Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h00m51s

King Hiro takes a cautious approach into St Devote. Cookie is probably caught off guard by KH's braking point & runs into the back of KH. A rear end shunt penalty is 2 places + 1 for first lap - but will reduce by 1 in mitigation
What happens next was complete GPL carnage & a direct follow up from the original contact.

THIS POST IS FOR THE LIGHT & HEAVY RACES

To celebrate the birth of Prince George nowhere more fitting for a race than somewhere posh & you can’t get posher than Monaco. It’s a Papyrus original & well known if not well liked by the regular drivers. It’s a tough street circuit, lots of 1st gear corners & precious few passing places, although it does seem a little easier in the F2 car than some other mods. Whilst the turn out at Round 1 was on the low side Monaco isn’t the best place for a mixed ability grid so the plan is to run separate servers for the Heavy (T7) and the Lights (UKGPL8).

To handicap restrictions apply to this round - free choice of car for everyone.

The Driver list is shown below & the Championship Table can be found here F2 Trophy .
A maximum of one reset is allowed per race & must be followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the Reset. If you Reset on the last lap a 15 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation in the red zone which will be to the exit of Mieabeau. The Moderator may chose to investigate any other incident, in addition to reported incidents & red zone incidents.

Please note that for UKGPL has introduced a system of penalties within each series for drivers accumulating yellow cards – see here
Penalty Points. Drivers incurring these penalties will receive a PM advising when a penalty has been applied & what race it should served.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL8 & T7 –
Race date = Sunday 28-07-2013
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Monaco
Race length = 26 Laps
Variant = 1967 Formula 2
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = minimum of 30 minutes

I thought getting the disco just before the start of the race was bad enough,  just about managed to reconnect (eventually!) with what must have been seconds to go before the off.

Should have run 2 grids;  at least we may have got a decent race.  Maybe those lights are downright dangerous!

A least I can re-watch the extended firecracker display on the way to L1T1.
Hardly worth putting my racing socks/circuit shirt on tonight.

Congratulations to Billy for stopping in time; although unlucky for being dragged into the melee.

Phew, I am exhausted. Cracking race though, one of my better efforts although that still wasn't quite enough thanks to Clive  Wink.

Thought I managed Pole but Clive snatched it from me in the dying minutes of the session. That cemented the final result in hindsight, as Clive's pace on full tanks was superb and I lost about 6 seconds to him in roughly 5 laps. Ronnie was snapping at my heels in the early laps but with Monaco being Monaco, I managed to hold onto second. It was during the latter half of the race, that I slowly managed to claw in Clive's lead and eventually managed to get right behind him with a few laps to go. Sadly my bid for the lead was short-lived, and the finish came sooner than I'd have liked.

Congrats to Clive for a superb drive. I drove out of my skin this race and simply couldn't beat you. And congrats are in order for everyone that managed to finish this race. No mean feat  Smiley.

The fireworks at Saite Dévote on lap one were unavoidable.  I saw something happening so I braked but it was pointless.  I didn't hit anyone but cars were warping all over the place and landing on me.  There was nothing I could do but wait until it all stopped and do a shift R.  Ended up second to last (only Billy was behind me) and then had to do a S&G for my trouble.  After that I had quite a decent race; my pace wasn't too bad but I was never going to catch anybody up, I was just too far behind.

Sorry to K Hiro for the tap at Mirabeau on lap 9.  I was trying my best to stay with you and I just over did it on the brakes.

Fulvio - I now understand what you meant in iGor and I don't agree (of course!!)..... If I hadn't been held up and then span avoiding Sky taking a tight turn you'd never have got near me in the first place  Smiley It was very confusing with the front two bearing down on us with 2/3 laps to go. I wasn't actually sure they were the leaders, and if so how many. Really confusing working out what to do there......didn't realise when talking in iGor that you had passed me at the end, although that was probably my last corner spin? It was good fun racing though.....

Right, now what will probably be the controversial bit, and somthing I seem to care about more than others. Before anyone replies to this please bear in mind that I am not breaking the rules by having chat enabled. The following are guilty of breaking the rules because they posted messages whilst people were driving on track.

1. Cookie. It may be that warp caused the carnage at the start of the race, but that gets dealt with after the race, there is no need to tell us whilst we are trying to weave through the maze of shattered cars.

2. Natan. He posted the first 'WD' in qually after the timer had gone to zero, BUT NOT BEFORE THE SESSION WAS 'COMPLETE' and people, including me, were still trying to post a time. You directly affected my concentration and ruined my last timed lap. In this instance any improvement that I might have made (which wasn't likely tbh) would have only put me closer to the carnage, so didn't affect my race. It is still really bad manners.

3. Fulvio.. in qually my brakes locked up and I span. Sam, Evil and another were bearing down on me so I stayed still until they got past me, and then I executed a spin turn to get myself facing the right direction. Sadly I didn't get turned all the way round but I could not see anything in my mirrors because of the angle. I couldn't hear anyone, so I did a small reverse...and took someone out. I got bounced off the wall and came back into Fulvio, who then posted a 'Come On' message. I appreciate your frustration, but I don't know what else I could have done. You however, could and should have not posted a message during the session......

