Recently a GPL Funliga member died, Jörg Rohde, didn't know him but he died suddenly in his 50s, and like to pay respect to his family and (simracing) friends.

Yes, this made me really sad!
I drove my first online races with him, as he was a regular Funliga driver we raced nearly every week together the last 3 years.
Using Teamspeak we had lots of fun racing and helping each other with any problems.
Last Wednesday I was told why he was missing and was shocked!

So my performance in this series was not good and I just wanted to show my respect to beefpie by being present.

That is sad news. Never nice to lose a friend like that.

RIP both of you.

I don't know much about Joe but being a GPL driver himself, I imagine he would have enjoyed participating in such a memorial. The almost half of the series I was present was some very good racing.

Congrats to Robert on his overall victory! You may have gotten lucky but you still earned it. Often I've been of the opinion I'd rather be lucky than good. You've gotten your fair share of bad luck so it's nice to see you get some good luck. You seem to be one of the fastest drivers in GPL at the moment. And congrats to all the other participants! Iestyn's been coming on strong lately. I'm proud of him. I'm also very pleased to see him perform so well. If Jethro gets on a roll, he's going to be incredibly difficult to beat too.

I really enjoyed racing in this memorial. Most of the time I was present, I was in some good, clean, close racing. I had a good race with Dean at Monza and had a blast trying to keep the pressure on Ray at Silverstone. Bob also did a good job of pressuring me at Silverstone. Had he not been driving a damaged car, I doubt I could have beaten him. I think the only reason I prevailed was consistency. I also learned some more and got some much needed practice in the Brabham and Lotus.

Thanks guys.

Grats to Iestyn, Robert and Jethro for the podium at Silverstone and Robert overall for this series.

Really enjoyed all three races regardless, with some good racing with Paul at the Glen, Dean at Monza and Greg at Silverstone. Sorry about blowing my engine Greg and spoiling what could have been a race long scrap.

There really was something special about Joe so it is great to see this series continue.

Having said that, sorry to hear about Jörg Rohde. Not some one I knew, but my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Firstly can I offer my congratulations to Robert Fleurke, who is the first international winner of the Joe Shaw Memorial Trophy. I really do hope that we will be able to meet Robert, hopefully at The Goodwood Revival.

Can I also please give my thanks to all at GPL for continuing to support the JSMT, I cannot adequately find the words to express quite what this means to our family, you are a great community and I can understand why Joe (Beefpie) enjoyed his racing with you so much.

I apologise for still being absent from the scene, life it seems is always so busy that I haven't even had the time to progress either my GPL or real racing but hopefully this will change at some point so I will eventually be able to join in.

Finally, it is indeed very sad to here of the passing of someone at any stage of their life let alone so suddenly. Can I also add my sincere condolances and best wishes to the family and friends of Jörg Rohde.

Very best regards

Malcolm (Malgrips) Shaw

Malcolm,

thanks a lot! I was planning to go to the Goodwood Revival this year, but had to cancel these plans due to finances...maybe next year...

Take care,
Rob
