Moderator's Report

Only one incident of note in the Red Zone but it is T1 and affects about half the field!

Server replay time: 0h01m03s

Martin has made a storming start and is lining up for the first corner. Ahead, George is being cautious into Crowthorne which is understandable with a packed field and a tight line in your first online race.

Behind maddog has had a rabid attack and realises too late he is not going to stop in time and makes strenuous efforts to fall on his own sword. He misses and takes George out instead.

Martin is experienced enough to know that full blast on cold tyres and full tanks into a tightening T1 is not a recipe for Angel Food Cake!

Rules have this: "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter had lost control on the approach to the braking zone and consequently braked later than intended." This is not a perfect fit as Martin just braked too late. The alternative is this: "The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control." This is somewhere in between. I am minded to go with the lesser penalty as Red Zone attracts an additional one place penalty.

Behind mayhem is unleashed as various drivers react too well or too late or not at all.

It is ALWAYS worth being cautious into T1. There is OFTEN a crash midfield.

One last incident of note is that Adam turns into Billy slightly who has had to avoid Martin's spinning car. Adam would have been better advised to stay wide and take a slow line.

In the event of an incident ahead hold a line - stay wide or stay tight but try not to take a racing line.

Walter, Pierre and Gareth are caught up.

Server replay time: 0h01m14s

Mike gets a wheel on the grass exiting T2 and spins across the track. He miraculously avoids everybody.

Always take care when rejoining, especially when you have to join the racing line. Michael does so.

Server replay time: 0h10m34s

Martin runs very wide on the exit of the Jukskei Sweep and makes heavy contact with the banking. He throws up a lot of dust and slows appreciably. Badblood is several car lengths back and he can see the dust but doesn't back off. Martin bounces back onto the racing line and as the visibility clears Badblood has no time to take avoiding action and contact is made.

Having made the mistake, ideally Martin should have stayed on the grass until he was able to rejoin the track off the racing line. However he had to fight hard to maintain control of the car and the fact that it bounced back onto the racing line was unfortunate.

Badblood could see the dust flying and whilst he was not shown any yellow flags he should have been prepared to back off a little to give himself some room for manoeuvre. Having said that cars regularly kick up dust at this point and it wasn't obvious until it was too late that Martin had slowed quite as much as he had.

Neither driver can be held responsible for this incident but if Badblood had backed off slightly he would have probably given himself enough space drive around Martin and make a clean pass.

Season 26 Privateers Trophy, Race 1 Kyalami

Welcome to the 26th Season of UKGPL and this Privateers trophy.

We start in South Africa and Kyalami. Classic track, long time home of formula 1 in the Southern hemisphere.

The original, sweeping circuit was in use from 1961 until political sanctions eliminated the Grand Prix after the 1985 race. A very quick circuit, it yielded some memorable races. Gilles Villeneuve outfoxed team mate and home driver Jody Scheckter in a wet/dry race in 1979, and Alain Prost raced from the back to win in 1982. By the time the circuit held its last Grand Prix in its original incarnation cars were lapping the track in 1m 02s – 20 seconds faster than in 1967, a lap time in the 1m 02s might not quite be obtainable.

We will run Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

*** NOTE***
As we are at Kyalami, you must ensure that you have the Pit Wall IN PLACE.. Those without the pit wall will risk disqualification. Advantage can be gained without it and in particular, drivers should ensure that they know where the pit entry is WITH THE PIT WALL IN PLACE

The standard Papyrus track has a pit wall but there are patches available that remove it. The absence of a pit wall will not stop you from joining the race but anybody seen by the moderators miraculously driving through the pit wall on the server replay will risk disqualification.

Follow these instructions to restore the wall if you have a mod that has removed it:
METHOD 1:
To place a wall between the pits and the track, rename or remove the kyalami.trk and kyalami.3do files from your kyalami folder.
METHOD 2:
To reinstall the original Papyrus Armco, rename or remove the Armco_s.mip file from your kyalami folder.

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Leeukop bend. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Privateers standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

I think that I have Jack Seller's track update at http://www.f1legends.ch/update/update.php.

It has the pit wall so hopefully I am ready.

Another newbie question, if the grid is not full, do the reserve drivers still have to leave for 5mins after the first 30mins of practice?

Won't be a problem - there are currently only 13 drivers signed up for this series.

