Was fun until the tyres started wearing and I was wandering off track too often.
Maybe with some faster cars it will not be possible to got flat all the way down the hill  devil

My jag was only just able to take that flat. If you didn't get the right-hand kink just right, then you did the steep section either sideways or slowly rotating clockwise!

Sorry to Geoffers for the nudge at the start but I expected you to actually move when the lights went green.  Trying to avoid your Jag messed up my start and I was suddenly drowning in Ferraris!

So did I! Roll Eyes It was only when you bumped me from behind that I realised I had my foot on the brake  oops Race got worse after that, I don't know if the bump had damaged the car but I just could not get on the power out of the corners without the car wanting to swap ends. After the third spin at the final turn I gave up & went & got a beer!  Grin

That is interesting Clive.
I know you had the Jag and I was in the Fez, but from the tight left hander at the top (2nd gear for me) I was on max throttle all the way down the hill..no lifting except for the upshifts. It meant that I just hit the red line in 5th gear before I had to brake for that horrible right/ left combo at the bottom of the hill.  Maybe my final drive was too low?
That right hander at the bottom of the hill was my nemesis on this track. When I got the braking and downshifts right, it was easy...but that did not happen often enough!. Plus dropping a wheel onto the ( obviously very wet grass!) anywhere before the braking point, did not improve one's chances of successfully negotiating any of those corners. This was usually as a result of looking in the mirror and not concentrating on the road!!!

I think my best lap in offline praccy was a low 1:39, still 3+ secs off the pace of the fast boys. But I made  the mistake of competing in qualifying, and trying too hard instead of aiming to be last on the grid and picking up the pace slowly. I found myself on the grid surrounded by cars and forced to get going or cause a problem  Undecided for those behind me. My biggest problems are still the braking distances and getting the thing pointing the way I want it, when I want it. There almost seems to be a half second delay between applying steering lock and the car actually turning, is that how you guys find it or could it be the way I have the controls set up?

Biggest plus for me was getting the tyre choice right, something that is not an option in GPL. Although I did not complete the whole race I had a steady green for all the laps I did, and it looked like the tyre wear rate would have kept them healthy until the end.

I enjoyed the challenge of something different and will be back for more.

Nice flow to the track but not the best for racing imho. Very difficult to pass unless you wanted to be rude having a lunge into one of the corners. Had a good chase with Clive, but never really had an opportunity to pass until he ran wide allowing me through.

I then made a couple of errors and decided to call it a night as I had a headache after a busy day.

Think I might have to invest in a new wheel soon as my trusty dfgt has developed a bit of a worrying wobble at the centre  Sad

Some of the cars have wooden brakes, some actually stop quite well - Alpine Renault for e.g
I'm not aware of any particular steering delay compared to GPL there are old threads on here
mostly from Matteo Santini about how to set up your wheel, particularly G25/7 if you want to search

I used 184s for tyres on the 275 and even they wore quite a bit before the end.
use the built in tyre guide to see which are harder, generally the furthest left is soft
and right is harder, but ignore the Intermediates and wets, they are from the original GTR2
and are not appropriate for P&G.

That sounds about right, to be honest. Can you feel any body roll happening during this delay? I find it doesn't really start to change direction until it's nicely 'leaned in', so have to work with the roll and get it set up really early for the corners. All part of the fun Grin Might be worth taking something small like the Lotus 7 or the Abarth out for a spin to see if the same thing happens.

Nice to see a new PnG face, by the way thumbup1

Yes John, what you describe is exactly what I felt was happening. Phew! that is a relief!!  Wink

I found that I have to anticipate the corner ahead and turn in ( what seems to be) far too early, allow for the body to roll and the outside tyres begin to grip, then apply the gas through the apex as I unwind the lock to prevent the tail end from slithering around and parking me either on the grass or stuffed into the armco. I found that going down the hill I was aiming at a point some 2mtrs inside the apex of that fast left hander and the natural delay and understeer clipped the rumble strip and took me through the corner on full welly.

All this PnG is new to me so I have only tried the cars for last nights race and have just done a few laps around that exacting circuit, Specific Raceways, in the Cobra. Incidentally I found the Cobra more responsive on the front end than either the E-type or the Fez 275 was.

BTW I am used to brake balances of around 50/50 in GPL, what are you guys using?

Yes to the preemting the turn in, some cars more than others. The Jag and the Big Yanks are very much that way
the smaller cars tend to turn in quicker. Try an Escort or 911 variant. They should feel somewhat different.

I tend to put the brakes as much to the rear as possible without making it unstable, to help the car turn in. Some cars it gets down towards 50/50 but in most cars it is around 55/45. I think in the Jag I was using 53/47.

Is there a reason why this event is sticky?

Incompetance? no idea, it was messed with so maybe something was set that shouldn't have been?

I assumed that it was because Evil had rustled up a load of newbie questions and the sticky would ensure that the next victim could find them.
