Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Start: STANDING
Tyre wear: Normal
Fuel consumption: Normal
Pit stops: Not required

Server: simracing.org.uk Monday
Password: see above

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) The AI control should be turned off so that you have control of the car at all times, including pitting. Your player file should therefore read
Autopit="0"
Force Autopit Off="1" // Forces autopit always off
No AI Control="1" // AI never has control over car
If you still finding pitting problematic, experience tells us that its less to do with positioning and more to do with approach speed. A slow approach to pit crew chief has proved most reliable.

Special Notes: Circuit is named "Italian GP 60's" in track list.
Some cars offer a Modern Compound tyre. Please do not choose these.

Hello Michel and welcome to SimRacing.org.uk. GTL.

First thing you should always do is read the first post in a thread. Its called the Race Announcement and it will tell you everything you need to know to join a race, ok?

This thread is for the first race in our WCM series so you need to download and install the track and all of the cars.

We run on the Simbin lobby and our practise server will be visible there. It won't be showing on Thursday and Sunday nights as we turn it off when other leagues here are racing.

I guess you should try and join the track online. Let us know how you get on. If you run into any difficulties or have a question or ten get back to us here. There are loads of drivers who will be able to help you.

Cheers

Tony

Noticed that some cars creep forward when 1st gear engaged. Suggest use of Auto-clutch if you don't have a clutch pedal.

This does look a great series. How do the cars feel? What's the reason for dropping the 917? Surely that F512 needs it as an opponent?
I'm away in Italy before this round so wouldn't leave me much time to install, configure and test in time but might give it a shot.

Hi Tony and other GTL'ers. I hope to be able to join some of your races and explore something other than my main addiction, which is GPL. You guys have cars from the same era but somewhat different classes.

Thanks to Tony's help I have cobbled together GTL on my PC and have managed a few exploratory laps around Monza on your server in a couple of the cars allocated for Monday's race.

As a noobie to these tintops and GTL, it would be good to have an idea of the hierarchy of the various cars available...I assume that they are not all equal as they certainly do not feel "equal" and perhaps what sort of laptimes I should be working towards if I am not going to be a mobile chicane when you come to lap me??!! ( BTW, if I feel I am a danger to life and limb, I will quit the race). Wink

2nd question...
Is there a dedicated chat room for Srou GTL'ers to meet up in prior to the race ? if so how do I find it? I see plenty of "main" chatrooms in the Simbin lobby.

3rd question...
In car chat?  I have it toggled as "on" in GTL but do I have to hit a key once on the server/track or do I just use the 1-9 default messages? I am assuming that "chat" is kept to a minimum anyway during qually and racing other than those default messages?

4th question..
Setups, I am able to change the final drive ratios but NOT individual gears although I have the +/- buttons alongside them. Is this correct? I ask because I found the Lola running out of revs at Monza even on the highest final drive ratio?? maybe I have missed something in the configuration of GTL? Undecided

I have the XD? HUD loaded and (apparently) working. I think I can grasp the tyre temps, oil temp, water temp OK, but what is that "%" figure right in the centre trying to tell me? lol Just cannot even guess what it is....yup I know it is probably blindingly obvious!!  Roll Eyes

Hi Clive, good to see you over this side.

The quickest cars are the F512 and the 917K but the Alfa, Matra and Lola aren't too far behind and might even have the edge on tighter tracks. The 908s and the 312 are there as a slightly easier alternative to their bigger brothers, but again won't be too far off the pace. Don't forget that it's a limited drive championship so drivers will all have to take slower cars at some point.

I would guess a target pace of 1:30 around Monza60 would be in amongst it (a bit like GPL?) but I'd expect some fellows to be 4 to 6 secs quicker than that. If you're off the pace and find yourself being lapped don't worry....as always it's up to the driver lapping to pass you safely so just wait for them to make a move. Top tip, enable your virtual mirror in game for a better view.

There is no pre-race dedicated chatroom as such. When you enter the game online you will see a chat icon near the bottom left of the screen. Click on it and you can type messages in the box that appears but no chat during quali or race please as it can be distracting to some. You can customise your default quickchat messages to the usual ones if you wish.....hi, gla etc.

Re setups and gear ratios, the options differ from car to car and depend on how each one was made. Some cars only have final drive option (not sure if this applies to all WSC cars) while others have individual gear options.

The % figure in xd is the engine health value. If you rev the nuts off some cars the value will decrease until the engine eventually blows. I can't remember it being a problem with these cars as long as you're sensible.

Hope that covers everything Clive and look forward to seeing you on track.

Cars take a bit of taming and getting used to, but they are very rewarding to drive once you get the hang. Copy your ffb part from your PnG plr for a familiar feel  Wink

Only the 917L has been dropped....because it is a dog. The 917K is very much on the menu  Smiley

Have fun in Italy and hope to see you on track.

They look good and sound awesome. Only dropped the 917L as it's undriveable due to some bad mistakes having been left in and not corrected by the creator. However the 917K is more than a match for the F512.

Hi Clive, seems like Goldtop has beat me to it and there's little I can add to what he has said. The Alfa is probably the best car to start in, it's quite well behaved. Remember with some of these cars if you apply the power to heavily in the lower gears you will just do donuts, so apply gradually. In the higher gears you can floor it.

All chat takes place in game using the chat button GT pointed out. After race chat is usually next day here. Some drivers can and do drive and type but for me that's a recipe for disaster so I rely on the preset messages available in game (which you can edit if you wish). Each message is assigned a button so when I lap you I will press a button and "Thanks" will appear in your cockpit (and everyone else's if they have chat turned on). Chat in praccy is fine but please limit it in qualy and race to essentials only. Some drivers find it outputting.

Some cars do allow individual cog swapping but generally it's the final drive that gives you longer gearing. So if you run on to the limiter before that long straight ends you need to add a click or two to the final drive setting.

In cockpit view press the "2" key to toggle the amount of on-screen clutter suits you.

Use XD in praccy to learn how much fuel your car needs to do a lap. For the race times that by the no. off laps and add a couple of litres for good luck. Fuel up when qualy ends. Your going to pick up a load more stuff as you progress but you now have the basics sorted.

Ok guys, thanks for the feedback.

I think it will take a while to get the feel for these beasts  Roll Eyes

Just a couple of things I would like to check.

The "%" value which is the health of the engine?? It has a different value every time I leave the pits? sometimes 100% sometimes as low as 30%??? But if I esc and return to garage the value changes each time.
Which is why I queried what it was .
