THIS POST IS FOR BOTH GRIDS
Round 8 of the Formula 2 series will be on the Portuguese street circuit of Monsanto Park. Built on parklands, the circuit was considered difficult to drive because it crossed so many different types of surfaces, including tramlines at one point. The track hosted numerous races from 1954 to 1959, but only one race qualified as a Formula One event: the 1959 Portuguese Grand Prix, won by Stirling Moss. He won the race in the twilight hours, since the race was purposefully started late in the day to avoid the intense late summer sun.
We will maintain the Grid A & Grid B arrangement but both groups will race together. We will be using UKGPL7, which is back in operation. (Any problems the Badblood back-up on UKGPL3 may swing into action).

Drivers have been allocated to the grids as below
Group A
Arf, Cookie, Dean Logan, Doni Yourth, Evil, Greg T, Marco, Natan, Fulvio, Badblood, Billy, Boggy, Il Lupo & Newblood.

Group B
Phil Thornton, Piero Mercaldo, Rainier, Raoni, Robert Fleurke, Roberto Teso, Ronnie, Samb, Turkey Machine, Iestyn, Dave Curtis, Rog, Maddog, Bernie & Walter

ONE reset is allowed but the Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane within TWO laps. If you Reset on the last lap a 15 second time penalty will be awarded. Drivers must complete 50% of the race distance to score.

The intent had been to reintroduce handicaps for the top drivers. There is a temporary issue with splitting the previous race results so handicaps will be suspended remainder of the season. You can drive anything you like, even the Matra.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated, the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Lake hairpin. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only or at the Moderators discretion.

I'm not totally sure but the starting grid here may be as tight as in Anderstorp, not a wise choice for the race.

There have recently been graphical problems, for my machinery at the track, with no races finished for some time.  The problem may finally now be fixed!  I'd like to test it's disappearance with a full Monsanto grid.  I promise not to pass any cars unless they get in my way, and request a last minute rule change, to give me a better shot at the Championship.  Tongue

"Portuguese street circuit of Monsanto Park"   "tramlines"??  Huh Huh Huh

This description sounds more like Porto ??   Monsanto is set out in the countryside and as far as I can see no sign of trams, but maybe I am missing something?

I had certainly managed to confuse myself (not that hard) & upon seeing this race,  was thinking of Porto...
But having just had a look of a lap on the YouTube; I defo need to get some laps in beforehand to hopefully become at least a little familiar with some of it.  From the lap I saw,  it does all seem to look the same though!

Hopefully nobody else knows it either! Not expecting much here, but luckily with my position in the standings; what does another duff result matter? Wink

See you from the bales...

Clive,
The description was lifted from Wikipedia - but is quite accurate. The circuit is set in Monsanto Park to the west of Lisbon. I found an article - see link - which gives some background on this lost circuit. http://lesliemabon.wordpress.com/2013/03/17/lost-grand-prix-circuit-circuito-de-monsanto-lisbon/

I think the tramlines cut across the clover leaf turn.

Quite a tricky circuit but worth the time to practice. Similar to Porto - which I also quite like. A great shame that F1 just follows the money these days & has abandoned some of the more historic venues.

Those aren't Tram lines - Wikipedia has got it wrong.  Monsanto was originally a Scalextric track, paved over in the 70's.  You  can only see the racing grooves in one or two places. Cool

I've watched the YouTube clip a couple of times now in full screen.  I'm as ready as I can be. Setup is ready for when I turn a wheel/over...

I still think those bales are plotting something...

Tough circuit, quite technical, and easy to spin out or crash. Found some speed, but looking for some more consistency...

Not a criticism Billy, it was just that the main features described  appeared to be more pertinent to Porto than Monsanto, especially the term "street circuit".

Whatever the description, this is a tough circuit and if the corners are not challenging then the bumps certainly are!!!

Bumpy, quick, unforgiving... this is gonna end up not leaving many at the end. Worked out a 1m54s, and I've no idea how slow (or quick) that is!
