I may be doubtful for tonight  :'(

Twanged a back muscle so sitting and working foot pedals may be too much. If I'm able I'll do at least one race, otherwise I'll turn up as a spectator.

Bugger all Tony  Sad

Hope you make it.  Get well soon.

Cheers,
Erling

Ouch. sorry Tony, only just read this thread. If you need me to do anything just shout.

Gonna try to attend. Mrs Wiltshire has applied liberal smearings of Deep Heat  sweatdrop into the affected region so I should be ok.

Bill, thanks for the 904/4 setup. Had to tweak the gearing a little, as I was running out of revs down the start/finish straight, and I dialled in a little more brake pressure. Used this to set my above fastest time in the 904/4.

Cheers,
Erling

I guess the difference is that you take the last left hander faster than me and reach rev limiter that much sooner than me.  I bounce along on rev limiter on start/finish straight but playing around with the top 3 cogs just increased my lap times.  Glad it was of some use.

Ack, that was a royal mess in race 1.  Knew my lucky streak of the previous races had to end sometime.

Race 1:
2nd on grid.  Lost a couple of places towards and through the first hairpin.  Got a whack approaching the chicane, which send me into the armco and down to 9th. A couple of laps later, I was the one doing the whacking. Slammed into the back of Evert at the first hairpin. Very sorry about that. Was off my normal line approaching the turn, and missed my braking point. Managed to catch Tony and Clive too in the incident, so I guess you can say I don't do things halfhearted, when I finally cause an accident...  oops

Waited till everyone had passed and was now 11th and last. Cracked on and made up some places.  Was chasing Roger at one point, who was laying out a smokescreen so dense, I had trouble seeing my braking points at times.  Was catching up to Clive in 4th towards the end, but ran out of laps before I could mount a challenge for it.

Race 2:
3rd on grid. Again lost a couple of places in the first hairpin.  Rubbed shoulders with Roger at the 2nd hairpin and lost another place, now down to 6th. Was 7th at one point, but regained places to finish 4th.  Got a couple of knocks along the way, but none costing me any places. Had some good racing with Evert & Roger, finally making it past the latter, when he ran a tiny bit wide in the 2nd hairpin.  No chance of catching the 3rd place car unfortunately.

Cheers,
Erling

The reluctance of the 904-6 to make any sound, meant that I had to use the 904-4 which I discovered was down on top end compared to the 6 cylinder option. But, what the heck, I decided to wring the neck of the grumbling 4 pot and see what we could do. The primary objective was to avoid being lapped!! well at least not twice! Roll Eyes

I was given permission by the entertainment police hereabouts to indulge in some pre-race practice on the server and learn how to muscle this car around.
A Pb of 1:03 in practice, never re-appeared in qually and I started some way back on the grid. Not really a problem as I am still a bit nervous of how GTL behaves and getting in the way of the more experienced guys here.
Watching from behind I could see that the paint sample transfer market was very bouyant and the "enthusiasm" of some drivers was allowing me to pick up places. It was reassuring to see that others were struggling with the brakes ( not the eventual podium guys, they were away and gone!) and I actually found myself picking off a couple of places into the hairpins.

Then a retired kamikaze veteran of many missions  Roll Eyes relived his best moment and effectively allowed me to gain 3 places in one fell swoop and I exited T1 in 4th place with a substantial gap behind and about 10 miles behind the leading trio. I told myself.."OK just concentrate on getting a smooth entry into the big corners and don't stamp on the gas and spin it!).
Tony was catching me very slowly at first but I knew I had some reserve pace, so I just kept it safe and steady and let him do the hard work  Grin. I think he made a mistake and then it was Wiley Coyote showing as the car on a mission behind. He was reeling me in a a fair rate, so I had to push just a little harder because some quick mental maths confirmed that he would catch me before the flag Shocked
Just to tease Coyote and make things more interesting I made a couple of dumb errors ( deliberate of course  Wink ), but still managed to squeak across the line in 4th.
I notice that it was the top 4 cylinder porker  Grin which was a bit lucky really considering the lack of top end against the 6 pot variety, but leaves a very warm glow.

So when the second race was proposed I got a bit cocky and thought..."I can see where i need to improve the setup to gain a few tenths"...........and managed to prove myself totally wrong and inept!!!! The car was a basket case in the 2nd race and when i spun it in the Esses I had to quit before I caused a road block...probably just as well...should've left things as they were  Undecided

Grats to the podium boys, they are still a long way ahead of my ability quotient and I migt never get that quick, but I feel I am beginning to understand how to drive these GTL cars some of the time and I should be able to get involved in some racing soon.

 lol

Brilliant write up Clive, glad your doing so well too. Those podium boys need to watch out, there's evil about.

Good night's racing with lot's of individual battles all around the track. Particular mention to Roger and Evert who must be sick of the sight of one another after their spirited driving against each other in both races. My better race was the 2nd but due to two errors at each hairpin, one after the other, I dropped from 4th to 8th. Managed to claw back a couple of places when Kurt made an error and I was a bit quicker than Evert. The replays are great viewing if you have the spare moment.
Who's going to stop the GT machine tho? Volvo's in Sweden next on a more traditional race circuit. Hope your all there  thumbup1

Good fun both races, managed out drag Erling at least once, I think being used to the
3 - 2- 1- GO helps  Grin Traded paint with Tony a couple of times as I squeezed past at the hairpins
not too impolitely I hope...  Wink Found myself trying in vain to hang on to the back of Postal
who was just that bit faster, IMHO these cars are not representative of "normal" GTL cars
the braking was quite challenging to get right, and I had to compromise the setup a lot
to make it so I could get into the hairpins without losing it every lap.

Had to put some time into sorting a setup for this one as getting in and out of the hairpins quickly was so crucial to a good lap. The faster setup did however make things more difficult to control, so I'm glad I was able to get through both races without any pirouettes.

Sounds like there were some good battles throughout the grid  Cool

As a retired kamikaze....

I can only apologise for my woeful efforts. At first I couldn't touch the brakes without the car spinning. Finally found a brake balance that meant I could (just about) keep it in a straight line but I did find once or twice that stamping on the clutch is not a very effective way of stopping. Not sure I can bear to watch the replay.

By race two I felt I could give Bill a race and for a few laps I could and then I outbraked myself (again) and lost ten seconds. He maintained that gap brilliantly but I can definitely feel a bit of a rivalry growing, which I hope he is enjoying as much as I am.

Once again, apologies to anyone I pranged. None of it was intentional and I will try and make a better job of staying out of the way next time.

Paul, I don't know what kind of pedal setup you have but perhaps adjusting the in-game pedal sensitivity might be beneficial?
