The 5th round of the season 26 Historics championship (mod66) will be in Sweden at ANDERSTORP.
Anderstorp hosted the Swedish Grand Prix six times from 1973 to 1978, Sweden's heyday in Formula One. After the deaths of Ronnie Peterson and Gunnar Nilsson interest was lost and the event was dropped. It did produce some notable winners though, Denny Hulme snatching the win from Peterson on the penultimate lap in 1973, the six-wheeled Tyrrells scoring a 1-2 in 1976 and the Brabham fan car dominating its only race in 1978, in 1977 it was the place of the 1st win of a Ligier and the 1st Grand Prix win for Jacques Laffite .

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

For THIS RACE, 2 liters car must be selected

All drivers have free choice (2 liters cars only) except the 3 leaders due to their thirty point margin over the next driver
Evil Clive and Tristan BOT will be restricted to Group 1 cars :
T1F Eagle Climax  or Lotus 33 Climax

Arf Arf Arf will be restricted to Group 2 cars :
Brabham BT11 2.5lt or Lotus 33 BRM

Wow, good job I checked this thread over my lunchtime sandwich.... Unaccustomed to such elevated positions in the championship as I am, it never occurred to me that I might be limitd in car choice. I spent last night trying and deciding between the Brab BRM and Brab 2.7 (the BRM won that one)....and all that time I should have been concentrating on something ...cra*per...

It pays to read the thread!!

Drivers new to this track, BE WARNED!  It was perhaps my first visit, when I decided to empty my fuel tanks, within sight of the finish line!  This required a visit to the pits, which is a half lap away from the finish line, at this track.  I was still wondering how to get there, to avoid a penalty. after everyone had gone.  Grumble!  Darkness fell, and the Server shutdown.  Or perhaps the other way around?

We've no practice Server ATM, and no S & G's in 1966, but the startline and the pitlane remain, lonely for each other. blink

Dont have this track installed and as per always when I try to download from SMRZ they wont let me in , says wrong password or user name

When I apply for new P/W it says "email sent" but I never get the mail .

Trying  to join with a new user name is no good either as it says this email address is already in use ( of coarse it is you dumbo )

Looks like warp was a major hassle here once the race got under way. I ran as high as 4th, knocking on 2nd, then made a couple of errors, once on the edge of that tricky left by the pits. That put me in the path of others whilst Phil made for the haybales upside-his-'ead. Upon gunning the engine for a spin round the BRM promptly blew itself to bits across Sweden.

That was after we made contact.  I'll submit an incident report with my client reply.  When you get a notification please submit your client replay.  We need replay evidence so we can try to work out what is wrong with T7-2.

Stupid thing was mine didn't register there'd been contact of any sort! Client replay will be sent tomorrow / whenever the incident is reported.

Might I suggest we arrange with T7's assistance a race with people watching the server stats and connection in/out so we have a chance of identifying where this lies?

Well...the fun of beating clive to P2 in qually by 0.05 secs was somewhat spoiled by Lap 1.... everything started smoothly, and I had completely forgotten that we were on T7, the source of recent warp related woes. However, as we exited the longish right hander Tris disappeared completely for 2/3 seconds, but reappeared a comfortable distance ahead of me. As Tris went into the right hander at the end of the long straight he locked his brakes - at the time I thought he'd started flashing again, and I think I overloaded the car with inputs, and went wider than I wanted to. This of course caused a small spin, and Ronnie was too close behind, and commited to the corner, and we touched, and Clive got hit in the process. Apologies gents.

Once Clive and I could right ourselves we got into a nice chase until I lost it at the same corner as above. We made up a significant number of places from incident(s) I didn't see, but sounds like warp played its part again. I should have been able to keep pace with Clive, and maybe even fight for what turned out to be P2, but a couple of moments lost me time, and I never really expected to catch Andreas, who was always just on the edge of the horizon in the last 10/12 laps...

I'd have liked to, for defence purposes (I had several contacts early, most were cars re-appearing in unexpected places Sad ).

But after crawling back up to third following Ronnie's (?) late explosion, I had a screenfreeze starting the final lap  Angry .

