Moderator's Report

SUMMARY
A very clean race marked by a particularly civilised start. The pole sitter, Robert Fleurke, was relegated to the back of the grid when GPL ignored his lap times. This allowed Tristan to lead the field as the flag dropped and, apart from momentarily loosing the lead to Tim Muttram, Tristan stamped his authority on the race with a convincing win and an impressive fastest lap. Tim continued his career revival with a solid second place. A clean sweep of the podium for Lotus was completed by Jethro Walters who this time managed to convert his usual searing pace into a podium finish rather than a trip to the breakers yard.

Server replay time: 0h02m03s

Lap 10 - Turn 1 - Robert Fleurke and Gregory Taber
Gregory catches the kerb on the inside of turn 1 and this throws him into a spin. As he pirouettes along on the grass, Gregory is a passenger and there is little he can do to prevent his car rolling back onto the track just as Robert is approaching. Contact is made and both drivers are out of the race.

In hindsight one can always identify something that could have been done differently which would have prevented the incident. However in the heat of the moment with the adrenaline flowing there was nothing either driver could reasonably be expected to have done to avoid the contact.

Season 27 Works Trophy - Round 2 - Rouen-les-Essarts

Welcome to the well known Circuit Rouen-les-Essart for Round 2 of the Season 27 Works Trophy!

From its opening in 1950, Rouen-Les-Essarts was recognized as one of Europe's finest circuits, with modern pits, a wide track, and spectator grandstands. The circuit (which ran on public roads) had a few medium straights, a cobbled hairpin turn (Nouveau Monde) at the southernmost tip, and a few blind corners through a wooded hillside. The appeal was greatly enhanced by the climb from Nouveau Monde at 56 metres to Gresil at 149 metres.

Replays Available here

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of Beauval on lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only.  However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator.  This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated.  This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely.  If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report.

The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

First my 55.2 pole lap doesn't get recognized, after a messy quali. Starting dead last, biding my time losing 4s a lap...drove like a clown at times but still was back up to 7th with chance to salvage a podium. And then when a Honda spins off, I check up, and then he crosses back on the track...nowhere to go for me...

PS: I didn't change my IP, just rejoined, but had an other car number...never had taken away my time like that...what a (bad) joke...

My apologies Robert. It was too much pressure for me and the Honda. Great fun until until I saw an Eagle get destroyed. Sad

No worries Greg, I'm sure you didn't mean to. Don't feel bad about it. There's always the next race Wink

You didn't change your helmet colour when you rejoined did you Robert? I know that can cause re-numbering and loss of times. I think there were 3 of you on my Prib by the time the race started!

While I hate to gain places through internet woes I'm kind of glad, Tristan was unstoppable after his lap 2 pirouette at Nouveau Monde so 2nd was the best I could hope for. Thankfully I was ever-so slightly quicker than Jethro so when he appeared behind me at about half distance I managed to keep him at arms length.

I really need to sort my driving rig as having my wheel 10cm or so too high is killing my arms/shoulders in these races! God knows how I'll manage to stay alive at Charade  Grin

No, I didn't...just rejoined changed nothing...noticed my car number was changed so I rejoined again...

Afaik, GPL can change your car # (and doesn't associate the "new" you with your "old" times) if anyone else joins the server after you. It can also be a "stealth" reassignment (it assigns you a new # that just happens to be the same # [because when you quit, your previous # goes back into the available pool of #s to give to drivers]). Your second quit/rejoin likewise invalidated your 1m56s lap.

If you had been the last to join, then set your time, and quit/rejoin (without joining in a different car, or changing your helmet colour, etc.) with no one else doing anything, you would have kept pole. Sometimes it does that anyway.

I also saw 3 of you on the provisional grid before the off.

About my race: I jumped out of a Ferrari 312 and into a Ferrari 303 on lap 2 while trying to get past TvO, then did my best to stay out of everyone's way for the remainder. As Prib was showing the number of laps left for the leader, not me, I had no idea how many laps I had actually completed until after the end of the race.

If anyone has a problem with my attempts, or feel I impeded them unfairly in any way, take it up with those who voted for or imposed the 50% rule, because I ain't listening.[/size]

Congratulations Tristan, Tim, and Jethro! Nice drive.

