Moderator's Report

Complaint raised for consistently driving beyond the track limits. Having watched several drivers I cannot single out Postal as being worse than others and therefore I will not be awarding a penalty. I realise that the race thread contained graphic examples of what was expected during the race but this seems to have been largely ignored. In future perhaps a more definitive instruction could be posted regarding which off-track concrete areas are on/off limits.
Therefore I advise all drivers to heed any track limit instructions offered by the race administrator.

I think some of the problem lies in the perspective you have from the cockpit which always seems to make the track seem a lot narrower than it appears on replays. From my point of view on my monitor I didn't think I was taking huge lumps of kerb regularly, just an odd occasion where I got the line a bit wrong (quite easy in these cars!). It certainly wasn't deliberate, I was actually trying quite hard to keep 2 wheels on the black stuff, in fact I thought I was making a better job of it than some other people.

Anyhow,as Clive said its irrelevant now as my disco took me out of the results anyway.

I don't dissagree in principle with either Clive or GT. I do understand that it's no use me saying that green concrete is ok "AFTER" the race.
But that is my opinion, and I think incident reports about one person in particular is unfair in this instance.

I haven't watched all the replay, but IMHO from what I saw no one did anything bad enough to warrant a report.
As always, if someone's driving hacks you off enough, then it is correct to post an incident report.  angel

Have to say i didn't enjoy this race - never got a proper handle on the car, and what it was doing in the corners remained a complete mystery to me throughout the race. Had no consistency whatsoever and i probably had a different line through every corner each time round..!

Also a shame that GT and Geoffers had problems, as my lonely run to P7 was the best that KC could manage..

One to forget for me therefore, but congrats to the podium.

The driver I reported did the following...

ran wide at T2 allowing greater entry/exit speed

continued to run wide (occasionally steering even wider) to open up T3 allowing greater entry speed

ran wide at T4 allowing greater entry/exit speed

continued to run wide to open up T5 allowing more entry speed

This was pretty much consistent throughout the race and was a choice of line which was clearly outside our rules. There were other instances which I would happily put down to errors of judgement or mistakes such as occasional cuts at apexes.

I don't believe it unfair to report this.

The rules are clear...

From SimRacing.org.uk rules

Under no circumstances should drivers engage in discussion of incidents in a public forum (including in-game chat).

Personally, I think rules for two wheels on the track are meant for chicane cutting. Not when you use concrete to get a better line into the corner or faster exit by drifting out. After all it's still concrete, which to me is still racing area. Though maybe the best solution is just not using tracks with potential for misunderstanding rules. I wasn't in this race, but if I was, before Clive's first post about lines, I definitely would have used whole concrete area. And after his post I would have tried to stay between them. But to me the rule is about not cutting chicanes.

I'm kinda with Matt on this one though. If you watch any onboard footage they make full use of the green strips. Even the tyre mark 'racing line' in the gtr2 track uses the green stuff. The track is too narrow for GT cars without them (wasn't it a motorbike circuit originally?) I'm normally as indignant as others with cutting but I just don't think it applies here. Those green strips are quite deliberate. I used them, mostly for two wheels, but know there were many occasions where my complete handful of a car no doubt made full use of them but that was not through any intent to gain an advantage more my lack of controlled precision! Kudos to guys who found great pace and didn't use them...of was it merely because your car held such an advantage you didn't need to use them?  angel  Wink

As said already, in hindsight Matt could have said this tracks a bit different with regards run off, but sure he hasn't got the time to think of everything. Any one of you fast boys could have asked for clarity on the green strips but didn't, likewise none of you posted up that the Beemer was in fact 2 secs a lap quicker than the RSR...funny that, what happened to spirit of competition?

One final thing to remember, these are Lairey 70's racing cars us amateur racers are flinging around on a narrow track, not precision F1 cars driven by aliens.

Always an emotive subject, and is a pain in the rectum to have to administer. On one hand I am with CLive, one rule for all is easy
However all tracks are not the same, and what is "reasonable" at one place is taking liberties at another.
I tend to just go with what "makes sense" (To Me)

Anyway, people gotta do what they think is right.

Onwards ever onwards, Snetterton next, cut track warnings will get you there anywhere it's an advantage  devil

To digress from all this very serious track cutting stuff, I´d like to thank Bob for a very entertaining race for last position. I wish people could have heard the amazing engine concert of our two brilliant Porsches racing eachother at close distance! Who needs a podium finish?
Also I´d like to apologise to my SBRC. Bob tricked me into last but one position by lifting off just before the s/f line.
There goes my/the team´s record of most consistent last finisher!

Thanks for good fun all, (Senior)Dan

To digress from all this very serious track cutting stuff
thumbup1

Very pleased to be able to get it home in 2nd place, given the pace of the other cars here. Otto was untouchable in the BMW and qualifying only put me in P6, so I thought my only chance of a good result would be from being consistent and taking advantage when other people made mistakes...and it worked Grin Didn't get away particularly well, but the Porsche held its own in the twisty stuff until the start/finish straight, at which point I got picked off by one car after another. After the first few laps had settled down I was surprised to be staying in touch with the leading pack (probably squabbling amongst themselves), so was able to gain when they fell off.

A nice bit of teamwork from Clive near the end let me escape and hold onto a podium while he fended off Frederico, which resulted in a nice haul of team points.

On top of all of that, my brake pedal started to give up the ghost at the beginning of qualifying Embarrassed Second time it's happened since I've had them (I must have a heavy foot). Had to turn the sensitivity up so that I wouldn't exert too much pressure and make it worse, it was quite a challenge getting used to it in the first few laps. I've ordered a replacement part from Fanatec which should hopefully be here before the next race (I should hope so anyway, given the extortionate price they charge for delivery!).
