Moderator's Report

Generally clean at a tough track. Well done.

Server replay time: 0h00m58s

Nigel makes a rocket start but as he slows for Tarzen first time round he is forced to the inside. Phil takes a cautious line and is booted off track. Nigel would probably have made the corner but it was risky as the gap was always going to narrow. He could and should have been more cautious at the start although he nearly gets away with it.

Phillipe is unlucky.

Rules have this: The overtaking car had NOT achieved a 50% or greater overlap at the point of turn-in. There was no loss of control by either driver. Penalty for overtaking driver.

The penalty is reduced given how marginal the touch was.

Drivers should remember that even 'brushes' are not well modelled in GPL and the results can be catstrophic.

Season 25 Privateers Trophy, Round 3, Zandvoort

Welcome to the third round of the Privateers Trophy.  After a couple of rounds in the southern hemisphere, this round marks the start of the European season with a visit to Zandvoort in the Netherlands.

The circuit was inaugurated on August 7, 1948 and has been through several changes but unlike many of the popular 1960s tracks it has continued to be used for top flight racing and is in regular use today but not for Formula 1.  The last Formula 1 race a Zandvoort was held in 1985 and was won by Niki Lauda ahead of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.  The 1967 Formula 1 Grand Prix saw the debut of the Ford Cosworth DFV engine, in Jim Clark and Graham Hill's Lotuses.  Jim Clark went on to win the race and post the fastest lap after Graham Hill retired with engine problems after starting the race from pole position.

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

A maximum of one reset is allowed per race & must be followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the Reset. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to Hondenvlak. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I will participate as last year, I will miss my tests, and like that, I'm not gonna get out of the track, as always.
thank you very much the driver who has deliberately ruined my race
here becomes painful.
I never managed to get the first corner when I was a good test.
go to spa, I will go last on the grid
and congratulations to the podium and finishers...

Bad luck Phillipe. This was the archetypal race of attrition. Made a decent start and then made a small mistake but the sucky sand meant I was a long way last. Caught Pierre and Nigel and then they made their own mistakes. Then I passed James who was taking the high road - he was quicker (wern't you all!) so he passed soon but then I kept it on the tarmac to get the place back and then there was Michael... oops. Span in sympathy and lost all my hard gained places - somehow Billy was just behind (don't know how he got behind...) and it was interesting - four way race and then I rolled it under pressure from Mr Nobrakes. Thought "have to be perfect now.." and span. Lost 9th to Pierre and had a nice fight getting it back. Might have bumped Pierre going past, hope not. Sorry if I did mate. James kept me interested but that is how it finished. Fun race but I am now drenched in sweat and VERY tired.

Same here Paul, made some mistakes with burning eyes not seeing the brakepoints Shocked
But at least I succeeded with a big towel drying myself on the straight...

Nice fight at the final laps with Dave who caught me doing donuts in T1.

Cookie - I feel honoured that you called that a fight! Smiley

You'd been well up the road,  so had clearly either stuffed it up real bad or been involved in some other incident - as I found myself leading for a couple of laps!   But I tried not to think too much on that at the time.  You were clearly going to be back up with me again;  but was just a matter of when.   In the end,  I think I brought that forward a lap or 2 by forgetting to stay on the track;  but you were reeling me in.

The only hope was to try to stay as close to that disappearing dot,  in case something happened.   In the end,  was lucky as I span on the last corner & the 3rd place chappie was closing fast.  I was hoping the engine would not pop on that last stretch...

Had a couple of other minor battles  (in my book, that's being on the same corner as someone else).   Managed to not screw up T1 many times;  so that is probably where the provisional good finish came from.

Cheers all;  'standard' GPL is fun.  Who needs all these fancy-schmancy mods anyway?!  (so, err - maybe see some of you tomorrow/Friday/next Sunday then?!)

Dave.

I was not expecting a spectacular result, amongst the dunes of Zandvoort.  It's quite obvious at this track, the cars are always slower than the driver.  It seemed wise to grab a sensible setup, and hope to survive.

During practice, I exited the pits, to find a car blocking my path.  It was Pierre, crawling onto the track at less than 30kph.  I remember someone doing this at Brands, where you are forced 'rapidly' into the racing line.  At Zandy, I was forced into it.  Pit exit people, please show some sense!  You are supposed to merge, and not mash into the traffic. Cool

I was not pleased, or surprised with 9th on the grid.  I was not happy to see Nigel fly into the dunes, after a major warp while wheel to wheel.  I was in a hurry at the time, as we'd 2 Coopers closing in from behind,  Looked like your Brabham was a handful!  I was not pleased . . . but I was pleased to discover I'd arrived at 3rd place.  The car was performing to perfection.

There was no shortage of maneuvering, up and down the field.  Looks like some great dicing for many.  I had a late charge from Hendy to contend with, while the leaders were yo-yoing just out of reach.  Have you had a yoing lately?  My race was mostly yoing free, and netted me a very pleasing 3rd place. Cheesy

It remains very difficult to race you wheel to wheel Martin as you still have that cloaking device attached to your car... it can be quite alarming but I see that you are not the 12th incarnation of Doctor Who after all!

Too many mistakes to get a serious finished. In T1 there was a coming together with Hendy. I think it was a case of us taking different lines into the corner without knowing the other was there. The big killer was a trip to the dunes where I got totally disorientated & took me the best part of a minute to find the track again. The Brabham did a remarkably good impression of a Landrover at this point.
On the plus side I had lots of racing. Really difficult to pass at Zandvoort & I’m feeling slightly guilty that Paul, Michael & all ended spinning off when I was behind them. Also, my internet connection held out to the finish.
PS. Did Nigel sneak a catapult onto the starting grid? Super fast start.

Fun race but I am now drenched in sweat and VERY tired.

What he said. By far the most fun and interesting [read "competitive"] race I've taken part in for a few years.

Normally I end up circulating on my own and only seeing the leaders pass me. This time, for the first half of the race at least, I was on the tarmac and putting in consistent and decent laps. Chasing people down, fending people off, impressing (and enjoying) myself!

Then I went spinning and off-road with increasing frequency, losing lots of places on the way. Finally I did enough damage to need a Shift-R and a S'N'G so just tried to finish where I was.

This race has re-ignited my love for this game, not to say restored some faith in my ability!
