That was a fun, if a little bit frustrating, race Smiley Big challenge getting the Cobra round here, but very rewarding when it goes right.
Inherited the lead briefly when Donato went wide at the last corner, but it didn't last long as I did the same myself after a couple of laps! Spent the rest of the race trying to catch up, but each time I did I'd either make a mistake or Donato would put in a quick lap to keep me at arms length. Still, pleased with second considering the company Smiley

Grats Donato & welcome to the new guys thumbup1

Grats to you! It was tough.....

You was little bit faster than me (1-2 tens), i was on a little conservative strategy with my car to avoid extreme tyres consumption, trying to drive clean and smoothly....... You made me sweat!  laugh
I did some little mistakes, but fortunatly u did too! Cheesy

Wow! I can't wait to the next race!

See u!

That was a fun but tricky race. Really surprised (& a bit lucky) to finish 3rd at the end.

Got a great start & jumped from 8th to 5th by T1 just behind an even better starting Frex. Nabbed 4th when Frex went wide at the Light Bulb Turn but when we got to the S/F straight I discovered my setup was pants for straight line speed & I lost 4 places!  Roll Eyes
Then followed several great laps in a fantastic multi-car battle until one by one my opponents decided to go sightseeing in the dunes. Eventually ended up in 6th place chasing Frex, Ivan & Clive. Frex went off followed a few laps later by Clive & Ivan ran out of fuel on lap 22, so as I say I rather lucked into 3rd at the finish.  Grin

Congrats to Donato & John  clap clap

@Vittorio. please could you add your country to your profile so you get an nice flag next to your name  Grin

Albert is in as a guest driver for the moment. If he decides to run with us regularly, then it would be
helpful if he entered events as himself. Once or twice is fine, no worries, but for the championship points
you need to be your own name.

The track was a bit bumpy, but I slowly started to get the hang of it during practice and qualifying last night. No lights resulted in a pathetic start, and I was down to P12 through T1. Unfortunately, my attempts to avoid colliding with the cars in front of me resulted in one or two jostles from behind, and I ended up spinning off. That left me down in P24, with a lot of hard work to do!

Thankfully, that "hard work" proved to be extremely enjoyable. I worked my way up through the pack (partly due to impressive overtaking skills Cool and partly because other drivers decided to make a temporary switch from Cobra to Dune Buggy Grin). I suspected that there would be quite a few off road "excursions" in this race, so I tried to be as consistent and quick as possible without being daft. That worked a treat for me, and I moved all the way up to P4 by the time that I crossed the finishing line.

The low fuel warning light was flashing for the final two laps, so I ended up cruising around in 4th gear at the end. I had no idea if the fuel estimate was accurate at the start of the race, so I added 65L to the tank, which was calculated to be sufficient for 28 laps. However, it wouldn't have been!

The start lights fooled me too, I usually do a practice start to check the lights etc, I didn't test this one as I have
been away a lot, and I plain forgot. I tend to use the timing display and go when the numbers start rolling.

The fuel caught a few people out. I ran 75 litres, which was over the top, XD said 3.05 ltrs per lap at my pace.
so that would have been 71 litres.

I started near the back of the grid and let those behind me get past as I thought that the first corner would be carnage but I was wrong, well done Drivers.

So I set off to find the only concrete structure around the entire site that would kill my car if I hit it side on. I was 100% successful  Roll Eyes

not sure I enjoyed that as a racing experience last night. The Cobra over bumps and unforgiving sand dunes and edges was too much of a blunt instrument in my hands. I hate understeering cars!  Sad   Kudos to those who were seriously hussling their cobras along up front Cool

Had a crap start due to being mid field and no lights to see at all, so got engulfed by about 7 cars  Roll Eyes  then overtook a handful of cars down to about T3 or 4 only to get offline on cold tyres, run wide up onto the dunes and watch the whole grid go past  Hit with a wet fish so was right at the back. This seems to be happening to me in every race lately  :'(
Like Mogget, I had best fun of the race catching and passing a lot of cars on my way back up the grid. I eventually reached 11th and was going to be fairly content with that under the circumstances. However with about two laps to go I moved wide to let the leader past and frustratingly got off on the damn sand. I was so flustered and annoyed with myself that I then made two further trips to the dunes on the last two laps throwing away 2-3 places to cars that were 20+ secs behind me....grrrr. hang

so one to quietly forget for me.

Oh dear, I had some serious race pace and then blew it!  Good event though, better than the bland roller skate races.

I feel that I should apologise to both Erik and John for wasting all of their good tutoring and setups.  I had managed a 1:42.9 whilst chasing Erik's TT lap before the race!

Qually was good, with John on 2nd, Ivan 3rd and me 4th.  I got a good start and was getting comfortable in 3rd spot when I just ran a tad wide at the Spoon and was off across the sand.

That dropped me back a few spots but I was able to recover to 4th, following Ivan.  That included passing Geoffers, which did cheer me up at the time! ;-)

I was happy to follow Ivan home but had Geoffers a couple of seconds behind me so couldn't ease off too much.  But it's the sort of circuit where you need 110% concentration all of the time and because I wasn't really racing anyone I went and messed up T3.  That put me back to 8th but I wasn't too upset as I knew that I had left Ivan in a strong 3rd.

Imagine my surprise to find that Ivan hadn't made it to the finish!

We still took ten points away from the Kerbies but it could have been even better!   Roll Eyes

PS  Hard luck Ivan.

I see that I am up to P6 in the championship (and Walter is P11), and that the WSL Racing Team is P5. Not bad for latecomers to the season, Walter Cool

I know that Clive. Thing is a bit of friendly team rivalry spices things up and is healthy for the racing here. If everyone joins the same few teams it takes that away imo. Personally I'd like to see more teams on the grid.

Amen to that GT  Smiley. Sadly I'm getting to the point where I feel I may need to leave my beloved Legends to join a 'team' as I'm fed up being a lonely Charlie on the grid  Undecided. Would hate to give up the superb classic Gulf colours but doesn't really apply to p&g.
So....should I join another crew? Anyone even want an enthusiastic retro racer that needs a polish up to improve from top 10 to top 5?

Who can I send my cv too?  cowboy
