Season 27 Friday Trophy - Rounds 15 & 16 - Enna Pergusa - Sport Cars

Welcome to the next round for the Friday Trophy. The Autodromo di Pergusa circles lake Pergusa in Siciliy.
During the 1960s, the track hosted various sportscar events such as the Coppa Citta di Enna and later in the 1970s the Coppa Florio.
Historically it did host a non-championship Formula 1 Race, the Mediterranean Grand Prix.  There are no chicanes & no left hand turns. Being a short, high speed track it should produce some close racing & drafting opportunities. Watch out for turn 4, the entry looks a lot faster than the exit.

This seasons tracks will be easy and well known to have a smaller time gap between the lights and heavies,
if there is a too big gap on a track, a stop and go for the lights in the 30min race will be recommended!

This is really designed to be a fun series with 3 different car mods
- running 1 sprint length race of ~15 min and a ~30 min race with the same car.
- ONE SHIFT-R with NO Stop n Go

Light drivers are restricted to use a Chaparral MK2D, Lola T70, Ford GT40 Mk4 or a Mirage
Heavy drivers will allways have a free car choice!

Thanks for the set-up Cookie! I didn't have much time for practice this week, and it was a big help to just focus on my driving. I was too late for race one. In race two, I made too many mistakes to challenge Dave C., but it was fun trying. Hopefully, I will be able to practice more for the Can-Ams.

See you next time,
Walter

Congratulations Mark, Axel, Dean!

I'm almost shocked that I got a win. I sure wasn't expecting it. I was only able to get about 1/2 hour of practice before qualifying started. I was able to get a half decent lap time but it wasn't until the 1st heat was almost over before I started getting a good feel for the car.

I guess Axel destroyed his engine in the 2nd heat? I had my graphics scaled back in the GT mod to try to run it at 60fps so I never saw any smoke or fire from his car. That's why I hit a tree I couldn't see at Panchine. I had trackside objects set to many instead of all. Axel lost his engine not long after I started thinking I'd stay behind him for a while to preserve the engine and reduce the tire temps. Mark started reeling me in pretty quickly until I decided to run as fast as I could whether the engine blew up or not. Luckily I was consistent in the 2nd heat. That was the only thing that kept Mark from catching me.

Thanks Axel for managing the series and your diligence in providing a practice server. You're a real asset to the GPL community and UKGPL.

Take care guys.

Congrats Greg!  I was keeping an eye on my climbing engine temps as well, but thankfully it all held together.  I clipped the haybales late in heat 2 and that dropped me back - it's such a narrow line to get the big Chapp through without lifting.

Thanks Axel for always providing your free server and for what you do for UKGPL! Also sharing your knowledge for free and without hesitation...without guys like you we would be nowhere Wink We can't take this for granted and therefore I like to show my gratitude  angel

Also grats Mark, and especially Greg. If one guy deserves wins it is you. Lots of respect on my part Wink
