Moderator's Report

3 incidents in the first lap

Server replay time: 0h01m11s

Arf has a tremendous start and overtakes Fran, but on the following bend Fran has the tow and tries to repass.
Rog is allways on the right and keeps there.
Fran is surprised when Rog shows on his right side and because of this can not move further to the right.
Arf keeps his racing line not aware of the complex situation, but knowing his underpowered pace on a straight.
Fran touches with his left rear Arfs right front tyre and Arf spins.

Server replay time: 0h01m39s

Bernie is ahead of Fran into Zagaria, shifts down and brakes for a nearly full 5th gear corner!!!
Bernie slowed considerably at that spot!
Totaly surprised Fran rearends him.
This is L1 so he has to be more cautious...

Simple Rear End Shunt: Penalty 1 Place

Server replay time: 0h02m02s

Doni messed the entrance to Curva del Cancello and was aware of Clive behind him!
Doni was struggling through and exiting the corner watching ahead.
He does move over taking a normal line into the following corner.
As the overtaking driver Clive had a better view...
It's a 60:40 situation.

Replay or it didn't happen. Tongue

AFM, guilty party on Billy, who braked much earlier than I thought he would have for T4, and just could not avoid him.

Prior to that, had used up my one reset and SnG when the engine smoked 4 laps in whilst running second.

Just cannot get a break. Sad

Did I enter the right race. This was the F2 series and not some Banger racing series  laugh

Great fun when in company with Clive, Dave and Marco. But lonely when not.

Grats to the podium of Robert, Axel and Dean.

Bernie

You, like I, were both taken out by Fran on lap one. It was completely unacceptable driving behaviour.  A classic case of trying to win the race on the first lap.

I qualified last, not really a surprise given I had taken zero token Brabham. I found it difficult to believe how poor this car is in comparison to all the others. It pretty much went backwards from the get go, and my only hope was to take draft where I could, and of course Fran took that opportunity away from me. I did however make an amazing start and over took two or three people away from the grid. Fran was behind me and he, Rog and I went into the second corner together, and he just drove into me.

Not only did I meet this Race difficult for myself by taking the most uncompetitive car on the grid, but I also had to drive it one-handed. No jokes about that boys, I have suspected fracture in my right arm. I wasn't going to enter at all until I realised that the track lends itself to an automatic box. As practice went on however, I considered going to a manual box and using the button and flappy paddle on my dear old G25. A quick test convinced me it was worth the gamble and I went for it. At the end of the day I have some points… not many ...And more importantly some tokens and that I can use when my hand gets back to normal.

My race ended on lap 29 just after Marco had overtaken me. We went into the second last bend and I took it just like id  taken 28 previous times. Marce however just ground to a halt in the middle of the corner I couldn't do anything but smash into him. I would not accept any blame for this.

Sorry for any comedy grammar in this post. I have dictated it on my iPad. I really really really need to train this ******** to recognise my voice better, as it has taken ages to edit it.

See you all soon

Arf,
I hope you can use both arms soon, my best wishes!

Don't be surprised about the points, as it is related to the BT14 database bug!
I hope we can fix this soon with the help of Gizmo!

Was turned over in the second lap (not yet seen the replay!) but this let me have a phantastic catch-up race.  Grin Grin Grin
Another boring win for Rob  Tongue WD and Gratulations.

Re points: Yes it is amazing how many records I appear to have set this race. I wouldn't have been surprised to have been slowest driver ever however I seem to have earned the right to have my times in purple above, and if I go to my driver history it appears I won that race from pole with the fastest lap! Amazing :-)

...Was turned over in the second lap...

That was me, sorry.  Sad

Impatient, trying to keep up with the fast guy, tried (not hard enough) to avoid hitting you, then wonderful GPL collision physics took over. Somehow found a gap in the fence to go through (didn't think there was one there at all, looks solid all the way around that corner), tried to find my way back to the track, then the armco started again so shift-r. Good fun after that, caught you a couple of times but never got past enough to make it stick. The punt you gave me into the barrier at T3 lap 28 is forgiven, seeing as I'd turtled you earlier.

