Moderator's Report

Only one incident of note but if we must have an incident let us make it a BIG one <sigh>

Please note that I did ask drivers for their views of the incident but only got three replies. Client replays can be illuminating and helpful if you have them.

Server replay time: 0h00m54s

Natan is pushing hard for the corner and rear ends Jethro. What saves him is evidence of massive warp. The much varying pace and position of Mr Walters car makes heavy contact unavoidable. He could have been less gung ho which might have meant that a crash could be avoided.

From then on it is mayhem with some drivers managing to stop and others not. Drivers MUST be prepared for incidents and whilst no one is particularly to blame there is some poor car control here.

Going hell for leather for T1 is not what is expected of a Pro level event. Nobody gets penalised this time but I expect better next time. Please be aware that warp is VERY likely on lap 1 and especially off the start line.

Server replay time: 0h01m04s

Dean is unlucky to get launched skyward and end up facing the wrong way and off the track. He tries to execute a spin turn but Jethro is in the space he needs and the luckless Mr Walters is once again biffed.

This comes under bad rejoin territory. Dean is unlucky to get singled out but this was after the main crash and was avoidable. We will draw a veil over the nudges he gives to Norm as they both get going.

The rules have this "The rejoining driver drove straight back onto the track, but not the racing line, without checking for other cars and contact was made." which would normally attract a two place penalty. Due to the circumstances I have ameliorated the penalty to one place but as this in the Red Zone it does get a further place.

I have been musing over obtaining a second-hand server and installing a Windows Server 2003 instance + GPL + tracks on it and installing it in a rack at work (10Mb leased line connection).

Thoughts?

Exactly what UKGPL3 is (except it wasn't second hand. HP Microserver - unbelievable value for money. Windows Server - terrible VFM!

The main problem a server has is several clients with a bad connection in a short distance!

The main problem a server has is several clients with a bad connection in a short distance!

That's why I use the 2/384 2/84 BW settings to have more input for the server. (every 2 frames instead of 3 frames)
My server runs this with a full grid of Gt's at LeMans without problems...

Maybe only a restriction in IGOR to limit the latency: "enforce maximum latency" set to a lower value, would help, but it would exclude some drivers...

Whilst latency was high (at least on my end) at the beginning of the race, it was not a significant factor in the start-line collision, I have just witnessed the replay and seen exactly what happened. As I was involved in the mêlée I have submitted my report accordingly.

Please don't second guess the Mod report - there is very clear evidence of warp at the start.

and I second, not second guessing about the warp. Your client replay may have been OK Jethro, but I definitely suffered from some interweb anomolies off the grid and was kicked off the server, so the gremlins were active somewhere.

Warp's a pain in the rear-end-stepped-out.

Natan would have had the book thrown at him had he not had a major warp to fall back on. All the rest was reactions. The rejoin incident with Jethro was eminently avoidable - the 'punishment' is to encourage you to not do it again Wink.

If you feel that you have been singled out unfairly then spend an hour and a half looking at each incident separately from several POVs and then tell me what conclusions you have come to.  Cheesy

Is that level of dedication sustainable? If not, then you could make the offseason break longer.  You could have the summer season consist of only fun races.

I really enjoy the league the way it is, and I don't want a change. However, you should probably take steps to prevent burnout before it happens.

Sorry, I know that all of my suggestions are not very good.
