Moderator's Report

lap 2 at Lesmo 1 several cars are involved when Martin gets sideways and Mark tries to take avoiding action. Although there were a lot of people involved and some reports were submitted, I think this has to be a racing incident which collected a lot of innocent bystanders.

  • Racing incident

Lap 2 at Parabolica.
Fabio rejoins after a trip into the gravel where he unfortunately gets hit by other cars who have entered Parabolica too quickly. When he eventually gets back onto the tarmac he is naturally slow in getting away and Fran comes around the corner and sees an opportunity to pass on the outside. There is just about room, but Fabio allows his car to drift out and contact is made that causes Fran to spin.
In this case I am issuing a caution to Fabio to take more care when re-joining and to be sure to keep to his side of the tarmac and leave room for faster cars.

Caution for Fabio

At the start of lap 7 Paul closes on Fran as they cross the S/F line and uses the draft to make a pass.
I have looked at this over and over and it is marginal, but I cannot fault Fran as he keeps his car on a straight course and maintains the same gap to the grass verge.
Paul's speed carries him past Fran but before he has clear air between them he drifts across towards Fran and contact is made.
This happens at the point where the track narrows on Paul's side and I suspect he subconciously eased to his left as the barrier got closer, whereas Fran had a steady point of reference in the grass to the left side of the tarmac.

Simple side by side 1 place lost

Moderator's Report

After last season I was expecting a similarly quiet workload in season 24, how wrong can one get???!!

Server replay time: 0

In the Lap 1 red zone there were a couple of incidents.
Off the grid Ronnie gets a tank slapper going and sideswipes Fabio before parking his car sideways in front of the on rushing cars from the back of the grid.
Clive attempts to squeeze past the nose of Ronnie's car but succeeds only in clipping the nose and spinning his own car. paul sees the carnage and backs off, but catches Dave unawares who promptly punts Paul's car into a spin before attempting to vault the armco.

All of this action stems from Ronnie's over exuberant right foot off the line and as it falls in the red zone he gets a penalty

Server replay time: 0

Again on lap 1, axel leads into Curve Grande with mark in hot pursuit, Axel has a clear advantage and takes the racing line into CG, but slows rather more than Mark anticipated. Mark rear ends Axel, spinning him into the armco

  • Mark Jones — simple rear end — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 0

Ronnie passes the stricken Axel and promptly loses the rear end (yet again) on the exit of CG causing him to take out some very expensive signage and bounce off the fencing before coming to a halt dead centre of the track.
This parked car causes following cars to trip over themselves and spin.

Although Ronnie's car parked in the middle of the circuit is an obvious hazard, he did not place it there deliberately. If he had tried to move off I think there would have been grounds for a penalty, but by staying still he did give the following cars the least bad option of simply driving around him if they could.

Racing Incident

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0

Lap 6 Curve Grande and Andy who has been tailing Fran for several laps thinks he sees a chance to get inside Fran under braking. Andy never achieves an overlap and sideswipes Fran.

Server replay time: 0

After their exchange of paint samples at CG, Andy is again following Fran through the Lesmo corners where Fran is extremely cautious. Andy sees Fran run wide of the apex at lesmo 2 and guns his Ferrari through a tighter line against the kerb to take Fran on the exit. Unfortunately Fran chooses this moment to oversteer slightly and effectively closes the gap that Andy was aiming for just enough to cause contact. Fran was clearly in front at all times and had the right to whatever line he wished to take.

I am calling this a racing incident because the gap was most definitely there and Fran's line would be expected to take him even wider had he not lost the rear end slightly.

I don't use Pribluda, as it wasn't available in 1967, and suggest you switch it off.

Possibly true.  However,  I expect the mirrors (however proxy!) were able to show more than 1-2 cars behind at once...
(Although it's rare for me to have that many cars behind, as they're usually ahead of me!)

Having said that,  I seem to find prib just lies quite often.

Prologue:
During the afternoon, windows showed me again that there was something to update in my computer. I didn't want to agree to this update because I didn't know how GPL would behave with it so I continuously refused to accept it until 2 hours from the race when I pressef OK without pay much attention to what I was doing and the story has begun...
What the damn 40 updates have lasted I don't know but, when we were in pre race chat I've told to Axel that I was especting windows to complete the download and installation of the update before to enter the server for start the practice but...at 5 minutes from the end of the practice, I still had 2 updates to download and install !!! Bastard update...I decided to enter the server anyway otherwise I could loose all the race, but I knew that I could have had a popup window showing up just in the middle of my race with obvious results. In any case I've taken a decision in a few seconds and...I raced anyway and so on...

GT:
At this point I only had 5 minutes to try a clean lap and with my Peronal Best near 1:30.00 made yesterday in a stint, I thought I could be competitive, but one thing is a stint and a completely different stuff is a race. Infact amongst mistakes and the other cars, I have not been able to be near my Personal Best laptime and so I started from the 6th place on the start grid. No problem, I knew my car had a good setup and I kept calm (and I was right).

