Had to put some practise in for this one and a lot of setup work on the Alfa to get it balanced. When I realised I was going to be a bit too quick I put in a quali lap to keep up my stats for the series but then escaped and re-entered to start at the back.

When paddock caught a few out on lap 1 I had a free drive into 4th (I think) and then set about chasing down those in front. Took my time and waited for little errors to get through eventually taking the lead a few laps in. I picked up a very strange cut warning at T2 and had to be particularly careful each time through there. I had found a way of enabling a lap delta in xd which kept me distracted entertained for the rest of the race and managed to keep things neat and tidy to the flag.

Thanks for the racing  Cool

To be absolutely honest I was not even expecting to complete this race, and in the last few laps I the Lola did everything it could to make that prophecy come true.

Having spent the weekend at the Goodwood Revival and travelling home on Monday, I was just about overloaded with motor Racing and strangely felt somewhat spent and knackered.
( I don't think the consumption of beer and late nights chatting about everything from simracing to biscuits could have had anything to do with my tiredness  Roll Eyes )

I jumped on the server and took the Lola ( only because there were Lolas at Goodwood and it seemed appropriate??) Gradually tamed the beast during practice and qually although I did get confused with the fuel levels, so I just filled the tank to the brim...and hoped it would be enough??!!

Somehow I held Postal outside around Paddock and I hope that it was fair as I felt no contact  angel and I stuck it tight into Druids before I checked the mirror . Erling was a little way behind , so I pushed hard to build a gap whilst I had breathing space.
I knew GT would be coming past at some point given the lap times he was posting earlier. I did try to defend for a lap or so, but I was only delaying the inevitable  Undecided and I ran a little wide at paddock on one lap so i just left the door open for him and waved goodbye.
Postal loomed in the mirrors before long and once again mistakes on my part left the door open and by the time he was past my tyres had seen their best laps  Undecided
For the last part of the race I was fighting the unpredictable handling and tyre wear issues and each time I ran off track Erling would close and I had to summon enough concentration to put in a quick lap to regain some space. But fatigue from Goodwood and lack of talent meant that I could only do that for 2 laps before it all went wrong again.

I just managed to limit the mistakes and retain 3rd spot. I would not call that managing the gap Erling!! although it might have looked that way to you  Grin

grats to GT and Postal who were way faster than I could compete with and hard luck to Erling who might have nicked 3rd if i had made just one more excursion into the boondocks!!

Puzzled by the results table - it shows GT on pole and me on 4th, but if I'm not mistaken, he started from the back, Postal was on pole and I was 3rd  Huh

There is something strange about them.  Did my initial offline testing on softs, but improved my laptimes when I switched to hards, so used these in the race.  On hards, the fronts lasted longer, but the rears wore faster, strangely.  Also tried mixing them; hard fronts & soft rears, but that made the car completely undriveable - no rear grip at all.

Have you seen GT's explanation ?

I'll toss in a few, but am I wrong in seeming to recall having paid not long ago ?

Cheers,

Lol ok, maybe you were just fighting for survival after all  Cheesy  Sorry I couldn't mount more of a challenge towards the end, but with the two cut track warnings looming over my head, and increasingly erratic handling on worn tyres, I had to err on the side of caution...  sweatdrop

Cheers,
Erling

Enjoyed this race, was pleased with my setup for the Tipo 33 and had great fun trying to keep up with Erling, but latter part of race he opened gap up to 6 secs and no way could i close it, great track choice and cars Tony.
