Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
An amazing race of attrition won by David Rainier after starting from last place on the grid. David drove a controlled race to be the only competitor to complete the distance on this tricky circuit. Several drivers thought they had the race in the bag until silly mistakes saw them lodged in the sticky hay bales. Eventually second place was claimed by Dean Logan who threw away a lead of over a lap just four laps from the finish. The final podium place was won by Phil Thornton who also threw away a more modest lead of forty four seconds but again only four laps from the finish. The moral of this race has to be the classic line, "To finish first, first you have to finish".

Server replay time: 0h01m06s

Lap 1 - Viale Pier Andrea Mattioli - Ivan Djjodjjo and Phil Thornton
Ivan gets a bit of wheel spin on cold tyres and mounts the inside kerb damaging both offside wheels. Phil is following and slows down but he just clips Ivan's car as it slides sideways down the track. Despite taking to the air, Phil's car is undamaged but Ivan's car slews across the road to come to rest against the hay bales minus a couple of wheels.

Phil was able to slow down enough to avoid heavy contact with Ivan whilst not risking being rear ended by braking too hard. Neither driver did anything wrong and it was fortunate that this incident didn't precipitate a major pile up. Good driving from the rest of the field.

Server replay time: 0h01m58s

Lap 1 - Viale Pier Andrea Mattioli - Fulvio Policardi and Andrew Livingston
The yellow flag is flying and Andrew slows down early as a precaution. Fulvio clips the kerb which unsettles the car and he can't apply the brakes quickly enough to avoid rear ending Andrew. Fulvio's car suffered terminal engine damage but Andrew continued apparently unaffected.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h12m44s

Lap 7 - Finish Line - Natan Veksler, Podkrecony Ziutek and Andrew Livingstone
Natan clips a kerb and slews across the road into a tree. He bounces back into the path of Podkrecony and then into Andrew. All three cars are out of the race.

Season 25 Works Trophy, Round 5, Valentino

Welcome to the fifth round in the Works Trophy.  We continue the European leg with a visit to the Valentino circuit around the streets of Turin in Italy.

Parco del Valentino (also known as Valentino Park) is a popular public park in Turin, Italy. It is located along the west bank of the Po river.  Several races were held here between 1935 and 1954, it is the 1954 layout that we will be using for this race.  This is a very challenging circuit with virtually no run-off areas, plenty of undulations and blind corners.  Discretion is the better part of valour for this track.

As always, we will run Pro Damage, so resets are not allowed.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_GPG
IP address = 62.195.2.111
Race date = 22-09-2013
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Parco del Valentino Torino 1955
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 32)

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to Viale Marinai d’Italia. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sorry, fellas, but on-going computer problems will keep me out of the running for a couple more weeks at least.  Sad

Having run a couple of AI races on this one, I cannot help but wonder what we've let ourselves in for...

Just curious, but has the invisible wall issue been sorted out?  I think that was the cause of H's retirement in the linked race.

Monacoesque in propensity for ending in tears...only more so!  I'll be choosing a cheap chassis.

See you all later,

No I don't believe it has; so please be careful.  In fact I don't know which corner it was that caused the problem.  What I do know is that it was caused by taking too much kerb on the inside.  So the advice is: don't try and take too much kerb, stay on the tarmac.

Think I already did - missed my braking point into that stupid last chicane on lap 2.

Likewise, my race to lose after Ray retired. So guess what I did? Lost the back end of the car half way through and a wheel broke off. Deeply annoyed with myself. Congrats to whoever finishes the race.

I think everyone did apart from David Rainier who drove from last to first to take the win.  Grats David.

I was in second place with 4 laps to go when Dean lapped me and promptly drove into the haybales at the sharp right hander.  I was watching Prib to see if he was going to get going again.  His car was dropping further and further back so I knew he was well and truly stuck.  I was feeling quite smug, lost concentration and on the very next corner drove off the track and got stuck in the haybales!!!!  What an idiot  Roll Eyes

I do like the track.  It is quite a challenge but it is possible to overtake.

...Congrats to whoever finishes the race.

That'd be (only) our winner: Dave!  laugh

I got stuck in haybales (outbraked myself again) with 4 to go, with a lead of more than a lap in hand. D'oh d'oh d'oh...

This is too silly.

I rip off my wheel all by myself at T1/L1.
One finisher.

Rainier, you are The Alien.

This world, including gpl, is officialy getting silly.
I hope i can regain some semblance of belief in gpl and the rest of this world by Dessau T1/L1.