Was quite surprised to see pitboard (I don't run prib) go from Doni behind by 6 seconds to Doni behind -1 lap with about five to go  Shocked. RF was flying tonight.

Almost (but not quite  Wink) felt guilty for stealing the last podium spot from GT at the line, after his clean consistent run. Hope those tokens he saved here pay off well later in the season. I'll be Coopered for a couple of races to make up for taking the MS7 here.

Poor Paul  Sad

However you managed to bring the topspeed of the Lotus 48 to a staggering 1246kmh/775mph at a certain frame, actually you just went supersonic! Must make vid (when I have/make the time)  angel

Had a good setup that scrubbed off as less possible speed as well on the straights as the turns, but maybe 4th and 5th gear slightly too short. Got pole, and start went well. Could keep the lead, and Axel was content to sit behind me with Dean and Iestyn following him. On Lap 2 I went a bit deep in T4 and maybe this caught Axel out, he went wide and Dean couldn't avoid him. Noticed Iestyn looped it there just before.

From then on draft was broken and basically ran 13s in clean air and 12s in draft when I got closer to a car about to be lapped. Should have put more efforts in the fastlap, as Iestyn who followed me after I lapped him, got in a good lap. But ran out of laps and cars in front...

As Iestyn kept me company and I had to pass quite a few cars, it wasn't that boring. But it wasn't my aim to lap so many cars or to win with a big margin, it just happened. Iestyn could have easily drafted past me, but chose to use me picking up places, until Iesty went off I think...really good racer I can only hold off by exploiting setups or better prep Tongue

Well done Axel and Dean for podium, and finishers. Some good racing going on, but sadly also incidents and wrecks. Commiserations to those suffering from bad luck.

Almost (but not quite  Wink) felt guilty for stealing the last podium spot from GT at the line, after his clean consistent run.

Smiley , I'm so pissed at myself! I thought the race was over after lap 32. I thought Axel just nipped me by a meter. I actually beat him across the line on lap 32. He kept the pedal down so I did too even though I thought the race was over. I wanted to get some slipstream since I got so little of it through the race and practice. I was just having fun when I tried the pass after the rock wall on lap 33. Had I realized by then the race wasn't over I would have followed Axel carefully through the last sharp turn. I didn't realize the race wasn't over until after I came out of the last sharp turn. I doubt you would have got me at the line then Dean if I weren't such a dummie! It was bad enough that Axel wiped out an almost 18 second lead.

That was a wild race! I was probably fortunate to have such little hp when Iestyn, Axel, and Dean had their melee. I was far enough back that I had time to avoid their cars. I made some nice moves to avoid Axel and later Jethro. The outside line I took into turn 1 was rather nice to see too. I was surprised to be in 3rd by lap 3. I was almost shocked to be in 2nd by lap 5 after Jethro's engine blew. After that I was all by myself. As soon as I got in 2nd, I knew some of the fast cars still could catch me. I saw that DaveR and Clive were a good distance back. After 5 laps or so I knew they weren't going to catch me but when I saw that Axel was closing on them I started wondering if he had enough time to catch me. I tried to keep the car in the 15.1's but I'd drop back to 15.5 regularly. Man, I needed Jethro's slipstream! I could have easily followed him onto the podium. I think I had something like a 16 second lead on Axel with 10 laps to go. Oh no! There goes 1.8 seconds on that lap. Darn, there's 1.5 on that one. He's going to catch me? Dean and Axel must be dicing some. The lead's not evaporating so quick. He's getting closer. I'm going to start weaving so he doesn't get as much slipstream. Oops, I make my first real mistake. The bad line into the last sharp turn causes me to hit the guard rail. Then all that's left for me to do is screw up that same turn on the last lap.

However you managed to bring the topspeed of the Lotus 48 to a staggering 800+kmh/500+mph at a certain frame.

I've seen Jackie Stewart do 220 mph at the end of the 1st fast section in the BRM P115! You reminded me of that. I had to watch some replay to see how he did such a mind blowing lap time.

