Just before the race, I picked a 911 with Firestone tires, and that was clearly a mistake. I had a little more grip, but unlike the Dunlop mediums, these tires couldn't last a full race . So instead of a possible 4.5 sec pit stop, I spent 25 secs there.
Not necessarily a mistake, Stig. I tried to make it on medium Dunlops without changing, but given the chance again I would have taken the soft Firestones and changed - just like the top three did. If I hadn't run out of fuel I'd have probably been able to finish in P3 just in front of Giuseppe, but it still would have been a long way behind Otto. If a pitstop wasn't enforced then it would have been a lot closer on meds not changing, but when we have to stop it makes sense to go with the softs. Hindsight is a wonderful thing... I'm away next week, have fun on the mountain everyone

Unofficial LapChartLol EvilClive So that was the round dented object I had to evade during my late pitstop. But what's with the little pink flowers? Nice steady race after some lesser steady races. Nice view on the smoking Porsches. No wonder the tyres wouldn't last. I could do a full endurance on my Dunlops..

@Evil, Since I moved away from good old GPL I had sort of lost sight of you. I am so glad we meet again here at P&G. Keep them coming your race reports, please. I can't tell you how much I enjoy them. Though not everyone seems to agree SBRC are a great team. And we even have two witty Clives now! - Did I say two ?? On a side note. Last week I removed Grand Prix Legends from my Pc. It had been there since the day it first came out and I bought it (1998?). Couldn't help becoming a bit emotional and I am still not sure if I did the right thing. Ah well.... Ready for the next race and your report (and a pint and good cigar).... Cheers, (Senior)Dan

EvilClive is also a welcome addition to the Monday night GTL grids and very well he's doing too. Still room for a few more old GPL'ers

Cheers, (Senior)Dan Good to see that you are still sim racing Dan, you were always a gentleman on the track in GPL and great fun to race against. It seems you are a bit too quick for me here, and all I see is your tailpipes vanishing into the distance. But race by race, those distant tailpipes are getting bigger I find GTL and PnG fun in a different way so far, they are enjoyable and I am having to adapt to the differences of the cars and the physics...but it is definitely fun To be honest, I may have taken on too much too soon with all the new stuff in PnG and GTL....so many cars and new tracks......new physics...setups etc. that all seem strange to me. Now I discover that although I thought that the 4 Porsche 911 3.0ltr options listed just had different paint schemes, but were the same car underneath...oh no! they are all actually different cars and perform differently!! How sneaky is that??!! For me, GPL is still the biggest challenge, although I have only been using it since 1999, I have promised myself that one day if I get good at it, then I might retire: .

Same cars with bhp and torque specs Clive, just 3 different tyre brands available. I thought the aliens would be driving the '76 Goodyear shod car personally, surprised to hear a Firestone one has more grip Didn't think I could get softs to last with the heavier 2x fuel load so opted for mediums on my 911 but it cost me in race lap pace compared to qually where I was always just 3/10ths behind Geoffers.

I used the mediums in the race too Mark, didn't change them just topped up with fuel at the pitstop. I wasn't much faster with the soft tyres, guess I needed more setup changes to make the most of them. Although they seemed better out of the corners they felt less stable into the corners & I wasn't able to attack the corners as much. Still I was well pleased with my race, much better than the last time in the 3.0RSR at Suzuka where I struggled to get in the top 15. Not all of the 3.0RSRs have the same power, there are 2 or 3 that have an extra 9bhp, but I think the tyres make more difference.

Didn't even know that! Sure I flicked through most of them once without seeing any different specs learn something new everyday! I always pick the ones I like the look of or are most iconic

Really don`t know what happened. After finish line i saw checkered flag in my upper left corner (i know what that means) but no more timing for cars in front/behind so I stopped and hit esc thinking that I lost connection again ... but that was not the case and, looking on the bright side, finally finished the race without disco ...
About tires - not completely accurate. Soft Firestones are fastest comparing to other softs, but situation is different for meds and hards. The best meds are Goodyears and the best hards are Dunlops.

Not all of the 3.0RSRs have the same power, there are 2 or 3 that have an extra 9bhp, but I think the tyres make more difference. I have no reason to doubt those who have years more experience than me about these things. it seems that even Mark was unaware of the differences? But, I was curious and idly wondering about this. If we are talking a couple of tenths per lap difference between various cars, is that really an accurate and objective assessment? 2 or 3 secs a lap would be a clear demonstration of one car's superiority over another, but a couple of tenths?? Yes, I can understand that, in theory at least, an extra 9bhp should make a difference and I can see how tyres that offer up more grip would improve things. But even aliens would expect to see lap times vary by a couple of tenths from lap to lap in the same car, otherwise this would be a VERY boring Sim!! Without knowing enough about the cars here I guess I am just playing devil's advocate.. and I wonder if the physics of these cars gives one 9bhp more and another 0.001% better handling, just to even things out. So that it is all about how that car is driven that determines if you get better lap times in one or the other? Just my brain cell struggling to understand things around here

It is confusing now with two Clives ... Ah, but are there really two Clives or is it just the next stage of Clive's plan for world domination? Very soon we will all have to change our name to Clive, or suffer the consequences!
