Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
A very difficult track and a true test for the elite drivers in UKGPL. Tristan rose to the challenge posting an impressive pole time which he converted to a dominant win thanks to some quite brilliant driving. Only Robert had the pace to seriously challenge Tristan but any chance of pressurising him evaporated when Robert blew the engine in his Cooper. A series of errors and mechanical failures further eroded the field which allowed Tim Muttram to claim the runner-up spot on his return to UKGPL after a year off. Congratulations Tim, a great drive proving you've lost none of your considerable skills. Third place was claimed by Andy Livingston, a just reward for a steady sensible drive, well done Andy.

Server replay time: 0h02m03s

Lap 1 - MTS Kurve - Jethro Walters and Evil Clive
Jethro is very quick down the hill on the approach to MTS Kurve and closes in on Clive. Contact is made and both cars fly off into the trees. Amazingly Jethro can continue and to his credit waits patiently until there is a safe gap in the traffic before he rejoins. Unfortunately Clive's car is completely wrecked and he is out of the race.

The speed difference catches Jethro out and although he tries to slow down he cannot avoid hitting Clive's gearbox. Comparing the speeds of the leading drivers at "turn-in" i.e. the start of white line, Tristan Bot is doing 118mph, Robert Flurke is doing 121mph, Evil Clive 110mph and Jethro 126mph. So Jethro is going quicker than the pace setters and Clive is slightly slower. It appears Clive was trying to settle in and warm the tyres up ready for a long race whereas Jethro was keen to get after the leaders. Clive did nothing wrong, he was entitled to set his own pace. Jethro should have been more patient and has to shoulder the responsibility for the shunt.

Season 27 Works Trophy - Round 1 - Sachsenring

Welcome to the Season 27 Works Trophy for the original 1967 brutes!

The Sachsenring is a long and terrifying street circuit in former East-Germany that so epitomizes the 1960s Grand Prix scene.  The first race here was held on 26 May 1927 on an 8.7 km (5.4 mile) layout on public roads, running also through the village of Hohenstein-Ernstthal itself. It was dubbed "Sachsenring" in 1937. This track is slightly wider than Schottenring but just as dangerous and no easier to pass on.  There are lots of undulations and slipstreaming straights so it is going to be tough on the low powered cars.  Please take your time trying to overtake, it will be very difficult for following drivers to avoid any wreckage that may be littering the track.

Race List = iGOR
Server = UKGPL8
IP address = 77.3.123.153
Race date = 03-08-2014
Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time (21:30 GMT)
Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Sachsenring
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Race length = 19 Laps (50 minutes)
Password: see above

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated for lap 1 only. For this event the red zone will be from the start to the exit of the Badberg Kurve on lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Sachsenring Rulez, but don't end up in this pit besides the bridge after Guthrie Stein !

Really nice track, very technical, the only downside is a little mistake is terminal. Never drove here before (apart from sightseeing laps to judge track), but last night did some laps and got the hang of it. Tricky points are Heiterer Blick, in order not to bottom out you rather take the outside line there. Also braking for Queckenberg Kurve, the last tight left turn, you need to start braking smoothly or car will bottom out going up. Stiffer springs and increasing ride height are a viable option as well, especially on racefuel.

For the rest going off track here, and you might end up in the ditches and wrecking hard. Very difficult track overall, but I like the lay/out, it´s a blast to drive.

There are some very slight technical problems with the Sachsenring which result in warping in a number of fixed spots around the track. This should be less of a problem now than it was when I first drove here a couple of years ago due to advances is connections, and even back then I hardly noticed anything, bu thought I'd mention it. Also, due to the nature of the technical problem of the track, it appears to be slightly more unstable than other tracks in terms of freezes. I have only ever had one freeze around this track so hope everything goes well on Sunday, provided I take part at all since I'm throwing a birthday party at my house Cheesy .

Thanks Tommie. This track is tried and tested at UKGPL according to the Moderators Guide. It has been raced in UKGPL twice in 2005/2006 with 67 cars, only historic results data. Also in 2011 it was raced with 66, however I see some screenfreeze reports. Also it was suggested to check toss biggest mips in GEM+ under rasterizer. However I can only set a number.

At GPLRacer I just read Sachsenring -> heavy warps and lags, freezes, discos (65 Mod) -> freezes & discos (69 Mod)

Crossing fingers...

I blew an engine also, didn't even had high temps...was following Tris at 4s, and running very solid...P2 was just a matter of keeping it on track...first time I blow a Maserati in a race I think  Roll Eyes

edit: it was a piston, might have overrevved too much at bumps and such...

Yes I also thought a Maserati will not die and made some gears shorter...

Some good info I found somewhere Roll Eyes

But I suspect that's the suspension/chassis parts, not the engine...because Honda engine is most fragile...where do you got that info? In my experience Brabham and Cooper are most reliable.

Congrats to Tristan for the dominant win, Tim and Andy for podium, well done!

PS: sorry Axel hit the wrong button and accidently modified your post rather than replying!  angel

The values are the cars overall reliability based on their real results in 1967  Wink

I see, thanks. Surtees was a king managing the engine I guess Wink Interesting data, but hard to put it 1:1 to GPL even though Dave Kaemner might have aimed for that. Maybe John Roberts can enlighten us more, or Lee Bowden at SRMZ...sure it has been discussed before...until then I go with my own experiences  Tongue

Do regret pushing a bit too much and overrevving too much. Just was too agressive with my shifting at points, and over the bumps...also getting wheelspin and drifting everywhere, sometimes even in higher gears didn't help the engine...and then she went over the bump before Heiterer Blick on Lap 8...hopefully it's an incident, the T81b is actually my favo car in GPL!