No not this season (unless we get a last minute rush of registrations).  We don't have enough Full Time and Reserve drivers to make up a full grid so there is no need for reserve drivers to leave the grid.  The only time this is necessary is if there are more than 19 Full and Reserve drivers registered.  On the assumption that Reserve drivers will not be challenging for the championship, we want to avoid the situation where a Full Time driver who is challenging for the championship can't get on the server.

For the first round you can pick any car you want as you will have 10 tokens for the season start and 10 tokens for the race start.  But bear in mind if you take the Lotus you will be left with zero tokens and hence only have a maximum of 10 tokens for the next race (i.e. the start money).  You can have any car you want provided you have the tokens to pay for it.

By the way, welcome to UKGPL!!

Thanks for all the replies and the welcome gents. One last one regarding the red zone, is this is a no overtaking area?

no. its any incident in the red zone will be modded on, regardless if someone put in a report or not. only reported incidents get modded for the rest of the race.
also ignore yellow flags in respect of overtaking.

Welcome aboard Smiley

ABOUT THE FLAGS, please see the UKGPL sporting regulations page

Yellow and green flags

Drivers have a duty to drive safely and well within their limits when they have passed a yellow flag. Stay on the racing line unless it is blocked. Drivers may not overtake any car they are racing with, until they are sure they have passed a green flag or they are sure they have passed the incident and the green flag has been taken in. (Sometimes a yellow flag is shown when a car loses and then quickly regains control, so the green flag may be gone by the time the driver passes the next marshall).

Shaping up to be a nice race when Phil warped in front of me and I overbraked. That put me just about last and racing with Pierre and Martin.

Got Pierre after some laps (it was tough to get by but tow helps!) then Martin went off and emerged out of the dust right in front of me... sorry Mr Hunt. After a reset, hunted down Pierre again after letting a million by and being passed bravely by the new boy - nice one Mr. Cheeseman - and just as it was getting tasty, blew my engine.

Fun race though and nice to see a full grid.

Going to be a tough season to score points though...

Well, that was an experience of sorts! Sort of enjoyed it, I do like the intense concentration required for that number of laps. I hope I didn't get in anybody's way. There was a BRM behind me (myself driving a BRM) and I couldn't work out whether it was lapping me or racing me so I'm sorry to the driver if I held you up.

I was steadily braking into Crowthorne at the start having started from a flukey 7th place on the grid but then before I knew it, I was in the fence! Looks like all hell broke loose behind me. Smiley

I untangle myself from the Honda and got going but came across an accident heading into clubhouse. Chose to go to the wrong side due to latency issues and ended up in the fence with broken suspension so Shift-R. After that, I was confused whether I had to stop and go in the pits or not but did so after a lap but by that time I was miles behind. I decided to stick with it anyway and sort of enjoyed lapping around.

Thanks.

Sorry, that was not the kind of impression that I wanted to make in my first privateers race.  Embarrassed I am also sorry to Gareth for the shunt into turn one. I had to shift-R to fix the steering. I did my stop & go. I might have gotten nervous when the leader came by to lap me, and I went wide into turn 2. The accident left me with only three wheels so race over.  :'( I'm looking forward to the next race. I'll try to be more careful next time.  Smiley

Good race to start a new season. It is a good place with many spots to let people pass you. I wonder why it's always been an important factor in my evaluation of a track  Wink.

Unfortunately, I faced twice a situation I've never had in 4 years of racing online: My screen went black twice, the first time after a turn and the second time in the middle of the straight. Both times, I was positive it was over for me,  I tried to leave the track in style , hit a fence, got the screen back and  returned to the track as if nothing had happened !  I can tell you that my experience in the tanks during my time in the armor a long time ago tells me this Ferrari did better than quite a few light armored vehicles  Shocked

If any of you has an idea about the reason for black outs like that, I would welcome any advice .  I don't have a screen saver as far as I know (I don't want to say "as far as I can see"  laugh )

I'm looking forward to Snetterton. I don't know the circuit but I like what I've seen of it.

Hey, Paul, I've just noticed !   Considering it is the first race under the 50% completion rule, you are showing a real aptitude for energy saving !  Grin

.... having started from a flukey 7th place on the grid ....
There was nothing flukey about your qually position, you bettered that time by almost a second in the race!

Yes you were right to do a S&G.  You've learnt the first lesson, in order to do well you have to stay out of trouble.  Your own and everyone else's.  Once you drop back it is very hard to catch up.
