Moderator's Report

No incident during red zone.

One incident reported several times (by several drivers) at the begin of the second lap.

Arf Arf Arf loose control at the begin of the long straight, there were several direct victims... and several undirect victims rear ended by slow reaction drivers or not enough cautious drivers !

Server replay time: 0h03m25s

Jethro Walters was coming really quick and doing slalom between accidented or slow cars.
He also took a quick and dangerous start at Le Mans
but in Porto, he couldn't see any yellow flag and when he was at the start of the long straight the flag was green

Server replay time: 0h03m25s

Francesco Molteni rear ended Bernie's car :

at the start of the long straight Francesco could see the yellow flag and at this moment he was driving at 89km-h
But still under yellow flag, he was continuing to push the throttle until 145 km-h ...only at this moment he started to brake but it was too late and he rear ended Bernie Darwin !

Definition of Marginal Lack of Care :
The yellow flags were clearly visible. The approaching driver was unsighted because of circuit topography, other cars or bandwidth limitations (i.e. number of cars that are visible). The cars from the incident were moving or would clearly need to reset to continue. The approaching driver slowed down but contact was made with the cars from the incident.

The third round of the season 26 Historics championship (mod66) will be at PORTO.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

Porto with pro damage? Srsly?

Train tracks, telephone poles, hidden bumps, slippery, no, GREASY curbs, constantly changing track surface, all surrounded by sticky magnetic haybales.

If I was a religious man...  Wink

edit: I vote for extending red zone to two full laps. Opinions?

I don't think it is a more difficult track than Borovaya, Ahvenisto, Bathurst ...
As usual, it depends of the racers !

I can remember we already race here in the past. It was in mod65 if I'm not mistaken.
...and there was a huge crash at the end of the long straight just after the first corner !

so please, if you don't know this track, make several tries to know exactly where to brake (with full tank, cold tyres...) and do not change your line if you are side by side with another car (even if you cant see it in your mirrors).

You can count of me to be a very severe moderator with the guilty driver ...even if one or two of them thinks it is useless to give penalties  Roll Eyes

By the way, I will (try to) start a training server tonight around 8.00 PM (UK time)

As one of the early retirees having looked at the replay I can only say I have to laugh and move on. Good luck to those still running in particular Martin who threaded his way through. Better luck next time to all who are out.

No luck here Ronnie!  During praccy I discovered my car was possessed by a Demon.  On full tanks, it required plenty of exorcizing, before being quelled.  I decided to take a casual race approach.  I could already predict, someone would get hobbled, while the pack was getting cobbled.

No surprise when Ronnie and two, were quickly nobbled by a silly mistake ahead, which I survived.  But the casual approach caused me a silly 10mph mistake, at the tight left, whose padding had earlier seemed harmless.  After somehow just surviving the previous mayhem, it was the last straw!  I suggest severe penalties for all such disharmonious lumps.  Lock them up without bale! Well that was a decent result for me given my stupid mistake at the start.

Before the race I needed a toilet break but I didn't realise the practice was almost finished.  When I got back on my computer the green button was off and then it appeared so I clicked it expecting to be on the grid and found myself in the pit lane.  It took another 15 seconds or so for me to realize I'd missed the start!

After that it was a game of cat and mouse.  I pushed as hard as I could to catch up but there was no way I was going to pull back the 1.5 miles I'd lost.  I put in some laps that were much faster than my qually time (I was pleased with that) but the only places I made up were because other drivers crashed.   Fourth in the end was a good result, before the race I'd have settled for that with a good start!

Grats, Clive!  Great drive.

I mis-counted my VW Micro Vans on the run into T3.  Missed my braking point by, oh, say 100m.  'nuff said.

Grats, Clive!  Great drive.

I mis-counted my VW Micro Vans on the run into T3.  Missed my braking point by, oh, say 100m.  'nuff said.

Thanks Doni, and yes I almost made that same mistake a couple of times during the race when my mind went AWOL. I was looking for the blue VW on the right as a warning point and OK for a safe braking marker and that the next green van was my limit and to be used ONLY if things were getting desperate. lol

grats to Tristan, Axel and Phil for making it to the finish on a track which I always see as a high speed Monaco, there is nowhere to make a mistake and not hit something hard. Even the haybales are sticky concrete!!!

A very strange evening for me, I was so tired after work that slumped in my armchair watching TV I contemplated a DNS for this one. Eventually I joined Igor with about 25mins left in qually, but which car to use? I had done zero practice for this race as I knew the track quite well. I could take my old favourite the Brabham BRM, but the history of this race suggested a lot of incidents that usually involve multiple innocent bystanders, so I figured why not try something else and run from the back of the grid hoping to pick up some places? So I chose the BRM V8 2 ltr when I noticed that most people had opted for the 2.7 Brabham, I was always a rebel at heart! lol

Fuelled the BRM for the race as I usually do, tweaked the default setup to more familiar values and went out for a couple of feeler laps. Posted a 5th place I think on my 1st flyer, which was very surprising although the car felt OK I had to make a couple of adjustments in the pits to corect some oversteer.  Another few laps and I just hooked up a very smooth run that really did not feel fast, but posted a PB at this track......hmmmm  pole position  Roll Eyes
I was amazed that Tristan did not do his usual last minute banzai lap and take the pole position, in fact I was hoping that he would because leading into the straight for the 1st lap meant I was a sitting duck for a slipstream pass  Undecided
I'm not really sure how I stayed ahead of Tris for the 1st lap as he definitely had  my slipstream, but perhaps he was just waiting Huh shifty shifty shifty shifty

I remembered that there was more than one route through the haybales on the final turn and one of those allowed me to carry a few extra KPH onto the S/F straight, but it did require me to thread a needle with the BRM which was sliding on that cobbled surface at ridiculous speed. I used this on the first laps when the car was heavy because it opened up the corner and  although risky was a softer line. I think it was on lap 2 or 3 that Tris suddenly vanished from my mirrors at this point and suddenly I was 500mtrs ahead  Shocked.

The rest of the race was a case of managing the gap back to Tristan. I could afford to play at 95% pace and avoid any risky moves and still hold the gap. I figured that it was Tris who would have to push hard if he wanted to catch me and just concentrated on getting my braking and apexes smooth. It was quite a lonely race after that and because so many DNF's I did not even see a backmarker.

So, after almost not turning up for this race, and choosing a car with no setup or practice it turned out to be quite profitable for points  Wink One just never knows what will happen in GPL ......
