Moderator's Report

This was an incident filled race. I've seen some overly aggressive driving which will be not tolerated.

As it is almost impossible to check the entire replay I have only been looking at the reported incidents and some incidents on the formation lap.

Although we don't have a replay from the qualifying session I would like to remind you all of some basic qualifying session guidelines.

Chatting is only allowed in practise and warmup session. Only chat messages like 'pit in', 'pit out' and other messages from the same nature are allowed in the other sessions.

When you are on your outlap remember you have cold tires and brakes so stay off the racing line as much as possible and move off line when a faster car is approaching.

Also I got some complaints about speeding in the pitlane. Remember the pit lane speed limit should be obeyed in all sessions.

Then I would like to remember everyone of the fact there is a formation lap. A few people seemed to have forgotten.

Don't start driving before the driver in front of you does and keep your distance. When you overtake on the formation lap by accident make sure you give the gained spots back.

I've seen some people driving with their lights on for no reason. Keep in mind driving with lights turned on is only allowed when driving in rain conditions or when you are the class leader. When a different driver is the current leader please don't forget to turn them off again.

Server replay time: 221s

Nakano_56 gets next to Greg130 in Elf. Nakano_56 has some contact with Greg130 in the following lefthander.

  • Nakano_56 (nakano_56)penalty — over-ambitious overtaking attempt at the first lap — 3 places lost

Server replay time: 851s

Sponsored by Ginsters runs offtrack at La Caixa. He runs all the way through the graveltrap and rejoins at the straight after the corner. At the same moment Jakob Schmidt comes out of La Caixa and thinks Sponsored by Ginsters is behind him at the next corner. There is some contact between them.

As it is difficult to judge a rejoiners' speed I would like to advice to keep a steady pace until you have made sure there is nobody behind you.

Server replay time: 1018s

Whitham69 follows Jamera into Repsol. He dives to the inside of the corner but is still behind at the corner entry. Whitham69 later explained he thought Jamera was running wide.

  • whitham69penalty — contact with Jamera — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 1153s

Maverick is being lapped by Greg130 on the straight before Repsol. Then there is some contact when they go in to Repsol together. It's unclear if this is an unlapping attempt or that Maverick just had missed his braking point.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1409s

Claus Jewel is in a fight for 4th spot with Greg130. Claus taps the right rear of Greg130's car, who almost loses controll.

Server replay time: 1504s

Nakano_56 is attempting to lap Popabawa at La Caixa. Nakano_56 goes a bit wide and Popabawa hits him.

Server replay time: 1506s

UPDATE:

D Boyd is gaining on Edza pretty fast. Just before the last corner D Boyd thinks Edza is going to let him pass. In fact the blue flag even wasn't shown yet to Edza. D Boyd just barges into the back of Edza who spins off and hits the wall pretty hard.

This incident is put in after the report is published and went by unreported. The penalty will be reduced to a caution. Keep in mind this would have been a 2 place penalty when it was reported and put in before the report was published.

Server replay time: 1606s

Nakano_56 laps Sponsored by Ginsters just before La Caixa while he is following Greg130. Then he dives to the inside of the corner while Greg130 is already moving to the apex. The contact which follows knocks Greg130 into the graveltrap.

Server replay time: 1855s

UPDATE:

Boyd is about to lap Mo when they get to Repsol. Boyd drives his car to the inside of the corner and taps the right rear of Mo's car. Mo has to travel through the gravel trap to get back on the track again. This was an unnecesary incident as Boyd could have easily passed Mo under power at the following straight.

As this incident is put in after publication the given penalty will be diregarded.

Server replay time: 2018s

Claus Jewel is trying to lap Whitham69 for a while. At the second to last corner he hits the right rear of Whitham69's car sending him into a spin.

Server replay time: 3270s

Whitham69 is taking his planned pitstop. Aajay_UK drives into the pits some time after that and starts pushing Whitham69 out of the way. Because Whitham69 was pushed out of his pit space it also stopped the refuelling, making Whitham69 have to come around the track to get enough fuel to finish the race.

