Moderator's Report

Only 10 racers at the start, but 3 incidents during red zone.
Also 1 reported incident after red zone.

It seems several drivers, among the most experimented, do not remember what is red zone !

3 racers did a shift-R but all followed by a stop and go in the pits.

Server replay time: 0h00m40s

At the very first corner of the race, Walter braked too early (that's what he wrote on the race topic) and was marginally rear ended by Fabio (Walter asked for no penalty for Fabio).

Also lag was involved, wheels don't touch.

By the way, Fabio should have been more cutious on the first turn.

Server replay time: 0h01m00s

Martin looses control on the grass and hit my car.

Server replay time: 0h01m02s

Billy loose control and hit Paul's car.

Server replay time: 0h02m05s

After red zone, Paul loose control on the grass and hit Billy's car.

Billy - Paul : 1 - 1 !

Season 27 Amateurs Trophy - Round 3 - Nurburgring

The third round of the Season 27 championship for the Amateurs will be at the infamous Nurburging. Fourteeen miles & countless corners, one of the most dangerous tracks to host F1 racing. Maybe not everyone’s idea of fun but it might helps with your GPL rank time - & you only have to go round 5 times!

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under INT rules and only one reset is allowed.

Yeah,  I think this is the one I need to drive in order to get a rank.
Not looked at the target / WR times,  but within 100-120 seconds will be the aim.  Hopefully without being lapped!

After my morning practice, I wanted to know more about the Nurburgring. So after a quick look at Wikipedia, I found that it was designed by the Eichler Architekturbüro from Ravensburg (led by architect Gustav Eichler) in 1925, and "the layout of the circuit in the mountains was similar to the Targa Florio event, one of the most important motor races at that time."

I have to give Gustav credit, the man was a genius!

Unfortunately,  DSL dropped out a few corners in.
Luckily, there had been no real practice;  just half a lap with the setup I'd just downloaded.

Nevermind;  I'm sure a famous Mr Hunt (the other one) mentioned once that maybe it was better have the race end early rather than knacker yourself out...   [can't recall if he also referenced 50% distance or not...]

If I'd have practiced, I'd be a bit peeved!

Good luck all!

Cheers,
Dave.

Quite a fun race. Made a good start and then got tagged out of T1. Billy maybe? That dropped me back but I caught Fabio and passed him and cheekily blocked him off using a stranded Honda. Then set off to chase Bill and immediately muffed it up. Haven't looked at the replay yet but I lost control and bounced straight across Bill's nose (I think). When I finally got going I found I had inherited second. Keeping David behind didn't last long and whilst I held Walt off for a while the inevitable happened and although I thought I might be able to stay with him and draft down the seventeen mile hedge straight.... I couldn't. Span three times trying to keep up so slowed down and concentrated on being steady. Paid dividends and maintained the gap to Rog and Bill.

Not as lonely as some races here but I don't think I will ever love the 'ring.

Sorry to those I biffed.

Congrats to Dave R., the winner, and to Maddog for bringing home second place. I was mentally exhausted after that! I did not have a very good qualifying lap, and started near the back. I actually think that starting in the back helped me stay focused, and I avoided making too many mistakes. However, I did make two or three small mistakes.

I slowed down too early for turn one, lap one and I was given a bump for it. No harm was done. I hope that the other person does not receive a penalty for it. I followed a long train of cars for most of lap one. I was behind Dave C when he disappeared. Sorry to see you go.  Sad Then I followed RogUK for a while. I think that he let me past on the inside. I was a little too excited afterwards, and I messed up the next corner.

I had a few cars behind me as well. Most notably, Johnny was glued to my bumper for the first couple of laps. I'm sorry that Johnny had to wreck his car to avoid my car. What I mean is that Rog, Johnny and I were driving down the straight together. I thought that Johnny might use the draft to overtake me at the end of the straight. I thought that I better lift so that I could give Johnny the inside line. Then he tried to pull in behind me at the exit of the corner, but I was going slower than normal.  I watched the replay, and it was definitely my mistake. It is too bad that it ended that way because I wanted to see our battle continue for the rest of the race.

