Moderator's Report

Apart from a bit of unintentional rail riding by Gareth, nothing much to report. Great watch looking at you racing wheel to wheel on Lap 1.

Well done all. Nice way to finish the season.

Season 26 Professionals Trophy, Round 10, Watkins Glen

The last race of the season is at the well known Watkins Glen. Ideal for a season climax, this American track which had been the long-time host of the US Grand Prix, often produces very close racing.

Division Moderator =   Badblood
Race List =   IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP Address = tba
Race date = 10-06-2014
Qualification Time   = ~20:45  UK time -> 30-45 min
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time
Track = Watkins Glen (Papy original)
Variant = 65F1 the 2.02 Release of the 65mod should be used
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = ~50 min -> 42 laps
RED ZONE = From the start to the exit of the Loop
Password = see above
Replay = you will get here

Driver lists and series rules can be found on the championship standings page.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only.
Whilst I would like to moderate the full lap, I only have one life so for this event the red zone will be the first lap up to the exit of the Loop.

Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

Not bad qually with no draft to help me, good start, make up a few places, clear of the riffraff, none of these guys are going to do something silly like miss the T2 apex by half a mile and slide wide clipping the armco at T3 and spin around blocking the track completely...  Roll Eyes

Yeah season 27, I'm ready anytime.

Gratulations Uli to this hot championship!

Gratulation to Robert to a great win tonight and the 2nd in this championship!

Sorry to Iestyn, I misjudged the situation into the Loop, hope your car was still driveable Roll Eyes

Left some time on the table in Q, as I got used to the 65 once more, but was quick enough for 5th on the grid.

Got a bullet of a start, but being on the 3rd row, got stuck behind the 2nd row. Uli was cautious, so I was 4th behind RP. Had a hairy moment the first time I tried to pass him at the loop, saving it by taking to the grass to avoid a collision as he turned in. Eventually got past RP on the s/f straight, with an 'undercut', and set off after Axel & Rob... who I then saw battling it out in the loop.

After following for a good few laps, and conscious of the need to get half way, I was content to sit in 3rd. Clive and Dean caught up behind, and were close a few times when I was slow out of the loop. After almost swapping positions a few times behind, Clive was unlucky at the Esses and he and Dean disappeared, so there was only 3 of us left at the front.

Eventually, Axel had let off early on the straight one time and my momentum took me past on the inside. Under braking, we came level again; perhaps Axel didn't realise this change of my position, from the usual sitting back, and took the usual Loop racing line, leading to us colliding on the inside of the corner. Unluckily for him, he lost a wheel, although while I could continue, my car was slower than before.

Pushing hard to keep up or gain on Rob, but now losing half a second a lap on the straights, put me in the clutches of Arf, who passed easily, but then made a mistake and so I 'overcut' him on the s/f straight. But still he got alongside into Big Bend, and trying to hang it around the outside, I lost the damaged car. After a few more bumps, I lost it in the loop when I changed down too late, trying to push to keep ahead of Gareth, and landed on my lid. Luckily, I was past half way..... by 1 lap.  Undecided

Congrats to Rob on winning with a good Q time, finishers for points and Uli on the title. I didn't know the championship standings going into the race, so if our incident cost you the title Axel, I'm sorry  Embarrassed. Now I realise why you were being cautious to come a secure 2nd.. perhaps I should have done the same for 3rd. I think I had the pace to go faster, but passing and getting clear in the lead would have been too tough to do today. Until the chance suddenly came to try some running in 2nd, I was content to sit back in 3rd. Looks like Uli was being similarly cautious, to come home behind and secure enough points for the title.

Had a bad prep for this race, and didn't expect too much of it. But got another lucky win due to attrition...

My racesetup was not good at all. I burnt my LF tire, and I hate understeer. Oversteer I can correct, but having a brick on my right foot, understeer kills me.

So the racepace wasn't that good, and there was a train behind me after I exchanged the lead with Axel. Iestyn also had a run on me but backed out. I couldn't go faster Axel, sorry. My engine was overheating due to late shifting, and my LF tire went in flames and at every turn in I went wide and missed the apex...only after Axel had an incident with Iestyn, I could extinguish my LF tire, and started to shortshift in order to keep the engine alive. Last few laps I pushed a bit, but still with conservative shifting around 12000rpm...

Well done Arf and Gareth for podium, and David for finishing in the lead lap! Uli did a great job having damage but doing enough for the championship. Commiserations to all that had to retire. A lot of attrition...  Undecided

I am very happy for Uli he won the championship, didn't want to win due to his bad luck. Very well deserved, Meister!

Thanks all for racing this season, was my first taste of the 65 mod and learnt a lot and got more competitive during the season...also thanks to Paul and Axel for modding and to all I forgot! Wink

I love Watkins Glen, but its an annoying place to go in a 65 car - I have no idea what it will take to get close to going negative here. Having said that it was clear to me in the race that my setup was fantastic for the corners, and I may have to compromise some of that for top end speed. I only really got a good look at Jethro and Iestyn in the bends, and I appeared to be much more stable than both of them. Getting past them was not quite as simple. By the time there were 25 laps left I was alone in P2.