I apologize again Rob. I had to watch the replay to see exactly how I screwed up. I thought I had made two mistakes but I wasn't sure. I knew I tried to carry too much speed into turn 1 and I downshifted late. When the nose was pointing to the right, I floored it to try to push me out of Jethro's way. That worked half decent. Then I let off the accelerator completely thinking the car would keep slowly going right, away from the track. Then I went brain dead. I didn't think to lock the brakes until I came to a stop. I never would have rolled back into the track like I did and that would have carried my slightly off the right side of the track. That was a real stupid mistake. I'll remember that and try not to do it again. I hate taking you out like that Rob.

You had some real bad luck Rob. I didn't realize you were put to the back of the field. You still had a real good opportunity to get a decent finish had my mistake not ruined it. It would have been tough to catch the Lotuses but I think you could have handled everybody else.

That was a tough race for me. I got a good start and picked up a position from Axel. I may have been able to open a little gap but Andy was slowing me terribly heading towards and through the hairpin. There was no way I could get around him without him making a big mistake. That kept Axel on my tail for a while. I thought about letting him by at one point but I kept hoping Andy would make a mistake. I started worrying the engine is not going to take too much more of this abuse. Next thing Jethro comes up quickly and I start thinking I'm going to have to let him by. I could no longer put any pressure on Andy with Jethro pressuring me. If I let Jethro by, I might have to go ahead and let Axel by too? I had no clue Rob was just behind them. If let Axel by, then I surely would have wanted to let Rob by too. That would have put my in a comfortable 7th with the ability to still pressure Axel and Andy. I had nothing for the Lotuses or Eagle except maybe early, if I could have got by Andy, I may have been able to stay close to Tim until he started running 57's consistently. My indecision killed me. I also couldn't handle the pressure of Lotuses and Ferraris with the Honda. That was too much for me.

Thanks guys.

@ Dean: thanks for explaining. If I don't have to reconnect I won't in the future...I didn't see Tristan on the server, wondered where he was...maybe he couldn't join server and did want to check iGOR chatrooms to see if he was there with probs, me being Works Owner...but when back on the server Tristan was present...oh irony...then other carnumber, set a time and wondered again where my laptime was...rejoined again, another carnumber...no time at all...

@ Greg: watched replay, no worries. Initially I saw you spin of on the right side of the track, Axel checked up, I checked up slightly...but as you were on the right side/grass I chose the left lane and floored it again...in hindsight I should have checked up more, or never have checked up...then I would have missed you...just bad luck...

Also like to say sorry to Arf for my pass in T1, should have been more patient, bad place to make a pass stick. We touched wheels I noticed, that was my bad. Glad you didn't spin off but it did cost you at least some time. Also another attempted pass on Tommie in T2 was bad, but managed to go on the grass in order not to wreck. And outbraking Clive, and myself, and Clive went by again...

Red mist uh?

I was impressed by the disciplined start by the whole field, that was class IMO! We always should make sure we have these sort of starts! Smiley

No problem at all Tristan, you can choose when you want to join...it's a a shame once again we were denied a proper fight, and I'm looking for races to fight with you until the end in the future, and that will happen for sure! Smiley

Congrats for the win, and Tim and Jethro for their well deserved podium spots, even though arguably I could have salvaged a podium...Jethro was just in front of Axel, and I was about to get in touch with Axel when I had to retire...

Also well done to the rest of the finishers Smiley

Qualifying was difficult, could not get a clean lap in without a mistake. Race start was excellent (revs just held nicely in 1st to nearly squeeze past someone), then got involved in a nice tussle for 3rd with 4 other cars, until that became two when I got past Axel and Greg gave me a scare at T1... I so nearly t-boned him!

After that, I tried keeping it on the black stuff and trimming the lap time. The gap to Tim stayed mostly constant, some laps increasing, some laps decreasing, then he found a new wind and kept pulling ahead. Tristan was again in a league of his own!

Congrats to all who finished, apologies if we disrupted you in chat. I had clean forgotten to wait for the "session complete" notice and joined in. Mea culpa. Sad