Later he explained his pitcrew was telling him to move forward and he had no choice. What he should have done is wait until Whitham69's pitstop was finished and then move forward.

Aajay_UK's race already was spoiled, he shouldn't have spoiled Whitham69's race too. Therefore I'm forced to issue a 2 place penalty for this incident.

  • aajay_ukpenalty — pushing Whitham69 out of his pit space — 2 places lost

Server replay time: 3994s

Claus Jewel is following Greg130 at a short distance when they go through New Holland. At the apex of the corner he starts to close in even more and finally bumps into Greg130.

Totally agree with Mo, the skins looked excellent in race. Some of the 550's that lapped past looked fantastic. I particularly liked the white & green cars  Cool  The other good thing was you could make out almost immediately who was approaching in your mirrors without having to use the 'look-back' key for a name tag.
Very good driving by the GT's too, plenty of patience being shown through some of the trickier infield sections. I thought the racing on the whole was very clean, even in tight racing with other NGT's. Really enjoyed the battles with SBG, Jakob and my own team mate Don for long spells.

Great race and good fun. Cool

does version 1.5 not iron out any of these problems.

Nope. Sad I think it's an inherent problem with the old gMotor engine.

1.5 does not fix 1fps bug. The patch did originally say "multiplayer enhancements", but they soon removed that line when they realised they balls'd up the dedicated server.

I have read that lag seems a bit better with 1.5, it may be worth giving it a go again as that seems to have been worse for us recently, but we'd have to use a GDB file to set the session lengths on the server and clients. This maybe a little easier now that we have a car pack, although not for the Sprint championship.

List of changes are:

o Eastern European character input updates

o Number characters input fix for Czech

o "@" character input fix on German keyboard

o Alt Gr characters input fixed

o Various localisation issues fixed

Oh and you're less likely to suffer from it if you run an AMD 64 and PCI-Express graphics card according to these polls...

If we run another GTR series after Endurance finishes at the end of April we'll probably switch to 1.5. It won't happen before then though.

As we run 2 copies of GTR on Picnic's server, one for the Sprints and one for the Endurance (due to the skin pack), with Luis's help we could easily use a GDB file at the mid-season skin pack refresh and move onto 1.5 (at which point the Sprints would be finished I think).

Not bothered unless it really is going to help the multiplayer in some way though.

Luis has already provided that help and I have a GDB file for UKGTR although it does not restrict car selection. Trouble is you can decide on session length but you cannot skip sessions. Why SIMBIN cannot produce a decent dedicated server after 5 revisions of GTR and 2 or 3 of GTL I don't know. Remember GTL still has its stupid bits, like remembering the car selection correctly or remembering number of cars the server can support. The later always seems to default to 36 now which caught me out again last night as I was trying to do 2 things at once  Embarrassed

I agree, it should be easy enough for them to get it setup right. I however dont see what is so important about being able to set session lengths. You can get 90 min practices and hour quals and make the race session whatever you want it to be. Should be easy enough to have someone just advance the server when the time comes.
Heck we ran the game in normal mode for our leagues so we could set the grid and use weight penaltys and ran it all remotely, didnt use the dedi at all. If anyone remembers there was no 1fps bug until the non-dx dedi came out. We also were able to have proper formation laps as well with a true start. I guess the one big drawback was the need for the DX card and resources on the server box.

It worked in 1.4, then they broke it. Angry We don't want an hour of qualifying because then we'll get people joining all through the Q session, which is highly undesirable because
  • even with "load textures only in pits" turned on there's still a pause when people leave or join;
  • we get invisible cars on track because of the fix for the previous bug, resulting in lots of frustrated and annoyed drivers.

Heck we ran the game in normal mode for our leagues so we could set the grid and use weight penaltys and ran it all remotely, didnt use the dedi at all. It's a very big drawback for us because it pushes the cost of the server up tremendously. Sad