Gareth looked as if he might have been sandbagging early on, as he seemed to be threatening me for a few laps (closing from 10/11 secs back to about 7), and I was looking forward to the challenge - I was worried that 25 laps might be more than my concentration could handle. Twas not to be, and I managed to keep a pretty consistent pace for the whole of the race, which was pleasing.

Well done to everyone who finished, and to Uli for the championship, and BB for modding.

See you after the World Cup

Grats to Robert on scoring yet again!  Grads Works, F2 and now a Pro Division win.  It doesn't get much better than that, does it?  Superlative fail me...

A good job by Frank to net a P2 finish here even though he says he's annoyed with The Glen.  We should all be so, Arf!  Smiley

Splendid drive by Gareth to nail down P3.  This after a spin in the Loop where, wonder of wonders, he didn't prang the car.  Roaring back hard, he was a determined spirit.

Not much to tell from my cockpit.  I got a reasonable start and passed Gareth to lead him up through the Esses.  For several laps, Gareth made feints going into the Loop til Lap04 when he made a solid bid only to lose the back end of the Lotus over the brow of the hill.  He just missed collecting my Honda.

By this time, Frank was a couple of seconds clear up ahead of me and Dave ditto behind.  Over the next few rounds, Frank pulled away sharply and I managed to edge away from Dave for a margin of about four seconds.

Who's wheel was that!?!?  I came up through the Esses at one point to find a disembodied wheel trickling along.  Dean and Evil KO'd.  Up to P6...but not for long.  Exiting the Loop, the Honda mill went BANG! and the curtain rang down on my race.  Pity as if I'd managed to keep going, I would have probably netted a P4.  Only one finish in my last three Pro Div races but P5 in the overall standings.  I can stand that.  Smiley

Grats to Uli on being our Champion!  Speed with style!

Super job by Robert to claim P2 in the final standings.  Stand-up job all 'round.

Grats to Axel on claiming a good P3.  Well done, sir.

Grats to Rob on a superb performance and the top few in q, amazing pace!
Didnt bother too much with qually, thought anything <1.10 would be my limit and did 1:10.00 with in a few laps. I was looking in the wrong place for the flag and only got the hint went every one else started moving, doh  Roll Eyes lost a place to Doni but tried to a half harted attempt at the esses failed and had to ride the rail all the way round, but the car was fine. I could not get past the honda on the straights so made a dive inside at the loop and lost it, that was it, dead last. I only managed one pass and that was on Dave, apart from that i just kept passing wrecks. At half ditance i relised i under fuled so cruised to the end in fule saving mode, no chance of catching Arf, finished with 0.4 gals left, phew.
Bad luck to the DNFs
Grats to finishers.
Grats Uli on the champ.

Grats to the podium of Robert, Arf and Gareth.

I note the jury is still out on a few moderations so overall grats to Uli or whoever for the championship will have to wait.

Can anyone help. In the race last night I could hear everyones engine/gear changes except my own?? I have never experienced this before and it left me changing gears at all the wrong times as I usually rely on the engine note rather than looking at the rev counter. Apologies for any erratic speeding up/ slowing down a s consequence.

End good all good!
Thank you very much for your congratulations but as Ronnie told us its just provisional …
The Championship final with in the end only 4 points a head, was very close and thrilling – with the help of EvilClives mishap Wink and all the other retirements

GRATS Robert, to your perfect victory and Vice-Champion!!
GRATS to Arf, Gareth and Dave!
Was great and close fighting at the beginning - shame that you had no better luck and patience, bloody fast Honda Ieytyn!
For me, yesterday the only important thing was to pick up the title, neither have engine trouble or a crash – but things turned out differently!
At the start I lost one and in the first two laps three positions.
No prob, P6 would have served me well, so I raced relaxed and concentrate on watching the engine temp.
Until lap 10 at the end of the Esses – there the BRM of EvilClive was blocking the track! As you can see we crashed violently!
That's it, I thought!

But thanks to the faulty GPL damage mode – I have had very much luck – my car was damaged, not easy to drive but mobile ...

The Mechanical problems REPORT states succinctly:
Uli Hofmann 1965 - spotters reporting:
minor problems with the left front tire.
Medium problems with the left front suspension.
minor problems with the right rear suspension.

More than 3 sec per lap are not a minor prob to me.

THANK ALL Racers and our Admins Axel and Paul for having so much fun in my very first complete, exciting season, with all the ups and downs ....
I am very happy to have made it.  Grin
THX of course I'm going to defend - my contract with Ferrari lasts until the end of 2014 Smiley

Hoping for a great track selection for the 27th season and that you are ALL IN again, incl. Tris, Raoni, ALL of you …
Uli
