Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h00m58s

Doni & Arf contest a position into T1. Arf is behind but gains some momentum. Arf would have been in Doni's blind spot & Doni did no more than take a normal line. Arf could have conceded the corner & Doni could perhaps have taken a wider line.
Under the rules, the overtaking car had NOT achieved a 50% or greater overlap at the point of turn-in. There was no loss of control by either driver. 1 place penalty for overtaking driver, plus 1 lap 1.
Dean & Marco are unfortunate victims of the aftermath.

Server replay time: 0h02m38s

Doni & Arf contest T1 again on lap 2. This time Arf loses control & Doni can't avoid the sideways car.

Moderator's Report

Red zone is clean,

Server replay time: 0h37m25s

Phil overtakes Roberto T. He brakes late in the corner to complete the move & Phil's rear end gets a bit sideways which appears to distract Roberto. Roberto loses control under braking & crashes out. Phil had completed a clean pass & there was no contact between the cars. Racing incident.

Server replay time: 0h40m10s

Bernie takes a Reset on the final lap. For most tracks it isn't possible to take a Stop & Go on the final lap, so a standard 15 Secs time penalty is applied.

Roberto you have the right to appeal to the Chief Moderator if you are unhappy with the ruling.  But I'm not quite sure what you are unhappy about.  I thought we had a very fair battle for at least a dozen laps.  We were side by side on many occasions but always gave each other room.  I tried hard to work out where to pass you.  The finish straight was not possible; I could always pass you thanks to the power advantage of my Matra but I was always behind over the finish line.  The only possible place was where I passed you on the last lap.  You could have taken a defensive line there, as you did on a few other laps, but you didn't and you presented me with a chance.  Yes, my rear end stepped out a bit but I was on the limit.  After all it was the last lap and we are racing, did you expect me to just give in?  I know you are a much quicker driver than me and without my car advantage I would not have been able to beat you.  But that is the point of the handicapping, it allows drivers of different abilities to compete on equal terms.

Win or loose, a battle like ours is why I play GPL.  What is the point of circulating on my own, even if I am miles ahead of everyone else?  I find that sort of race very boring.  I would much rather have a wheel-to-wheel race regardless of whether I win or loose.  At worst you could say my move was a "block pass" but when was that illegal in any form of motorsport?  If it was you would hardly ever see an overtaking move in MotoGP or World Superbikes.

If you are disputing the statement that you were distracted then fine.  Perhaps it would be more accurate to state you lost control of your car when trying to avoid me once I had passed you.  However that doesn't mean my pass wasn't clean.  I didn't hit you and so my pass was clean.  You should have anticipated my move and made allowances so that you would have been in a better position to keep control your car.  It was as if you were surprised by my move.  You shouldn't have been, you have mirrors.

It is a great pity that after such a great battle you are so negative.  If I was only happy when I win, I'd be the most miserable man in UKGPL.

Dear Phil,
I have nothing against you, our duel was one of the funniest moments of this season, you are witness and we, as far as possible, fought with the utmost respect for the other.
I'm not upset at all about the outcome of moderation, I'm not the judge but the driver, what annoy me are the words used by the moderator.

To report that I might be distracted in this episode after a 10/15 rounds of head to head fight is a unrespectful assessment, completely arbitrary and not relevant, that could instill the suspicion that I was watching girls on the track sides rather than pay the maximum concentration in driving.

This is not true and I want to say it clearly.

Your dispute made me do a recherche about the meaning of the word "distract" and "distratto".
The word seems to have the same origin, but I found a very different understanding in the Italian and English language!

As I am also not native english speaking I often have to use a dictionaire to understand right what is meant.

- "distratto" seems to have a real negative meaning in Italian
BUT
- "distract" seems to have no negative smell!

I don't know where you searched for but I find the same meaning for italian and english, perhaps because all two derivate from latin distractus.

From Treccani online vocabulary
http://www.treccani.it/vocabolario/distratto/
Italian
a. Nell’uso com., di persona che ha la mente rivolta altrove, così da non prestare attenzione a ciò che si dice o si fa intorno a lei o da non rendersi perfettamente conto dei suoi stessi atti

My english translation
a. Common use., the person whose mind is directed elsewhere, so do not pay attention to what you say or do around her or not to become fully aware of his own acts

From Merriam-Webster Learner Dictionary
http://www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/distracted
unable to think about or pay attention to something, unable to concentrate

In german language you commonly use zerstreut or abgelenkt, surely not derivate from latin.

I am using Leo "distratto" and what I get are only negative meaning adjectives.

If I search the English word "distract" I get no negative context.

IMO the meaning was more like "irritare qcn." or "spiazzare qcn." = German "jmdn. aus dem Konzept bringen"

Even though we live in an "united Europe", I think there are still some differences in national mentalities and sensibility Wink

Roberto, Cookie

I've huge respect for your linguistic talents.  I've studied French, German and Latin at school and Italian at night school and I am hopeless. I can't remember any of it.

Roberto, I now understand your position and can appreciate your point of view.  I'm very sure the moderators did not intend to imply any criticism of your racecraft and I think it is an unfortunate consequence of conversing in multiple languages.  I'm sure the moderators will try to phrase things differently in future, but please be assured no defamation was intended.

You also stated "our duel was one of the funniest moments of this season".  Several of our Italian friends use "funniest" in this way to describe having fun or an enjoyable race.  However, funny or funniest implies "comical" rather than "enjoyable".  Another quirk in the English language!

Hope to see you on the track later.  No doubt it will only be on the grid at the start if you are not handicapped by a slow car.  Good luck tonight.
