Dean runs into the rear of David's car as he brakes for the hairpin. It is early in the race and it cannot be said that David braked any earlier than he normally would have as too few laps have been completed.

This is a simple rear end shunt where Dean was caught out by the braking of the car in front.

Penalty for Dean Simple rear end Shunt

Server replay time: 0h03m05s

Lap 5 and Nicky is closing on Fran down the main straight. Fran runs a little deep into the hairpin and has to slow dramatically to avoid the haybales. Nicky spots an opportunity and takes tighter line into the hairpin.

As Nicky starts to accelerate out of the corner Fran has also gathered himself together and is also standing on the gas. For a few crucial seconds just before the contact neither driver can see the other and they both end up trying to claim the same piece of tarmac.

In this instance I can see why Nicky made the move that he did as it looked likely that Fran was going to hit the haybales and he would have a clear passing opportunity. However Fran did get his car stopped and turned quite neatly although he lost a great deal of time to Nicky.
This falls under the ruling about contested pass, where the cars emerge from the corner side by side after a passing attempt is made.
The guidelines are clear about this and say that each driver should keep to his own 50% of the track width.
Fran undoubtedly stayed on his side of the track but unfortunately Nicky's trajectory took him across the centre line and he made contact with Fran's car.

Penalty for Nicky. Contested pass the overtaking driver did not keep to his own side of the track on the exit of the corner

Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h06m27s

Lap 5 and Fran's extra power in the winged Mclaren takes him past Axels's Eagle on the run towards the Esses.
Fran makes a clean pass well before the corner and brakes at his normal point. Axel has switched his car to the inside and brakes much later than Fran. This takes him 99.99% past Fran as they enter the left hander effectively regaining the place he had just lost.
Although this all happened very quickly, there is no doubt that Axel had made the pass under braking and that Fran made the error when he turned in and hit the rear of the Eagle.
Penalty for Fran contested pass where the overtaking car has 100% overlap and contact is made.

Back to the UK for the next races and an old favourite, Snetterton.

The F2's go well here and with the horsepower available to the Lights limited it will require some serious work around the twisty bits.

I cannot recall racing the 69x's around here so that should be a lively race and once again the Lights are going to have to work hard.

A single Shift R is allowed but no SnG is required.

I'll try to make this one as well, should be fun Smiley .

Just a side note but I noticed in my client replay of the 1969 Lime Rock Park race that I could see the entire field (I think there were 17 cars?). I actually prefer it that way, adds to the realism imho, but thought I saw a couple cars warp more than usual, although I'm positive my own warping was limited. Could it be there is a significantly increased strain on client connections with a full grid, so some clients warp more? Not that the warping was that extreme, just something I'd never seen before, all cars in a client replay Smiley .

Once again I suggest to avoid the cars of the lights from the choice of the heavies otherwise these groups have no meaning !

I doubt any Heavy will take an F2 Fez or BT14, or a '69 wingless car though.

Yes Bernie there should be room, just register for the series.
There might be an extra space anyway, as for some incomprehensible reason my wife thinks that I should not be "playing with the computer" on Feb 14th!!???

After I asked her  "wot's so special about this Friday"  I suddenly blacked out and when I came around in Hospital, she said not to worry because the bruising will have faded before Friday.  blink blink

Tommie,
I set the server to 2/384 2/84 to make this possible.
In my early races with UKGPL I had a bad experience with the slower and lower BW settings 3/132 3/84,
when I did a rejoin at Oulton, where I could not see all the cars behind, I was penalized with 2 places that cost me the Nov championship Roll Eyes

Will my settings make a bad clients connection worse?
I don't think so, as these "old" settings were aimed to use with 56kb modems and I presume there is nobody nowadays using this anymore...

IMO the spikes of a warp should be reduced by sending every 2nd frame a signal instead of every 3rd

The issue is not necessarily the 'bad' client, it is the information flow at the server end that might be an issue. If information is lost and the client is trying to update every second frame rather than third there will be more 'prediction' on the client.

The key is the 132 vs 384 which enables you to see more cars. The amount of data in both cases is tiny so 2/384 2/84 should work fine - but it might not . As with all Internet connections the data flow is not guaranteed. Fun eh? Grin

Not the way I understand it. The client is predicting every frame, but uses updated data instead if it's available. Thus, running at a faster (every 2 ticks vs. 3 ticks) rate would yield LESS prediction (because it's only predicting 1/2 the time, instead of 2/3).

If information is lost, the client is predicting 100%, no matter what b/w settings are in place.

But 132 is guaranteed to be worse (or, under the worst possible conditions, equal), so why use it?
