Moderator's Report

One big incident on the way to T1 causes some mayhem...

The "contact" of Johnny and Arf in T1 is just a sample of the oversized crashboxes of the 65s!

Server replay time: 0h00m53s

Paul has not a good start as Billy, so both are side by side towards T1. But Paul on the inside moves to the left and touches Billy who luckily is only little affected. Paul crashes into the pitwall and the following drivers have massive problems...

Season 25 Novices and Intermediates Trophy - Round 8 - Silverstone

Round 8. The start of F1. History all the way. A papy original and THE home of British Motor Racing. Also the only track I have seen a real Grand Prix at (thanks Uncle Clive).

Based on an old airfield the original track was a very different shape based on the two runways. This quickly changed to the familiar format that remained unchanged for 38 years before cars got too fast and slowing them down became the order of the day. We race the classic. One of the fastest circuit around it is awesome when you get it right and frustrating when you don't.

NB. There is ONE grid for both the Novices and the Intermediates

The Novices and Intermediate Trophies will remain sharing a grid until further notice.

In view of the relatively small grids across two championships, handicapping makes little sense so all drivers have a FREE choice of car.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 09-11-2013
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time
Track = Silverstone
Variant = 65F1 - the 2.02 Release of the 65mod should be used
Damage Model = INT
Race length = 40 minutes (laps 26)
Password: see above
Replays Available here

65 Patch: The 2.02 Release of the 65mod can and should be used. You need a working installation of the 65 mod to install the 2.02 Update. All the 65 Mod files can be found here

Driver lists can be found on the Novice and Intermediate championship standings pages.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Intermediate drivers are limited to ONE reset. Novices have unlimited resets but EACH Shift-R MUST be followed within TWO laps by a Stop 'n' Go.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be the first lap up to and including Club corner. Free pass at Abbey and Woodcote if you are good. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

That's a shame for you Boggy - saw you disco just before qually ended, and was keeping an eye to see if you'd get back in time....

Well...that was an entertaining evening, for mixed reasons. Ivan ruled qually, 0.87 secs ahead of me. I was therefore expecting another close race with JP, who did almost the same time as me. Wasn't to be as JP came off badly in an early shunt. I was further surpised to draft Ivan on the straight and take the lead on 1st lap. We looked much more evenly matched in race setup, which was a nice surprise. We had a great scrap for a number of laps...until...

...as we came out of Stowe on the short straight down to Club, I could see a car on the wrong side of the straight going slowly. As we closed down on the corner I was trying to see what they'd do as Ivan and I bore down on them. Can I direct that gentleman to the shiny things on each side of your cockpit, as they tell you what's behind you. It was with horror that I realised he was going to take the corner, from the wrong side, slowly, with the two leaders right on top of them. Unbelievable.... Not only did I lose it taking avoiding action, but they got away ahead of me, and did exactly the same thing at Abbey. Two spins for me, and Ivan was out of sight. I fully accept that the overtaking driver has the duty of care, but if someone is ambling along a racetrack, off the racing line, I fully expect them to use their mirrors and give way! Oh, sorry if anyone was caught up in my spin leaving Abbey, I think there was contact with someone.

I think that left me in P4, soon to be P3. I think it was Billy that was a challenging overtake for P2, spiced up by Mr Pennington's arrival on my exhaust pipe. By the time I'd inched away from them there were something like 11 laps to go, and 15 secs of a gap to Ivan. The red mist came down, and off I went. My last few laps were mostly low 133s, which was pleasing, as all I could do was put as much pressure on Ivan as possible. Sure enough, with 5 laps to go, something happened and we were down to 4 secs or so. On the penultimate lap I got onto his exhaust, and nearly outbraked him into Stowe, but the tiniest slip at Abbey gave him just enough space to take the win. Great fun, but still annoyed at how we got into that position...

JP, just looked at the replay...you and I went into T1 close together...but not that close. I was in the inside and took a tighter line. I'm afraid it looks like warp took you out, as there's a huge gap between our cars....

Still, on the bright side, looking at the table, it seems you can think about putting both hands on the cup...I shall leave Ivan to decide if he chooses to disagree with that...

I have also found the culprit for my incident...Tony, your engine had gone on L4....why didn't you Shift R? You are allowed unlimited Shift Rs...you don't need to come into the pits with a dicky engine. Just shift +R, then go round to the pits and do your Stop and Go penalty.... Going round one of the fastest circuits we have at 50mph is just getting in the way...I see John and you had contact leaving Abbey on Lap 5 (and then it was JP that hit me as he was spinning).. there was just no reason for you to be there.

I was on the tail end of the Inter drivers and managed to hang on for most of the race. I had wondered what had happened in the aforementioned accident at Abbey. Most of the cars were moving when I arrived, but I did have to lift to ease past one of the cars. Afterwards, I was able to keep up with roguk, but I lost all of the mojo when I spun at Stowe with five laps to go, and then spun in the same place on the very next lap. I dropped back behind Paul and Dave, and tried to slipstream their cars. They had a little battle, and it allowed me to catch them. I did not think I had a chance at overtaking Dave, but I must have had a good exit out of Abbey on the last lap. I did leave the track a bit to make the move. I'm not sure if it was all four wheels or just two. Maybe the moderator will look at the replay and decide the outcome. Definitely an interesting race!

