2014 Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy.

Once again we will run a series of events in tribute to one of our own. Joe Shaw.

Joe died tragically young and every year at Easter we hold a celebration in his honour. A mini series of three 67 races to determine the Memorial Trophy holder. Joe's father, Malcolm has generously created a trophy which is presented to the winner at the Goodwood Revival each year.

For this third running of the memorial we will visit three classic tracks over three nights. An Easter triduum fitting for a racer.

Watkins Glen International, Monza and Silverstone.

All drivers must complete at least 50% of race distance to be classified.

Race List = IGOR

Replays Available here

Driver lists and token rules can be found on the championship standings page

Drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone(s) will be the first four corners on each track. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Joe Shaw Memorial standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings. This is the same token system as in the Works/Privateers trophies.

As an example, Lotus; Brabham; Brabham or Ferrari; Ferrari; Brabham or Eagle; Cooper; Eagle would all be valid selections. Effectively you have 40 tokens to spend.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Hadn't realised there were tokens to this one. Adds a slightly difference strategy to it. 10+10 for the first race, then +5 available for races 2 and 3?

You start with 10 tokens, and then 10 tokens for each racestart, so 40 tokens in total to spread out in 3 races, according to OP Wink Just be sure not to use more than 30 tokens for race1/race2 chassis combination, and collect those last 10 tokens for race 3 Wink.

Good strategy summary!

I've set my server up (UKGPL 9) to cycle one round of each race at Watkins Glen, Monza and Silverstone, but Int Short. Please feel free to connect. Cookie's got his running as well, so a wealth to choose from!

But is open to all or there is a registration?

This series is open and no registration is required. Smiley

I had hoped that I could make this race, but did not get back from the hospital in time, by about  10 mins.

I know that I will miss Saturday's as well for the same reason, but Sunday is a still possible.

Sorry to hear Clive and I missed some more names sadly tonight, but I think the race was very respectable, at least up front...

Ran an early sub5 in quali, but couldn't better it, and Iestyn ran faster lap after lap bettering poletime. Start was difficult, as always at the Glen, and had to give way to Bob in the Esses, but I could pass him again in the Loop on Lap1.

Iestyn already was almost 2s away after that, whole race gap was about 3s, he had the raw pace, and I was slightly more consistant. Towards the end he ran some very fast laptimes, like a 4.66 and I had to settle for P2, even driving as hard as I could within my limits.

Very happy to have such a race for this event, really wanted to win tonight, but accept the fact Rusty Iesty was faster...I gave all I got...we had a nice inlap tribute to Joe as well with Iestyn Smiley

During the race I told myself wanting to finish and do well for Joe, and that helped me for focus...

Congrats Iestyn and Andy, and cya tomorrow Smiley

Do I miss the initial ten tokens since I missed today's race?

Nice job Iestyn, Robert, and Andy! I would have liked to have got in on the action too.

Just got back from work in time to make the start. Grats to the podium of Iestyn, Robert and Andy. But bigger grats to UKGPL for continuing to remember Joe with this three race series.

Unfortunately I am off visiting family over the Easter week end, so, I won't be able to take part to any of the Joe Shaw Memorial races. My laptop is with me, but the wheel is back home...I am sorry about it, as I think it is a brilliant initiative, but very happy to see UKGPL has found a way to keep this running on a regular basis. My warmest wishes of a Happy Easter to Joe's family and to all of you guys who are making these events and the league happening.  Smiley

After having a mild panic with V2 rasterizers and Pribluda, I re-installed GPL with the GPLPS installer, and made it to the server with 4 minutes to go. Dipped under 1:30 to place myself 12th of 13, then made it all worthwhile with a touch on the grass into Ascari. Kinda sums up my day! Best of luck to all, and see you at Silverstone tomorrow!

Difficult to adapt to the Lotus, but was happy with my quali time. Had a good start, but always hairy on cold tires, and Iestyn passed into Parabolica after a few laps, having more pace. He pulled away, however after some laps I was able to keep the gap under 2s giving me some hope, and got better used to the Lotus that I don't run too much...

Sadly Iestyn discoed about halfway, and from there on it was was just keeping it on track. Tried to run fast, and had a problem lapping David towards the end, had to move off the racing line and missed my brake marker into Lesmo 1. Hard into the armco, but luckily for me the car wasn't too bent...was able to nurse the car to the finish...

Very disappointing that Iestyn disconnected, nevertheless good job Doni and Ronnie, and finishers! Wink