Any appealing those?  angel

Well...  That was pathetic.  I've waited to post to read notes from others and they have pretty much confirmed my belief.  WARP was ludicrous!  Dean bunted me off the road in T1 of Lap01 when his Brabham simply jumped to the left fully three feet for a brief mo.  After recovering from the sand pit, I'd just exited the tight hairpin corner and saw Dean off in the weeds to my right.  Suddenly, as I burned down the straight in front of the pits proper, my NET latency bar went into orbit and everyone disappeared for several seconds.  I eased it into the last corner before the main straight when suddenly(again), Dean's image came back and apparently locked wheels with me.  Really sent me into orbit!  Race over.

Not even worth showing up if this is the state of things.  Sad

Kinda burned at Axel for trailing and wrecking me in qualifying.  Why did I bother to post that bit on qualifying etiquette several weeks ago?  Was a waste of time, I guess.  Sad

Grats to Tristan for another win.  I was quite happy with my quali time, although in hindsight had I got in front of Arf I might not have ended up last at the end of Lap 1 !!!  Wink but that is racing as we know it on GPL.

I knew that I had good race pace in the Eaglet and a very stable handling car that should have allowed me to push Tris all the way. But my 3rd place on grid, and a dodgy start allowed Ronnie to squeeze past and dropped me to 4th.
On race fuel I could immediately see where I was quicker than the 2 cars between myself and TB, the problem was I could also see where I suffered on the main straight lol !. I was just beginning to plan where I would pick off Ron and then Arf around the twisty bits as we went down the straight on the 1st lap and entered the braking zone ... . It was at this point that plans were forcibly revised, when Arf ran wide and squirted back onto the track clipping Ronnie and effectively giving me so many targets that I could not miss them!!! The contact left me facing the wrong way on the inside grass and I had to wait for the whole field to pass before getting under way...  Sad. By this time Tristan was out of sight by a good half a lap!!

I rejoined behind Arf and we chased after the pack and passed a few cars as we worked our way back towards the front.

As long as we were making good progress I was happy for Arf to make the pace and found that I could easily close up the gap to Arf whenever I was momentarily held up behind cars that we passed. Eventually we got up to about 5th and 6th places and I decided that I needed to pass Arf and chase after the podium spots.....so I started applying pressure.  Grin

A couple of times I got alongside but had to yield the place back to Arf. I hope I always gave you enough room Arf, as I was enjoying a great battle.

Eventually I got the corner onto the straight absolutely nailed and was on his gearbox and in the draft. I already knew that I could brake later than him for that right hander and pushed deep down the outside, only to see Arf fly past me as I applied max anchorage  Shocked.......but he missed the corner and ran wide as I majestically swept underneath him and was away.

Ronnie and Andreas were ahead ( with Tris miles in front!) and a podium spot beckoned. A few laps  of running in clear air proved that I was closing fast on the 2 cars I had a chance of catching. Andreas was first and after I had got 3rd spot my sights were set on Ronnie. The gap came down steadily and soon I was looking to get into his slipstream and make a challenge.
I used the draft and stuck it down the inside at the end of the straight to steal 2nd place, but I knew I would have to build a gap before we got around to the straight again or Ronnie would return the favour!!
However he vanished after about another half lap with a broken engine and I was able to cruise to the flag in 2nd spot protecting the engine.

My fastest lap was only 0.02 secs slower than Tris, so if I had escaped the lap 1 incident I might have been able to give him something to worry about. But things did not work out that way and instead I had a great time chasing back through the field.

The warp from my point of view was VERY bad at times and in the early laps I actually backed out of any moves because cars ahead were leaping from side to side and up and down. Some even clearly drove way off the track and vanished, only to re appear 25 mtrs ahead some 3-4 secs later, so powering out of corners was extremely risky??!!

Absolutely Clive. No probs at all (and I hope I didn't defend unfairly). You have always fought fairly :-)

I was just really disappointed with the way I handled that corner throughout the race. By the end of the race I was braking and downshifting in a completely different way to the qually/race start - think I lost my confidence after the Xth spin there, but not entirely sure what happened...

I can only recall seeing the warp on one lap, don't remember seeing it again...just driving through the remains of others' experiences with it.....I've been sent an incident report invite for Lap 3..Don't actually remember being onvolved in one....will check the replay at the weekend..