A race is a question of preparation and..."fortune", so this time and I don't know why, I kept the center lane immediately after the green flag and it was the right choice because I left all the problems behind me (and I've seen they have been a lot). So the 1st lap has gone smoothly but already at the 2nd lap the things have changed in bad, because at Lesmo1 somebody has lost the back, hitting the armco and bouncing in the middle of the track involving other cars in the incident. Since Axel and Martin were the leaders, they definately escaped while the 3nd, 4rd and 5th have made a heap. I was the 6th and I had almost to stop my car to avoid the cars that were spreaded in track.

Anyway I retook the race from the 3rd place while Axel and Martin were far away on the horizon  Tongue. Near mid race, I caught up Martin in his Chap 2F , but the next lap while I was preparing for T1R...ZAP...and the damn window has popped up like I said before while the race screen has disappeared. Instintively I have left the throttle and pressed on the brake pedal turning the drive wheel on the right thinking that at this point my car already have had a huge crash on the armco and so I pressed the left button on the mouse and...wow the race screen reappeared again while I was slipping on the armco at Curva Grande. Damn...I waited the drive wheel to become effective again retaking the race again from the 3rd place and trying to feel any possible problem on my damaged car.
Fortunately for me, my car must have had only little problems because its speed was good and agility when cornering not bad.
Since this point on my race has been oriented to turn at best as I could and doing so I caught up Martin again just at the entry point of Parabolica  and at finish I have been in 2nd place !  Wink

CanAm:
I had a very good Personal Best here also but like in GT I have not been able to get closer to it.
Just after the green flag I figured out to follow the 2 leaders Mark and Axel trying to discover how could I attack each one, but at Curva Grande Mark launched Axel in the space with a little touch beside so I have got a gift, the 2nd place. Mark was a little wobbling during the initial 2 laps so during one of his slowing down I reached his slipstream and I passed him before Curva Grande at lap 3 and from this point on, it was a lone riding watching on pribluda for the gaps of Mark and Dean until the last 2 laps. Without any reason my car has become difficult to drive at the point that during the last lap, just before crossing the finish line, my car has steered to the right, while I was attempting to maintain it straight turning the drive wheel on the opposite side. When I have seen nothing was happening, I braked hard, but this not avoided me to hit the armco at right side of track. I had to reset hoping that car could return drivable and...so it was but in the meantime Dean Logan was very fast and closer from 1 Km away. It seemed to me that he was very carefull close to me and don't know why, but I had not the time to figure out what was passing in his head and I only tried to keep my 1st place.
Mission accomplished !

See you at Lime rock !

The Canams were tidy until lap1 Parabolica where a number of us played in the sand having our own incidents. I recovered behind Fran who was very fast on the straights and very slow and wobbly in the corners. After a number of close shaves where it seemed to me that the door was open for a pass and then shut again, I was up the inside in CG with Fran wide, but he cut back across and I had to reset. A few laps later he was wide in and out of Lesmo2, so I went for the inside and he came back across again. In both cases I hadn't come alongside, but Fran if you had kept your line we would have been ok. As the following driver it's all my fault and if it was real life we would be dead, so I'm very sorry about that. A little later I blew the engine and requiring a second reset now knowing the rules, I retired rather than get a DQ again.

Yes i was a little in trouble into the curves with the Canam compared to others but also in the streight.
The Lola 260 gain speed at the end of the streight ,in the first part seem that the Ferrari have more acceleration. An error can happen during the race but the second at Lesmo, immediately after the first.........perhaps was better to be more careful.

 Smiley
Thx for nice setup Cookie. Helps a lot ,could improve my lap time to 1-32-41.

Well, tyre pressure after 11laps very close to optimum : (should be 32psi or 220,8kpa )
LF  32,34psi or 223kpa
RF  33,79psi or 233kpa

LR  33,50psi or 231kpa
RR  32,48psi or 224kpa

BUT tyre temps still bit too far off optimum ( should be 261F°  or 127,2C° )

LF 224,6°F  244,4°F   224,6°F   107°C  118°C  107°C
RF 253,4°F  267,8°F  255,2°F           123°C  131°C  124°C

LR 219,2°F  233,6°F  217,4°F       104°C  112°C  103°C
RR 201,2°F  210,2°F  199,4°F              94°C    99°C   93°C

However, as its said optimum hot pressure is most important to have best grip , I am fine with.

BUT trouble to me is that pribluda  indicates an optimum tyre temp range from :
132,8°F up to 280,4°F         56°C up to 138°C

Something wrong with my pribluda? Or maybe ist just because pribluda cant handle cgt.exe.
Note the time pribluda was written GTmod wasn’t out.

Edit-1. Maybe useful to put my silly questions into an special thread , rather then crowding these thread here…

Edit-2    saying I don’t much like the GT`s brake behaviour , I wasn’t talking about that specific GTmod brake issue. Actually had forgotten it exists.lol.

Just seen the moderation for the Can Am race. I'm pretty sure I would have apologised on the night but just in case, sorry to Fabio and anyone else caught out by my start. Rather than over exuberance on the throttle pedal on my part I wonder if it had more to do with the std gearing I used rather than the longer 1st/2nd gears favoured by many at Monza. Regardless sorry again.
