Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
Congratulations to Skymole on a maiden win in the prestigious Works Trophy, the pinnacle of racing in UKGPL. He was pushed all the way by Bob Whitwell, who despite putting in the fastest lap, made too many small errors to trouble Skymole. Andrew Livingstone grabbed the final podium place after an eventful drive through the field.

Server replay time: 0h01m35s

Lap 1 - Sunset Bend - Doni Yourth and Phil Thornton
Doni is much faster than Phil into Sunset and tries to go for the inside line as Phil is moving towards the apex. Contact is made and both cars spin off. Phil is able to continue but Doni loses a wheel on the armco and is out of the race.

Although much slower, Phil was entitled to take the racing line as Doni was still five car lengths behind at turn in. Doni wasn't actually attempting a pass , he was simply caught out by the difference in speed and whilst he tried to slow down he couldn't avoid clipping Phil's offside rear wheel.

Server replay time: 0h04m44s

Lap 3 - Esses - Axel Cookie, Arf Arf Arf and Evil Clive
Cookie is pushing hard and spins on the exit of the Esses. Arf tries to take avoiding action but has nowhere to go and contact is made. Both cars collide with the armco and suffer terminal damage. Evil is next along and he can't avoid the carnage either. He also looses a wheel and is out of the race.

No driver was to blame here. Neither Arf of Evil were driving too close to the car in front and Axel can't be blamed for a simple spin.

Server replay time: 0h44m35s

Lap 32 - Esses - Fulvio Policardi and David Rainier
Fulvio gets an excellent drive out of Clubhouse Bend and manages to get alongside David in the braking zone for the Esses. Fulvio has over 50% overlap at turn-in and has effectively won the corner. David tries to maintain the racing line but warp contact is made with Fulvio's offside rear wheel and David is punted off onto the grass.

Fulvio pulled off a perfectly fair overtake, he had plenty of overlap at turn-in and didn't run wide. In fact he managed to hit the apex on the first part of the Esses and maintain the perfect racing line for the second part.

David was probably caught out by Fulvio's move and was unlucky to experience some warp contact.

Season 25 Works Trophy, Round 1, Kyalami

Welcome to the premier division of the premier class in UKGPL for the start of our twenty fifth season.

South Africa, Kyalami. Classic track, long time home of formula 1 in the Southern hemisphere.

The original, sweeping circuit was in use from 1961 until political sanctions eliminated the Grand Prix after the 1985 race. A very quick circuit, it yielded some memorable races. Gilles Villeneuve outfoxed team mate and home driver Jody Scheckter in a wet/dry race in 1979, and Alain Prost raced from the back to win in 1982. By the time the circuit held its last Grand Prix in its original incarnation cars were lapping the track in 1m 02s – 20 seconds faster than in 1967, a lap time in the 1m 02s might not quite be obtainable.

As always, we will run Pro Damage, so resets are not allowed.

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the full lap. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Too close behind Cookie when he lost it and came across the track and took my wheel off. It was a racing incident, but you were out of control, mate! So many corners you went round you nearly lost it, and you were braking hard in the middle of corners. I was lucky not to rear end you 2 or 3 times......

Nearing my Brab PB got me 3rd in qual, happy with that, race starts nice and clean yay, bit of an oops middle of lap 1 lost me a handful of spots but got some of them back, start chasing down an Eagle that's found his way up, track him down just apply pressure get big in his mirrors sometimes maybe he'll outbrake himself or try to carry too much speed through an apex or over-rev that fragile yet fast Eagle no worries for me there this brab is solid as a rock and coming out of Barbeque lap 10 or so I hear a "boom" and see a crankshaft go flying and think "ha now I got you" and looking for where he'll pull over so I can sweep by and continue my run to the podium in my very first Works race but then "gee, my engine's awful quiet of a sudden" and the slow dawning realization that it was MY engine that shat it's guts o'er the countryside fufufufufufufufufuf.........  :'(

Dave R. I just watched replay and saw our contact at esses at last but one lap. In the race I didn't feel anything, in fact in my replay there isn't contact, but we were close enough to risk a warp touch. Sorry.
I was punished last lap going wide T1 gifting third to Andy.
Great battles all around. Smiley

But you know how to drive them, you just don't know how to do that without ShiftR. Works is the only place here, where you can gain that experience, so man up and stop complaining Wink

As for my race.

I've had great fun battling with Ronnie, Andy and Fulvio, but my tires were overheating so quickly that I just wasn't able to keep up with them. At least I've learned that Honda is one big stinky c$%p Cheesy

I arrived late with only 12mins of quali left, so I opted for a nice safe Brab race setup and applied a few tweaks to gears etc.

Race started well even from 12th on grid?? and I picked up a place here and there as cars ran wide or missed braking points.

I was closing on an ex Waza mobile and a Brabham and was going to be set nicely for a tow on the straight ..I thought,  until the pair of them got all tangled in the Esses. Then I thought I might just tighten my line and squeeze through on the inside, but they had other ideas and between them removed a couple of my wheels!!! which I thought was a little underhand and only the first race of the season too!!!!

Ah well!! I was hot a sweaty anyway, so another 40mins of Kyalami would have got very uncomfortable, so I went for a shower instead!!

Grats to Sky, Baab and Andy for the podium places.

Hello Axel

I hope you will continue with the Works.

I think you are always overdriving, pushing your limits above 110%-120%... just try to do a full race at 100% and you will get nice final results.

That's the race. But I think you took big risks for both of us, overtaking me in a place where it is quite impossible to overtake without accident.
I was really disappointed to lose 2 positions at only 2 laps before end of race ...but again, that's racing !

Grats to Sky , Baab and Andy.

Blown engine/clutch ended my race in the BRM but had some good racing with Pod, Andy and Dave, thanks guys.

Hung around to watch a bit of the racing and was actually watching Andy, Fulvio and Dave as they scrapped. From my view Dave, and I am not a mod I hasten to add, you seemed a little middle of the road and gave Fulvio less room than he deserved as you knew he was there. Still it was harsh that you lost two places with Andy close by as well.

See you all at Adelaide.

I was not expecting a try to overtake at this place (at the start of the Esses), I thought it will happen on the long pits straight.
