Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0

Only one incident in the Red Zone of note.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m09s

Dean loses control up front and spins across the track. So far so racing incident but this causes a bit of mayhem and Ronnie tags Clive and BB tags Bill who have both slowed. Although Ronnie and BB both slowed they were a little too heavy footed.

Server replay time: 0h05m30s

Axel is taken out by Bernie. Bernie has braked early but has not allowed enough for the tow. The fact he flys past the car on the left should have been a clue.

Server replay time: 0h19m02s

Dean overtakes Bernie and outbrakes himself. Bernie thinks playing in the sand looks like fun so joins in, flipping Dean. Nothing to see here really.

What is more interesting is the lead up to the overtake. Bernie thinks that Dean is going to pass on the left and moves (a bit right) but because the track turns left here he has to come back left.

Bernie is not positive enough in his movement to give a clear steer to Dean. Ideally he should have got right to one side or the other and stuck to it.

The exchange on the forum was a bit unnecessary. I think Dean was genuinely offering advice and Bernie took umbrage and Dean bit back.

Take a look at the replay from each other's PoV before posting. Might save some angst.

Season 27 Historic Trophy - Round 3 - Carthage

Welcome back to the Season 27 Historics Trophy for 1966 model Chassis after our mid-summer break. Having come back from the beach we are going to....

...the beach! For the third round we visit the sand dunes of North Africa and the ancient city of Carthage in Tunisia. Last time out it was the GTs getting stuck in the sand which can be sticky so be aware.

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

For THIS RACE, 3 liter cars must be selected

For the first three rounds at least, there will be no restrictions.

Most people would have assumed this is a 2L race?

The first race was 2L, 2nd race 3L so this one 2L?

Quick response might prevent unhappy drivers.

I assume this is a cut and paste error. This should be a 2L race?

Sorry chaps - no it isn't a cut and paste error - it IS 3L. It was the first two rounds that I got wrong. I have tried to do 3L for the more 'power' circuits - and I muffed up in the order. That means that Carthage, Kyalami, Spa, Sebring will all be 3 Litre whereas Mont-Tremblant, Schottenring, Zeltweg and the Glen will all be 2L. I know Zeltweg would normally be 3L and the Glen could be as well but Watkins is short. This was the best balance I thought I could achieve.

Sorry for any confusion. Same for everyone though. I will make sure we alternate form here on in.

Well nobody did take a 2L car and I qualified last (just). Very careful into T1 and then carnage at T2. Stopped then as I started Bill had to stop again in front of me as somebody rejoined a bit carelessly. I tapped Bill (sorry mate) but we both went on then at the chicane Bill took a very different line to me and I caught him VERY fast. Took evasive and found myself up to my axles in beach. Took about 40 secs to recover and then I managed to close the gap by 0.01 miles in three laps. Tried a bit hard and got sandbagged at T2 (literally).

Sort of fun but lonely.

Sorry to Axel for the "nudge " on L2 . I was braking hard as possible without locking brakes but it seems you were braking harder , not really sure if we actually touched , there may have been some warp contact but hope it didnt spoil your day too much  Roll Eyes

Wasn't easy to beat Arf's time but managed it in the end in quali. First laps were exciting, and broke away with Arf, until he spun in the last chicane...after that again did a Vettel Tongue Despite the strong tow I set my best laps without it Wink

Thanks for racing and well done Tristan and Arf, and finishers! As always commiserations to the retirements...

Yeah Bernie, maybe it was the tow that made the braking worse Wink
But np, my race was short and I had allready had another collision in L1T1 with a back bouncing Fez...

The Ferrari was so much faster here with a top speed of 305 without and 325kph with tow, the BT19 I had tried before was at 295kph Shocked

I was going to try the fezzer , realised the Brabham was a bad choice , but we had visitors all afternoon and by the time I got rid of them it was to late for me to find a ferrari setup so decided to go with the old faithful .

Better the devil you know than the one you don't

Was having a good race with Clive and David before the mishap , luckily I think they were able to carry on

Cant say I enjoyed the track much , to many long straights , and every time a car passed I got sand in every orifice

I will submit a report and plead the usual insanity  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I was all set to race, but something came up right before qualifying. I would have enjoyed trying to keep pace with Badblood. I agree with Bernie's comments regarding the track.  laugh

As ever with me, a night of ups and downs. I set what I thought would be an OK time early on in qually, and then loaded up with race fuel and started checking if adjustments were needed, and how much fuel to use. Got increasingly excited that no one was beating my time, although not at all surprised that Rob did so in the end, more that others didn't. The fact that I appeared to have nailed a killer setup for this race was entirely accidental, and sadly won't happen again any time soon.......

As Rob says, we got away from everyone else, mostly because Tris and Dean had moments at the tricky left hander, and I assumed we'd see the lap times tumble as we drafted each other...not so. As Rob said, I (think) I did my fastest laps when I was in clean air. A careless change down on Lap 3 ruined the party for me. I lost balance, span into the kerb and recovered well behind Rob with a car that could no longer turn left ('minor problems with right front suspension' my a**e!!!). I was still quick though, and whilst I never really expected to fend off the fast approaching Tris, I did have some hope of holding onto third if I could keep it together, which luckily I was able to do, despite numerous offs at the left handers....

I guess I feel lucky to have held P3, would have been nice to race Robert for longer...

WD to finishers... commiserations etc etc

Think I was mostly responsible for Dean's demise at Carnage corner , Dean had just drafted by me going into said bend and lost it in front of me , I tried the stoppers , ran wide  (probably the tow effect again ?) and poor Deano's ferrari ( see what I did there) surprised by what had happened , leaped over the fence in a failed attempt to avoid me (in the best prancing horse tradition)  , unfortunately his landing was worse than his take off resulting in ferrari finito .

Didn't realise you had to retire Dean so sorry and commiserations from Soggy Bottom land .

(another one for the mods ?)
