Moderator's Report

Quiet Red Zone. Phillipe and Badblood have problems at the hairpin but nobody else is affected. Hendy starts from the pitlane and costs himself a lot of time but puts in a great drive to finish within touching distance of third.

Server replay time: 0h25m00s

Billy waits a few laps to take his stop and go. This is technically a DQ since you have two laps to make the stop but nobody was adversely affected and this is a difficult pit entrance to find.

A DQ would be over the top but don't do it again ;)

Season 25 Privateers Trophy, Round 6 Mexico

Second half of the Privateers season. Across the ocean to even sunnier Mexico.

Our race is at the historic 2.747-mile race track "Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez" in Mexico City, named for the famous racing drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. This track first hosted F1 in 1962 when Ricardo was killed in practice for the non-championship event. Despite this inauspicious start the course was a staple of the F1 championship between 1963 and 1970. This is a tough circuit and if you can avoid the polos there should be some close racing.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 06-10-2013
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Mexico (Papy original)
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = Intermediate
Race length = 50 Minutes (laps 28)
Password: see above

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

A maximum of ONE reset is allowed per race & must be followed by a compulsory Stop & Go in the pit lane within two laps of the Reset. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of Peralta (Nearly the whole lap). Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sorry Dave, Porto was last time. This is Mexico. Sorry for the confusion. Completely forgot to post the race as I thought it was F2s...

Not been on the ball lately.

No worries Smiley  Of course, we all know it's Mexico really so no confusion.

Apologies for nit-picking;  was just up early waiting for something interesting to happen...

Satisfying race. Good start then span accelerating away from the hairpin which I have never done before but got my head straight and set about chasing down Phillipe and then we had a short battle before M. Girard disappeared from my radar. Pity, it was shaping up nicely.

Let Hendy through and took notes about line not to take...  Grin. Somehow Billy and Michael came into view (they must have had problems) but I was definitely closing and I concentrated on not trying too hard. Michael span in front of me and I (think) I just avoided him but it was a bit scary... Bill must have stopped because he was behind me as well. Suddenly I was leading and the one under pressure. I knew that Bill was a couple of seconds quicker than me so my tactics were to try and get a good exit out of the polos at the T1 complex and then after the hairpin floor it through the first chicane. Managed for six laps to make my Brabby WIDE but then clipped a polo which put Bill virtually IN my cockpit... needed to keep it clean....

Did so until the last lap when I span going into the polos... pressure and just braking that fraction later. Frustrating but Bill was quicker and deserved the place.

I've never much liked Mexico but enjoyed this. Bit disappointed that nobody turned up in iGOR for a post race dissection...

Well, unfortunately I had a hot date with the contents of a load of cardboard boxes that needed to be found homes before way too early in the morning (it involves builders...).  As it was, was lucky to be able to join the session at all,  jumping into the qually session with about 4mins left on the clock.

<RAMBLE>
Plumped for the Ferrari as I've previously [apparently, but not recently!] managed a 1:51.  Not my best time, but was only willing to drop a few extra tokens on the Fezza.    However,  got nowhere near that time tonight.  In fact,  my 1-2 qually laps were pretty ragged to say the least.  But, maybe the recent 69/Can Am events actually helped me adapt a little quicker come race time.

Managed an ok-ish start & from there is was quite a lonely event.  I was probably lucky that Andreas ahead had a spin.  From there on,  was a case of keeping tabs of how far behind fellow BN'ers Billy/Andreas were.  Although still a bit too close for comfort;  should I have had an incident.   I was just trying to keep calm & not run off/crash.  Mostly worked too!  Although relieved when I saw the chequered flag.

Even the initial onset of cramp in my right hand was not too bad;  luckily I caught that quickly - that is my drinking hand after all! Soon cleared after a few corners with some stretching & then tried not to grip quite so hard.  Oh yeah, the other thing was remembering to breathe of course.

So, was just trying to keep it tidy-ish.  The other guys ahead were off;  I'd not be anywhere near them again.  Clearly Axel & Martin were a class apart here/tonight - congrats gentlemen.

I still don't know what I'm supposed to do round here;  personally I find pootling round the twisty bit in 2nd gear & not crashing works for me.

Although clearly not trying hard enough as apparently top of the GPLRA 'on-track' table.  Also top on the 'consistency' table too - so maybe the not-crashing thing does help after all; after all I only got 6th fastest laptime.

</RAMBLE>

Cheers,
Dave.

I could pretty much cut & paste Paul’s post to sum up my race. Never be able to do what feels like a really good lap at Mexico & usually end up hitting something that hurts.
Quallified fourth which was promising. Maddog & Dave C had much better starts & blew past me before turn 1. A couple of cars dropped away & I was back to fourth, just about keeping a steady gap to Dave. This is where I should have started putting in consistent laps but I brushed the curb in the corner after the hairpin. Needed a Shift R to get free & then discovered I didn’t really know where the pit entry – took me three attempts to find it.
After the SnG I was last of the runners but set up for a great battle with Badblood. Took me 5 laps to catch up & then another 5 of harrying. Not too many places that you can easily pass here. Paul had a moment through turn 1 on the very last lap. Bad luck mate – you almost held on the place.
Whilst wins / podiums are good the real fun of GPL is a close, prolonged battle.
Well done to team mate Dave – you drove the sort of race I was hoping to. In terms of gearing – do you have the GPL Replay Analyser programme? You can watch other drivers laps to see how they do a lap. From experience driving style, chassis & gearing mean that another drivers method won’t always work for you but certainly worth a look.

Almost a trouble free race here, although I did once try Billy's curb collecting technique, with a few seconds lost to rearward navigation.

Surprised to jump up to 2nd, and continue to pull clear, mine became a rather a lonely race.  Possibly a personal best, on an old setup, which survived the test of time, as did the tyres - always the limiting factor, when I'm 67-ing.

The key to a reasonable laptime?  For me, t'was to steer the esses with the rear.  A good rearend  with a chassis that doesn't bite back unexpectedly, allows the specified rotation at a decent clip . . . . unless it's a curb clip. clown blink

I tried the Cooper for this challenging track but did not find a setup that's driveable and gentle with tyres.
Then, at last minute, I switched to Braby with a gh2_mex_32lapgp_ff Huttu setup.
This was nearly perfect for me, using the great Repco torque with low revs was very smooth and save Wink

I had to fight with some sweat running in my eyes burning, trying to wipe it away made my glasses dirty and so I had to drive the last laps without them...