I wish I could have got some of your slipstream Rob. I was hoping you'd slow down for me. But I knew you didn't want to let me get close with my awesome Ferrari.  laugh  I'm real curious how fast the 166 will go in the slipstream. I did an easy 13.6 practicing with Axel prior to the race. I was only able to do 14.9 without one. 14.6 should be possible for me with more practice.

Congratulations Rob, Axel, and Dean! I'm going to get you someday for that one Dean. Smiley

And as Rob said, "Commiserations to those suffering from bad luck." It's a shame things got so ugly.

It looks like Greg and myself had the same idea about this race.  Wink

I confess that I was concerned that this race might have more than one "incident" and that a large number of tokens could be spent with little or no reward.  I decided almost immediately that I saw the track list for the season that i would run a cheap car here and hope to collect a few points.

Qually proved that although the Fez could not compete in the pure horsepower stakes, with the right gearing it would happily be towed along at any speed that the fast cars could generate  Grin.  Critical to this plan was to be fast enough through the corners to ensure that I stayed close behind those Protos' and Matra's.

So, all I had to do was to hook up behind the leading group and sit there....simples. Except that I not allowed for some fast cars being much slower through the important corners  Undecided and this cost me on lap ! when I exited the penultimate corner, behind a Protos, carrying far more speed and was obliged to take the inside approaching the sweep onto the S/F straight. I knew that I would probably be passed again once we reached max velocity, but with zero HP I could not afford to lose momentum. Then the world cartwheeled!!!
Remarkably the car landed back on 4 wheels and a quick drop through the gears appeared to indicate that everything was working. I fully expected to find something very broken at the next fast corner, but it all worked fine.
The rest of the race was a case of looking for the slipstream and I had some quick laps with Arf3 and David eventually Arf's Brabham was out grunted I think and once he lost the tow we were gone.

I could easily live with David's Protos and it would have been nice if he was just a little quicker  Grin, because I could see Axel and a few others gaining ground far too quickly  Undecided I was hoping to switch draft buddy as they came past, but there was so much jockeying for position that I could never tuck in behind anyone safely. It was on the last lap that I managed to switch from David to Doni and sneak an extra few points Roll Eyes

Grats to Robert on stunning pace and to Greg for keeping out of trouble and making the Fezza work here. Now to work out where to spend all of those lovely tokens  Cheesy

I got the idea of driving the Ferrari from you. I was going to drive the Lola-BMW but when I saw you practicing with the 166 I started thinking I might ought to try it too. If Clive's driving a Ferrari at least there will be one person for me to race with. I started to grow rather fond of it in last season's Friday series and I started to use it at Jops in the F2 series, but Axel gave me the idea of using the Cooper instead. If it had the same power to weight ratio as the BT23 it would probably be my favorite F2 car. I could have had a higher top speed with a different gear set but I was worried about losing a lot of time if I spent a lot of time without a slipstream. I made the right choice.

I watched the replay more and noticed some things. It's a drag to set your fast lap on lap 4. I see that Arf set his fast lap on the lap after I lapped him. Say that 5 times real fast! Lap, lap, lap! I must have been the only car that couldn't quickly leave him behind.

I'm still mad at myself. If I'd have drove just a little bit faster, I could have got 2nd. My fooling around by weaving cost me precious tenths on the 2nd and 3rd to the last lap. And I lost precious tenths many other times too. I used too much of my determination on Saturday and didn't have enough left for Sunday. Plus I'm such a bonehead for not knowing lap 32 wasn't the end of the race.

That was a lot of fun. Enna is my favorite "oval". Enna and Phoenix International are about the only ovals I really like to race. It was also a joy to make such a good showing in a Ferrari on Sicily, one of my favorite places to race.

Thanks Greg, I think I've learnt to understand F2 well and how to get the setup right for optimum grip and speed for my driving style. Nowadays I brew a setup in GPLSM and it is often almost good out of the box. It saves so much time understanding how to setup for a specific mod..

Great drive in the 166 Greg, as well as Clive. Unlucky to not clinch a podium. Also respect to poor Arf in the slow BT14...

PS: a short Wacky Races vid is in the works Grin
