Moderator's Report

Not too much in the Red Zone. Just one reported incident.

Server replay time: 0h01m05s

Andreas bangs wheels with Fabio as he tries to hustle past but only Andreas is affected

Server replay time: 0h01m16s

Tintin has made a very good start but misjudges his closing speed to Billy. He tries to avoid him but clips Mr Nobrakes rear end spinning him round. Badblood and James Andrew don't really have anywhere to go as Billy spins back on to the track.

Rules have this: "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended."

  • tintin (t tintin)penalty — Simple Rear End Shunt + 1 place for lap 1 — 2 places lost

UKGPL Season 24 Graduates Trophy for Privateers
Race 8 Dijon-Prenois

For Round 8 we return to France, and this time to Dijon-Prenois. I can do no better than steal Phil's and Rainier's introduction to the circuit. The plans were (quite appropriately) drawn up in 1967 but it took over 4 years to build and the first race wasn't held until 1972.  The first Formula 1 race was in 1974 but the circuit was a little too short and the race was marred by congestion as the leaders tried to lap the backmarkers.  So the circuit was revised to include a new section incorporating the Parabolique.  It is this revised circuit that we will be racing on today.  The circuit is probably best known as the location for one of the most exciting battles for second place ever seen in Formula 1.  The battle between Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari) and René Arnoux (Renault) was played out over the last 5 laps with Villeneuve taking the honours by less than half a second.  The race was won by Arnoux's team mate Jean-Pierre Jabouille.  It was the first victory for Renault and the first victory for a turbocharged car.

We will run Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The track can be downloaded from the link in the race list above.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the full lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Noticed that I'm up to four penalty points in this series. Sad

Penalty page says I'm to take an extra S&G. Is the timing of that stop up to me?

From the rapid response team - it may be during the 1st 3 laps Dean - last lap would be a big advantage.  Unless an expert steps forth or 5th, this would seem to be standard protocol.

First of all - I'm not an official/spokesperson for the rulebook.

When the concept of penalty points came about,  I'm sure it was clearly stated that a personal message would be sent to perps with details of the penalty ahead of the race  (& presumably in good time,  not as the pitlane opens for practice/qually session!).

If you have not received such notification,  then maybe a stop is not required this time out.

Or,  feel free to stop/not stop as you wish.  What's the worst thing that could happen?  Smiley

Cheers,
Dave.

Well, I enjoyed that one although it was a far from straightforward race for me.
I was surprised to get the white whale that far up the grid and made the most of my half decent start to get into a decent 5th position.
Martin Hunt was just ahead and showing similar pace to me so I though we were going to have some fun but my front left tyre was showing signs of stress through the fast rights and so I chose to drop back and drive for a finish.....
...... and half way through the race started to do the maths and realized I would be about a gallon short of fuel!   Fustratingly, a few laps from the finish Martin was almost within my grasp as he seemed to be struggling for grip from his own overheated tyres but I had no fuel left to attack with! On the final lap the car was spluttering and Dave Curtis said thank you very much as he swept by to take 5th from me but I feared worse was to come - exiting the final corner there was silence and I just prayed there was enough momentum to get me over the line for my points...... there was, but only just!
So there you go, a race of looking after tyres, conserving fuel and general trying to be as smooth as possible on this wonderful sweeping piece of French tarmac!
Loved it Smiley

That was quite a work out;  time for a fresh shirt & a nice cooling pint...!

I don't know how that 5th place on the grid came about;  maybe that last minute switch to Watkins Glen setup did the trick (couldn't seem to get on with Rouen from last season...)

There again,  maybe it was just a case of tip-toeing a bit more.

Unlucky at the end there for the spluttering Honda.  I know something was up when I was able to see you.

Cheers,
Dave.

Knew I was slow but I was hoping to be steady. I was quite pleased with 1:29.x but Lap 1 a spinning red thing baulked me and the Engine blew. Took my stop and went to the pits and biffed some tyres because I hadn't checked out the entrance - d'oh. Must have damaged the car because three slow laps later - BANG! End of race. Very disappointing.

Hope you enjoyed it.

A shortage of funds necessitated a drive in the Honda so I wasn't expecting any great success but the race settled down nicely with gradual progress due mainly to others' misfortunes. Until that is the sound on my PC suddenly disappeared at the half way point and I spent I a good few moments on the grass. Just as mysteriously the sound reappeared and I was able to continue fortunately with no harm to myself or others though I lost a few places. I've had screen blackouts with the sound continuing in the past but not the reverse so I'm baffled as to what might have caused it.

Let's not  start that debate again. I'm sure we are all agreed that there are a number of 'Works drivers in disguise' in this division. I'm equally sure that the Mods will ensure that there are several promotions at the end of the season. Apart from this being necessary to achieve the equality within the divisions for which you have put forward compelling arguments, it will also be necessary to create the vacancies for any new recruits who might be interested in joining.

Dijon is a track in need of a good balance.  During practice, I noticed tyre temps seemed to be camber critical, and my setup struggled on it's 3rd and 7th corner, as these had been set the wrong way.  And with over 300 corners, things could quickly go awry.

A race long battle with oriental Jason kept things interesting, as we stayed in visual contact throughout, but for the finishing fumes of my pursuer.  So I claim 'best of the rest' honours, after a close run thing with a fuming Blito.  Fun track - fun race. Cheesy
