, Mosport can produce close racing and with the long back straight there are some drafting opportunities. One thing to be aware of is that the flag is not visible for those right at the back of the grid due to the sharp bend. It is unavoidable - but don't jump start, I will be checking!

As always patience is ESSENTIAL. The first part of the lap is twisty and trying to pass before Moss could lead to tears before bedtime and a visit to the stewards! The first lap will be fully moderated within the red zone. The red zone will be the ENTIRE first lap. In particular, be careful into T1 and down the hill to T2 and into the Moss hairpin the first time.

Please check the Season 24 pages for details regarding rules and the Novices Trophy pages in particular.

HANDICAPPING will be applied to any drivers in the top three who are within 20 points of the leader. Shouldn't actually make much difference here.

Johnny P is again limited to the BT7
RogUK loses the mighty Honda and is asked to limit himself to the BT7 or Cooper
Ross Hawkey has the choice of BT7, Cooper or Honda

Qualifying may start before 9pm, if so, Reserve drivers should leave the server when 35 minutes of qualifying remains and only rejoin when 30 minutes of qualifying is left. This is to ensure that Full Time drivers get priority in joining.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Novice races are run under Int Long rules and all incidents in the red zone on Lap 1, at least, will be moderated. For this race, the red zone extends to the whole of Lap 1. There is no limit on the amount of resets but EACH Shift/R MUST be followed by a Stop n Go.

65 Patch: The 2.02 Release of the 65mod can and should be used. You need a working installation of the 65 mod to install the 2.02 Update. All the 65 Mod files can be found here

Hi there,

Sorry, but I'm 99% certain I can't make this event.

Shame, 'cos I like Mosport, and the Honda would have been fun to try too Sad .

I'm pretty certain, I'll be back for Reims though.

Sorry again, and have a good race.

Pity Ross. You may well still be top three once this race is over though so you might still get the mighty whale.

Well, that seemed hard going - there were not enough incidents ahead of me!

I could have sworn my car was driving a bit better after an early knock (& seemed to be suffering some real steering damage) - but apparently no sign of that in the GPLRA mechanical report at all.

I could have also sworn there were more Hondas in that race.  I guess they were mostly BadBlood then!

Was glad when I was able to slip past Billy & leave him to deal with that Paul V fellow for a while.  Although, he was certainly determined out there.

ok, so there were some retirements - but not a single shift-R?    Surely good going indeed!

Cheers lads,  was fun & contained a fair amount of close-up action.    The GPLRA race history graph also seems to show a fairly bunched up field from start to finish.

Dave.

:Hangs head in shame: Bumped Dave at the end of lap 1 and then to make sure I bumped him again. In my defence, I was braking at the time. Later on I made a pass at the same spot but on the inside and off he went - but this time it was warp. I've checked.

Really sorry mate, mistake from me and several places penalty coming up.

Had fun chasing Billy and Bernie and Bernie certainly kept me honest. Caught between chasing Jason and keeping the 'pride of Wigan' at bay.

In the end, felt like it was a good race with some good passes but got ragged at the end.

I can't mod my own incident but I can assure Dave he will get the place back.

Did also smack Rog between the eyes but as he had parked in the middle of the track I am not sure I'll get a penalty for that one!

Close racing though and hats off to Tony who was very gentlemanly although I slightly closed my eyes when passing him at Moss!

Welcome to Josh as well. Hope you enjoyed it. Finally, big congrats to JP. Class of the field. Need to find a more effective handicap. Roll on Round 8.

PS. Missed you Nige, Ross and Al!

Been struggling with consistency for a bit so glad to get a reasonably clear run.
Was in 3rd place at one point, Fabio passed me on the pit straight (on his way to a well deserved 2nd) & I had my one stupid spin. After that I dropped three places by missing the apex to the last turn on three different occasions. Badblood, then Dave C then Paul V. Seemed to be a very competitive field tonight. I spend probably 90% of the race with other cars in close attendance so some good racing - that's what GPL is all about.

Had a good run here, I had a downloaded setup that I was going to use but had a last minute change of mind and used my own. I followed Rog for a few laps and got up the inside at the end of the straight, I didn't know where he was so stayed wide for the next left but he wasn't there. Tony was really kind when I passed him- thanks Tony. I had an uneventful race watching the gap behind but trying for some quick laps- the Bt7 handling really nice. Good racing all, and some nice points for the mooses! Sorry I can't make the next race so good luck to everyone.

That was a very enjoyable race and I feel a podium was a good result, but it wasnt without problems - my foot pedal restraining bracket came looseand my unsecured pedals were moving around the floor waaay too much, to the point where the bracket was impeding the operation of the throttle pedal.
Well done to JP and Fabio, great pace there lads, and well done to everyone else for seeming to keep it clean.. Mosport is never an easy track for close action so to have seen so little wreckage is a real result for everyone!
And yes Badblood, the mods are gonna hurt you bad for your errant behaviour Cheesy

A perfect GPL evening:

I connected to IgOR at 21.10 but there wasn't any novices practice server.
No way to connect to the UKGPL forum to know race location and pw
Luckily Jason was there and gave me pw and told me that we would have raced in Mosport
Oh, I didn't like such track... but anyway I would have probably missed the race, because of taxi service for my daughter
Then I was able to practiced few laps before going out
I was back when only 1'20" before the end of the qualify period
Still panting I wore my race dress and entered the car.
Some little hesitation at the green flag and on the first hairpin and then I found a great pace!!
It seemed I was flying, really!!

These races makes me love GPL!!!

WD to the winner, Jason and everybody raced!

See you soon on track
Cheers