Its not rocket science gents. Please keep schtum until any and every session is COMPLETE. In qually, don't look at the timer going to 0....

Shame on me!

Yes it was frustrating, not a half lap and I had 3 incidents...

Sorry to Tom, Sky and Dean, I don't understand this myself!

Before I forget to mention it, did we have a loose grid set for this race?  If we did I suggest we spread it out a bit more next time, that would probably have helped prevent the lap 1 fireworks!

I was hammered from behind into t1, but I braked somewhat earlier than needed although I braked very lightly. I had  natan coming across in front of me and then he warped massively on my comp and that took much of my attention and I was not sure the first car would go healthy through. I had a bad line as well and was t used to be on right side of the  track there. All these factors made me decide to slow off early and then also avoid hitting whoever might be on my left. I had to lift for Natan so it was likely someone was there.
On lap 2 I did a stop n go and I just managed to get out of the way from  Curtis who passed me but then lost control. It looked like he would stay right side of track but I was wrong. Sorry for the incident  Curtis I should have waited since my rejoin after stop and go made you go wide.  Rest of the race was a bit uninspiring but I had some fun with Phil and Fulvio. at a weak moment I thought Fulvio was very close and I braked to late in fear of being tapped and he passed. I should have braked normal I was most likely paranoid.
nps with the tap Phil you waited like a gentleman and I didn t loose much.

I should have known that Samb would be "on the pace" now that he is back racing with us.  Wink maybe I hoped he would take a little longer to warm up??!!

I knew that I could hustle any of the F2's around Monaco at a respectable pace and would normally have taken my favourite Lola BMW. But in offline practice I found that BMW powerplant just does not have the low down torque for pulling out of the slow corners and no matter how low I made 1st gear I was losing time out of every hairpin against the FVA powered cars.
I picked the Brab at random and tweaked the ratios and diff just before the race and joined with about 30 mins of qually left and quite a full server. Space for a flying lap was going to be difficult to find around here!!

I went out on race fuel to get a few settling in laps and quickly found the space to set a quick lap...maybe pole?? That lasted a few mins until Samb blitzed around and relegated me to 2nd. I would normally be quite happy with 2nd spot in any race, but at Monaco getting past a driver as quick and capable as Samb is almost impossible, so I went into "qualimode" and dumped a load of fuel to try and find .03 secs and regain prime position.
Ironically the harder I tried on empty tanks the slower I got  Undecided and I had resigned myself to 2nd spot and having to hope for an opening to pass Samb in the race. So with 3 mins left I reverted to race fuel and went out again just to remind myself how it went on cold tyres and heavy fuel. I was as surprised as anyone to pip Samb on my last lap as my sector 1 time was 0.4 down and I had given up all hope of pole.
From the start I pushed as hard as I could to try and build a safety net and found I was able to ease away into free air.

I was happy cruise the middle part of the race and monitor the gap back to Samb. But then I began to lap a few cars and although I have no criticism of anyone who had to allow me pass, each episode lost me a few tenths... and Samb was speeding up!!!

With about 8 laps to go I could see Samb exiting corners behind where before there was just empty track. Strangely my Brab just would not go as fast on empty tanks as it would on full race fuel and it was going to be close!! Luckily Monaco favours the car in front as passing is VERY difficult and I was able to hold 1st place as we crossed the line. I'm not absolutely sure if I could have held Samb off forever (but it would have been interesting trying  Roll Eyes) and I was glad that the flag dropped when it did.

A great race and a close finish. Grats to all those who survived and commiserations to those who got involved in a crash fest at Saint Devote.. all too frequent at Monaco I'm afraid which is why getting to the front of the grid is a distinct advantage shifty

First of all I have to apologize for my comment during qualy, double sorry cause I am one of them than often complain about chat. Anyway my comment was pointed to all those crash I saw ahead of me during my first laps of qually, not only that Arf. So come on guys we were to race there not to play roulette at casino  Grin

Second thing, IMHO the fireworks soon after the start were increased by the setting of the server. A more loose grid maybe would have helped to go through T1 in a more safe way, but with the full pack visible to all there were many cars a bit unstable so close each other and a crash was easy to come. Plus the server got crazy trying to manage all those cars trying to reset and going on crashing. I had an hard time trying to restart myself after my reset. Last but not least the back of the pack had all the time to avoid the carnage, but instead to wait, tried to pass anyway and met the fireworks party  Grin

Arf I saw the replay when you had to avoid Sky at Tabac and spun, but if you confront our lap times you can see I was faster, so your first sentence isn't just right  Grin
After your spin, I was on Sky tail, but he had an half spin at T1 so I had to swerve on the outside rail to avoid him and you passed both: 1-1  Grin
I had Pribluda on so I knew that the leaders were coming, plus there were a lot of blue flags so when Clive was on my tail at Massenet I moved over at Casino. When you moved over for the leaders at the s/f straight I was on your tail, but didn't want to gain on you and followed you to St.Devote hoping to put some pressure on you. I hope you appreciate that. Smiley Unexpectedly it happened last turn of last lap when you lost it on braking so I zipped by to the finish Grin
Great battle and great fun!

This is the loose grid I have on the server, do you have a wider version?
