Moderator's Report

Only one incident in the Red Zone and nothing else.

Server replay time: 0h02m01s

Ronnie has been looking for a way through for a few corners and David makes a slight mistake ahead as he over rotates under brakes. Ronnie pushes his car into the gap but David loses a measure of control under braking and the cars make slight contact.

Both drivers could have avoided this - Ronnie by being a bit more patient waiting for a clearer opportunity and David by staying wider once the mistake was made.

The car behind has the onus to make sure that they can make a pass. In this instance both cars contribute to their downfall.

Season 26 Professionals Trophy, Round 7, Nurburgring

Welcome back to the Professionals Trophy for the 1965 Grand Prix cars.

Another well known circuit although it is tough to be familiar with every corner on what feels like a 300 mile track! The 'green hell'. A papy original and a classic that tests man and machine to the absolute limit.

Division Moderator =   Badblood
Race List =   IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = tba
Race date = 29-04-2014
Qualification Time   = ~20:45  UK time -> 30-45 min
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Track = Nurburgring (Papy original)
Variant = 65F1 the 2.02 Release of the 65mod should be used
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = ~50 min -> 6 laps
RED ZONE = From the start to the exit of Flugplatz
Password = see above
Replay = you will get here

Driver lists and series rules can be found on the championship standings page.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. Whilst I would like to moderate the full lap, I only have one life so for this event the red zone will be the first lap up to the exit of Flugplatz.

Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Lap 1 was my best quali time, Lap 2 I was on PR pace, but got traffic, prolly would have been 3rd anyway.

Had an awesome start, because I only use 1st for start here (and that was also a weakness I discovered in the race), and took the lead. Sadly made soon a mistake in sector 1, and both Uli and Tristan could pass me. Uli and Tristan were slightly faster, well Uli by 5s a lap, but still wasn't too far away of Tristan.

Loss of focus, started to think, on Lap 4 meant I wrecked and had to retire. Threw away a podium with an unforced error, disappointing...

Thanks for letting me in on such short notice. It was some good practice.

Congratulations uli, Tristan, and Dean!

That was my first time at the Ring in a 65 car. I forgot to copy my setups to the new hard drive so I only had one setup to select in GPL, Edmonton?!? I raised the ride height .5 in and one click on the differential. Smiley That got me to the end but that sure was a lousy gear set. I kept thinking the engine was going to blow on the long straight or after Antoniusbuche. The handling was decent but the car understeered heavily in a few places.

I had good race going with Doni but every time I tried to get away from him I'd take a ride on the bank after Flugplatz. After the second time I did that, it was sad that when I got to Aremberg, Doni's car is sitting perpendicular to the track with debris all over the place. Sad

Take care guys. I hope to see you at Solitude.

Was too late to race, would have been nice to join in here. Did a lap in the Lotus 33 almost a month ago to complete my 65 rank - low 8:20s, so perhaps I could have competed. But Uli's time looks too far ahead!  Cool

Happy to qualify 4th. Hit a bump part way through the first lap and extracated myself from the leading group :-(

Clive and Cookie must have had an incident earlier than I, as I recovered behind them, and was finding it easy to catch them, even though my incident had affected my handling - I guess they were slowing each other down fighting for position. Eventually Clive got past Cookie and I lined up for my turn at attack.....and 3 laps later I was still there. It was a cracking fight, but we slowed each other down and Clive disappeared into the distance. I got past Cookie three times - the first time because he span, but I had to go into the rough to avoid him, and span myself. The next time I got him early on the back straight(?), but his Lotus took me towards the end of the straight.

The third and last time I got past it looked like I'd cracked it...however my joy lasted 4/5 corners as I tried to work out what constraints the handling issues meant for my car in clean air.....and I smacked into some bricks loosely arranged in the form of a bridge. Great fun..whilst it lasted. Cheers Cookie

Grats to the podium!

I am really not a fan of this track and drive it only if I have to...
2/3 of the ring I am pretty save but the downhill part between Hohe Acht and Schwalbenschwanz  is a horror for me.
So my intention was to survive and make my first 65 race finish here!

In the first laps I had Clive on my tail who was clearly faster but it's dangerous to pass here on the twisty sectors and my fifth gear was long enough to keep in front on the straights. So I finaly decided to let him past as I owe him a finish here Wink

Now Arf was trying to pass me for some laps and I made two little spins in the bankings wich made him pass me but he made some mistakes too so I could regain my place. In his last lap I was pretty shure I would catch him again on the long straight but he ended his race early on this infamous wall...

The next races are more friendly for my driving style  Grin
CU there Wink

If you want finish first you have to finish first.

The Nürburgring is not only one of my favorite tracks, with the 65 cars it is always a very special and very personal experience to me.
I just want comment that I saw 1965 my first Grand Prix Race (Hatzenbach) in the age of ten. This experience has certainly influenced my life greatly, the Formula 1 of the 60s and 70s do not let me go until today and sometimes I can smell here nowadays  Smiley ...

The Event: An almost perfect race, fine rhythm and a great pleasure …
Pole - start and finish victory and fastest lap - admit feels good  Grin
pole may be important at the ring - but not if Robert starts in the second row  Wink fantastic, crazy start! saw his red rocket coming, let the door open – so Robert took the lead on the outside line! in front of the Südkehre but only until the end of Hatzenbach …
The rest was hold concentration – just bring it home – a solid but not a brilliant victory.
Congratulation Tris and Dean and all finishers
Nice to see the checked this time!
This is certainly much harder next race in Syracusa - for me one of the most dangerous tracks at all.
Already now GLA in advance!

May be i could manage to start at solitude, first time in a 67 car at the ukgpl …
otherwise we‘ll met in sicily
take care

There was a contact between Ronnie's car and mine on lap1, still on red zone.
From my point of view, I was rear ended at a place it is quite impossible to overtake (I didn't yet have a look at the replay, so I can be wrong).
From Ronnie's point of view, I should have seen him on my mirrors and taken a "more central line or even wider to the right"

No problem for that, the moderator wil decide who is responsible and I will agree with his decision.

But what I cannot accept, this is this kind of sentence :  "I am Ronnie, he is a mod and as I still await the result of other moderations involving moderators  ..."
It seems, from Ronnie point of view, there is a moderators mafia (or at least a lobby) giving his favours to other moderators.
I already said I will stop to moderate for season 27 and I confirm it, today ...and I hope Ronnie will join the next moderator team so he will receive no penalties anymore  Roll Eyes