And my last battle in the race was with Bad Blood for a third place finish. I was able to sneak past on the outside of some downhill left hand corner.  It was really tense for a few corners afterwards, but then I could relax. It was really amazing that the car drove as good as it did considering it took a few wallops.

Good race all, I look forward to the next one, I hope that the non-finishers have better luck next time out.

Rather scrappy race.  Ran wide into the Sud-curve & tagged Badblood as I was trying control the car. He got me back in the twisty bit outside the stadium section so I call that quits but will let the moderation sort that out.
Messed up the braking on lap 2 which cost me a Stop & Go. Very lonely after that.  Laps 4 & 5 were much better & I managed to close up on Rog’s tail before the end.
Main objective was to knock some time off my GPL rank & having got below 9 minutes that has been achieved.
Nurburg is a bit of a marmite track & I’m not a big fan.
Well done to Dave R & the podium for doing it properly.

Should have said well done to the top three. So Walt biffed JP eh? Definitely should be demoted for that whereas my tangle with Bill was a pure accident.... Wink

Took 9.5 seconds off my best so my rank has come down a bit as well and I am now below the 108% in GPLRank for all the tracks.... missed out on 107% by 0.4 secs....

I was kept busy doing some mangling during practice, so spent the first race lap, exploring the properties of car and country folk of the region, on full tanks.  A brief clatter had caused leader Dave to scatter, at turn 3, and I was somehow in front for the 1st lap?

The road ahead was strangely quiet, and I remained out of earshot of a snarling David.  So with car and driver improving, and with laps winding down, an unexpected win seemed imminent.  Until disaster stuck - out of fuel with a half lap left.  Grumble! blink

A snarling Dave was now close at hand, and a handful of Honda was under my feet. I'd a tail to tell, but it wasn't listening, and there was a nasty moment as my opponent pounced.  I wrestled into his slipstream up the long straight, and was on his tail nearing the final chicanery.  But alas, a stop and go awaited my end, and the battle was lost.

I suspect the best man won, and hope my unworthy savagery Roll Eyes has thus, been forgiven.

A rather mixed affair, I span all by myself at about turn 5 on lap 1 but no matter there were plenty of cars in front to dice with. I had a small off avoiding a stricken ferrari but head down and got onto the chaps in front. I followed Walt and Rog and got into a tow on the final straight- I don't blame anyone for my brush with the bushes- I was on the edge and trying to slow- a racing incident- I wouldn't like Walter to be penalised for this thank you. A reset stop and go and try again knowing there is no safety net now- I did a marvellous pass on a Ferrari going up the hill but the warm glow didn't last long as the car in front span and I could not avoid hitting it side on. I didn't get much further as I managed to pluck a wheel off going for gold.

The car I hit towards the end of my race was I believe Kai- I saw some F and L's on tbe chat and know exactly what you mean- if you have any grievance about me hitting you side on after you span I suggest you report it to the moderator. A car in the middle of the road is quite at risk of being hit- this time it was me accidentally and unavoidable. May I suggest you don't use chat for your oubursts-there are plenty of console gamers who dont mind it but not in legends thank you.  Congratulations to the podium and especially Dave R- for a heroic qualifying.

Grats D Rainier on win
Grats to Podium

Managed to avoid the scraps early on in race, then had some good racing with Walter, but he was faster than me and soon left me behind, rest of race on my own till last lap when Billy caught me.

Moderation read.  All the race incidents mentioned would until recently, have received a penalty.  Moderation policy has changed.  This stuff is kept dark and mysterious at Ukgpl.

Penalties were stiffened a while back, because cars tangled too often.  Relaxed penalties mean you're generally happier with our behavior.  Most are experienced, and you wish to be friendly.  It would seem friendly to explain policy choices, so I just did! Tongue Roll Eyes