Just could not get it together tonight.
Great view of the entire grid from my start position though!  Applying more & more pressure on the clutch instead of the brake probably did not help anyone too much from the start however.    Yeah - I can't even remember what pedal does what; more proof of my novice credentials.

And although I started from the back,  it seemed that there was an endless stream of cars reeling me in....  and most of them were Badblood!

Now & again there was a glimmer of hope,  as it appeared there were 3-4 cars ahead that seemed to be getting a little bit closer.  Hopefully they would hold each other up so I could tag along too... but no.   I then kept making mistakes & they were also easing away again.

A few to go & Badblood was back again.  At least it was not some noisy mosquito/Honda buzzing away in my ear Smiley      Then Walter was back too, with his comparative rocketship after dropping it a few laps earlier & was past/I was passed.   I was not expecting to gain that back,  but thought it was worth a try anyway - although that quarter of a second may as well have been 20 laps as it worked out!

Not the most entertaining of outings from where I was,  but it sure had its moments!

Cheers anyway lads!
Dave.

Numpty start when I thought I was past Bill and eased to the left straight into him...

That put me back in the pit wall and my fuel disappeared along with my track position. After the restart caught Dave fairly easily and was planning a way past when he disappeared approaching Club. Bit of panic on my part span me so I set about catching him again. This time I span at Club all by myself when I got ken and over-accelerated out of the corner. Was now 16 seconds down with fifteen laps left. Felt I had the legs so I concentrated and put in a decent series of laps. Surprised to see Walter but was concentrating more on Dave. He overcooked it at Stowe so my elaborate pass into Woodcote didn't happen! Cruised to the finish but after practising hard I was confident of averaging 1:34ish here which would have been competitive. Wasn't to be. My racecraft in the early laps seems to let me down too much... Still, had fun. 0.6 off my PB but I just couldn't get a draft...

Talking of draft, planned a sneaky tow from JP in qually. First time, he span out at Beckets and the second, just as I had got the PERFECT distance into Woodcote he pulled off into the pits...

Quick at the front. WD. Arf and Ivan should think about moving up next time out. We will almost certainly run two 65 championships next season.

I got my pb on my first attempt in qualifying and couldn't get near it again. I span several times exiting Beckets so right before the race I took a clutch out of my race setup- I don't usually mess last minute.

I got a good start in the race and kept wide into T1 knowing someone was there- at the time I thought it was Ivan- my apologies Ivan I said after the race that you knocked me off when clearly you didn't. I ended up out on the grass which was no doubt warp or gpl's harsh treatment of cars on the outside. I rejoined in about 5th and got onto the back of Rog and Billy and had a great few laps trying to find an opportunity. They came together at the end of the straight and I got passed one of them not sure who. I'm not too sure what happened next I may or may not have got past the remaining Rog or billy but remember exiting a turn to find someone going really slow and I tried to get around them but made contact and spun along with a few others too- somehow no damage so off again in about 5th again. Slow progress but managed to get up to third- I tried hard but Arf was too fast to catch. The last few laps I had a good gap to billy behind and Arf was well infront I was watching prib to see if Arf was catching Ivan and I could see the gap closing with a cracking last lap on the cards. 3rd place was a good result for me as both Ivan and Arf are faster than me. Well done all- see you next time.

Steady race for me. Over the years I have driven so many laps at Silverstone that I expect to finish with no mistakes – can’t say the same for other tracks.
Off the start I bumped wheels with Badblood – which I think was one of those blindspot things & didn’t cause me any problem. Johnny ran wide into T1 & I’m up to third. About Lap 4 or 5 a scary moment going into Stowe with Rog who was chasing hard – again I escaped with just a minor nudge. After the next turn Arf was recovering from the sidelines & I detoured round him into 2nd!
Whilst I was putting in solid 1.35’s / 34’s first Arf & then Johnny made up the ground & passed me - & then just an uneventful run to the finish.

The Novice championship is getting rather interesting – especially once the two dropped scores come into play. Hope Al B is back for the last two races.

Interesting race. Did not test with R fuel so I think i filled it much more than needed. Was careful on the first lap and Arf quickly passed me. It was great chase till he made a mistake while passing someone and i got to 1st. Next laps were really boaring as i saw on the board that Arf an Jp are not the car behind me. About 10 laps before the finish saw on the board Arf coming and pushed a little made stupid mistake and spun. Next lap my advance went from -15 to -8 secs so i started pushing again. 1 lap before the finish stepped on a curb and spun again, quickly shifted and continued seeing Arf close in my mirror. It was difficult last lap but managed to finish 1st. Thanks everyone and see you next time Smiley

Ivan, I hope you don't mean you did a shift+R, as that would mean you'll get a time penalty for not making a Stop+Go......  ?

Don't worry BB, the question was asked in concern, not hope, that Ivan would lose his win. I had my chance to overtake and I cocked it up, so he deserves the win.

And yes, I fully expect to be punted upstairs next season...I'm still **** in the F2s but have performed better than I expected in the 65s. It is a real shame though, as the racing has been really good fun, with regular battles between myself, Ivan and JP...and a few guest protagonists. I'll have to wait and see if battling Ivan (and JP?) for 9th place means as much  Smiley
