Moderator's Report

No incident during red zone !
Congrats to all.
By the way, there were lot of warps during the 1st lap (maybe also for other laps), essentially between turn 3 and turn 5.

Only one reported incident ...

Server replay time: 0h16m59s

After several tries on the previous laps, D. Rainier could overtake Francesco Molteni at the begin of lap 14.
Unfortunately, Francesco's car was ejected out of the track (but he could rejoin).

As I was involved in this accident, I asked help from other moderators.
Here is what we agreed :

It was warp , but Fran could (and should) have left more room. From Fran's cockpit view he can see Dave's front wheel just as he turns in, so there was plenty of opportunity to give more room. Fran should have kept to his own 50% of the track.
Something that we should learn is that GPL ALWAYS punishes the car on the outside. So if we are on the outside, and there is any chance of contact, it is always wiser to leave room and survive.

There is no gain in being "right" if GPL still throws you over the armco!!!

After Monza and just before Surfers Paradise the Historics championship is :
1 Dean Logan 229
2 Andreas Gebhardt 221
3 Magic Arsouille 216
4 Evil Clive 213
5 Dave Rainier 201
6 Maddog 169
7 Phil Thornton 164

If we remove only the worst result, it is :
1 Magic Arsouille 216
2 Evil Clive 213
3 Dean Logan 206
4 Dave Rainier 201
5 Andreas Gebhardt 200
6 Phil Thornton 164
7 Maddog 154

If we remove the 2 worst results, it becomes :
1 Magic Arsouille 197
2 Evil Clive 196
3 Dave Rainier 186
4 Dean Logan 181
5 Andreas Gebhardt 175
6 Phil Thornton 164
7 Maddog 135

We can see the 2 real dominant drivers are Magic Tristan and Evil Clive and how Dean and Andreas are penalized, only because they participated at all the races.

That's the reasons, I decided to remove any handicap for this race.
I hope everyone will understand and agree with that decision ... if not, just tell (write) me !

Surfers Paradise race is configured for 50 laps on UKGPL server.
The best drivers should be running at 1'08-1'09 on this track ...so it means the race will have a duration between 57 min and 1 hour, and not 50 minutes as indicated !

For your information, I will run some test sessions from now to 22.00 (UK time)

I will be stunned if anyone is running around in the race sub 1.10 let alone sub 1.09 in a 2L car without a constant tow  Shocked Shocked But I'm looking forward to seeing people have a go  Grin Grin

I just made 1'12''35 after only 10 laps with the Brab 2,7l.
So the best shoud run around 1'10 or less...

Grats to Tristan on his win, I notice no-one broke the 1:10 sec barrier in quali or race...but there were some times that were very close lol!!

Must apologise to Dean  Embarrassed for spinning and parking right on the racing line in the early laps. I hope the clunk I felt had nothing to do with your later retirement?

The second half of the race got a little lonely, as Tristan had scampered away in the lead and I had a healthy gap back to Andy Miller. the biggest problem was maintaining concentration and not day dreaming  Roll Eyes. I had one or two "dumb" moments but nothing too serious lol.

Sorry chaps for the lag from me in the 2nd lap. I warped into someone. I will have to check replay and write apologies to amend.

I'm chuffed with the result but not at all pleased with a rejoin i did after losing 2nd place. I stupidly crossed the track, to face the right way, and there was contact with Logan. Really sorry ol'boy. It's an action I've seen all too much over the years so I'm ashamed of myself. I hope it didn't cause damage that led to your dnf.

Other than that it was a great battle for 2nd and 3rd throughout the early part of the race with Clive and Dean. Great stuff Smiley

Well done the Tristan on the win. Great pace.

Severe lag for me towards the end of lap one ended my race. You all disappeared and when you came back my engine had blown. Sorry to anyone who may have been affected by my demise. Grats to the podium of Tristan, Clive and Andy I believe.

Severe lag for me towards the end of lap one ended my race.
Same thing happened to me, everyone vanished at turn 4 (replay time between 1:28 and 1:32).  I stayed wide because I didn't know where anyone else was.  Luckily I did because Andreas reappeared on my inside.  If I hadn't we would have rematerialized on the same bit of track and we would both have been sent into orbit oops

The rest of the race was true to form.  I managed to get past David when he had a slight spin at turn 6.  But by then the leaders were too far ahead for me to benefit from any draft so any chance of hanging on to them was gone.  Even with a decent draft I would have struggled!  I managed to keep my concentration for a change and was just quick enough to keep ahead of David sweatdrop; he kept the pressure on right until the end.

Brilliant track for the 66s.

Interesting comments about lag.......I thought that it was just me as both Tristan's and Andy's cars warped in and out of vision for a few laps early in the race.

Beware there are a lot of witches in Avus  Wink

I think it will be Avus 1950
I will confirm as soon as GPL track database site will be working again.

The most important thing is to not repeat what did Hans Hermann in 1959 in this place :

Hans was lucky this day !
He was also lucky, 11 years later, when he won Le Mans 24 hours !

Tales from the tail-end.

I was sure I had previously installed this track as it sounded familiar,  but I must have just read about it from some other series!

Grabbed it the night before & tried a few laps in each of the the GroupIII cars running the 'same' setup  [looks a bit like Brands Hatch round here wouldn't you say?!]  & decided on the 2nd ride [Brab 2.7] as that was best for me with a confirmed 1:14.5  & a prib-suggested 1:13.

Was never really going to be in contention anywhere  - usual in this series,   but was happy enough with being about .1 second off PB from previous night for qually.    Although I noticed that I had some red tyre temps,  so just guessed & reduced the fronts by 2 PSI  [I actually adjusted something!].

Race was fairly quiet at the back, although I was trying to keep tabs on Nigel for the 1st part & Fran from middle onwards.    Tried to let my team-mates through easily when they were coming back through the field,  hopefully that worked as intended.

Happy enough to have managed to finish intact,  just 1 lap down.   Also pleased to have knocked 2 seconds off best time with a prib-suggested 1:11, so there was some improvement.  Maybe not trying hard enough as joint-top for on-track lap %,   but just tried to get to the end intact.

Nothing against the guy,  but it did lift the spirits slightly when I realised that I'd 'overtaken' Mr Logan & co.
Unfortunately, it's the only way my passing maneouvers work out!

Cheers,
Dave.

Next race will be AVUS 1950   :   http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=2729

There will be handicaps for the 3 leaders... so Martin, you'll have no excuse !

I will create the related topic asap.
