Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 13 & 14 - Enna Pergusa - 69Xtra

Welcome to the next round for the Friday Trophy. Enna Pergusa circles lake Pergusa in Siciliy. Historically it did host a non-championship Formula 1 Race, the Mediterranean Grand Prix.  There are no chicanes & no left hand turns. Being a short, high speed track it should produce some close racing & drafting opportunities. Watch out for turn 4, the entry looks a lot faster than the exit.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to use a 4WD, any wingless car or the BRM
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_8
IP address = tbc
Race date = 05-09-2014
Variant = 69X
Damage Model = intermediate
Track = Enna

Qualifying 1 Time = 20 minutes, starting  20:45 UK time
Race 1 Time = race 1 starts at ~21:05 UK time
Race 1 length = 15 minutes (13 laps )

Qualifying 2 Time = 10 minutes, starting  ~21:25 UK time
Race 2 Time = race 2 starts at ~21:35 UK time
Race 2 length = 30 minutes (26 laps )

Password: see above
Replay = will be here

Drivers having missed race1 can join the server for the Quali of race2 in IGOR

Please restrict chat to only real necessary messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Races will be moderated for reported incidents only unless there is something VERY BAD happening!! so be nice to each other. Wink

Oh dear, oh dear.
With that company, I was never going to do well;   but after getting confused & thinking the 2nd to last corner was the last one;  ripped off a wheel early in event 1.
Then changing into 6th gear & running in that for a while (not that I had one) probably helped the engine problem way before 50% mark.  Maybe a too low 5th gear also helped.  And maybe some inaproppriate downshifts;  and some potential speedshifts...

For event2;  adjusted 5th a few clicks.  Maybe too much.  Times improved once I realised maybe it wasn't necessary to change into 3rd gear at a couple of corners.
But even then was dropping back rapidly.   Just over halfway,  realised that I had forgotten it was a longer race so ran of out fuel.  It was over 50% distance,  so just used the reset in an inappropriate manner.  Then was absolutely reeled-in & passed by the field.

It then dawned on me  - wings!
In Panchine I reduced the wingage significantly following a couple of throwaway comments in chat.  Maybe that would have been useful here too...
As well as some practice running of course.

Never mind; too late now. Time for a beer.

Cheers all,
Dave.

A double lap 1 disco tonight.. BT didn't like the idea of GPL in primetime hours....  Roll Eyes That, or it knew I would be totally off the pace without a setup in the M9a. Perhaps I should have brought the Panchine setup in the MS84!

I owe a huge apology to Mark for making contact on the last lap of race 2. I had been very apprehensive about overtaking on this track, but I thought that it was worth a try on the last lap. I attempted to keep the Matra MS80 on the inside line in the slowest corner, but I drifted into innocent Mark. I am sorry Mark.

OK, thanks Walter.  Tough round for me.  I had a quick go in the BRM and thought it wasn't that much better that the Lotus.  But Axel and Greg showed how quick it really was.  I screwed up my race in heat 1.  Heat 2 was better, but still made mistakes, and then got hit at the end.  Grats to Axel and Andreas.

Got home just in time for heat 1. As I hadn't practiced at all and would only have a handfull of quali laps I chose a slow car, the Brabham BT20, in order not to get in the way and practice a bit for heat 2. Ended up dead last with lap times more than three seconds off the pace.

For heat 2 I needed a faster car to even be remotely competitive, but I still wanted a wingless car, to bring some extra color to the field. So I picked the Lotus 49 Smiley . Once again only got a couple of quali laps in, experimented with the front wing angle a bit and settled on a setting of 1, since any more was practically undriveable. Followed the rest of the field around for a bunch of laps untill I took advantage of some mishaps made by others, including driving underneath Greg in the BRM, whose car actually touched my rollbar! I managed to reel in Walter and Andreas a bit despite a very oversteery car, and found myself in a 5 way battle for the lead! Unfortunately I then got carried away in the slipstream a bit and spun, but I managed to keep the front runners within a reasonable distance despite a slight lack of pace. In the last lap Walter and Mark collided so I was able to snatch an unexpected podium finish Smiley . Good fun.

Except:

What is the justification for that restriction, anyway?

Oops, I wasn't aware! I just picked a slow car for heat 1 since I was unprepared and didn't want to get in the way whilst practicing for the second race. Hope that's all right.

We can ignore/delete that rule? That's my vote, at least.
