Moderator's Report

Andreas gets a bit bogged down off the line and breath is held as both Cookie and Colin pass closely either side, but all is well which means no incidents and nothing in the Red Zone.

Well Done.

Season 27 Historic Trophy - Round 4 - St Jovite

The fourth round of the season will be at Mont-Tremblant in Quebec. The track was buit in 1964 and hosted the first ever CanAm race (in 1966, winner John Surtees on a Lola)  and two Formula 1 GP (in 1968, winner Denny Hulme and in 1970, winner Jacky Ickx, in 1970 it was also the first ever  F1 GP for a Tyrell).

There will be full moderation of lap one Red Zone and reported incidents for the rest of the race. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

The full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available.  Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join.  If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left.

Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

The race will be run under PRO rules so no resets are allowed.

For THIS RACE, 2 liter cars must be selected

For this round, the leaders are asked to restrict themselves to Group I and Group II

Tristan can use the Group I cars: Lotus 33 Climax and T1F Eagle Climax .

Doni and Andreas can use a Group II car: Brabham BT11 2.5lt or Lotus 33 BRM

Thanks for the racing Tommie. Before anyone asks, no, I was not riding shotgun for Tristan although it may have seemed like that laugh

Shame me engine blew but good luck to yourself and everyone else still running.

Neither my head nor my heart was in this race this evening and maybe I should not have taken part.

Apologies to Doni for the contact, and to anyone else who found me in their way.

I wasn't expecting much from this race, and I wasn't disappointed. No time to prep, 3/4 secs off the pace in the 10 mins of qually I managed. Still managed to lap reasonably consistently and slowly reduce lap times..to only being 2/3 secs off pace. Was 8th when my engine went at the half way point....

Martin, you gave me the world's biggest fright when you disappeared for about 10 secs! Prib said you'd gone from 80/90 yards ahead of me to 700 yards behind me but you suddenly appeared beside my front right contesting a corner...shame you connection never seems to improve...

Thank you, it was awesome! Grin Managed to survive the whole race without any practice beforehand, and salvaged a P2 just in front of Iestyn who was racing at a blistering pace! Also thanks to Robert! Very close racing going on.

Gotta watch the replay Grin

Very disappointing race for me, and can only blame myself. Quali was already so-so, got lucky with pole. But changed the setup before the race, and that did backfire on me...already went off after a few turns and from then on the race went downwards...

Got stuck behind Ronnie and Tommie after a few offs, and when checking up for a loose Tommie, Iestyn went by...then spun and later around Lap 12 or so got lost on the track and forgot to brake...suspension and engine damage and was sitting duck after that...had half a dozen offs or so but could salvage P5...

Grats Tristan, Tommie and Iestyn. Good job Dean and tough luck Ray Wink

An exercise in frustration Roll Eyes.. namely, how poor the internet connections are in the UK. I'm looking at you, British Telecom..  Angry

Apart from cars jumping all over, there was actually a good race going on.. pre-race, it looked like I didn't have the pace on my first run. So, I forwent my second run, to try and fix the connection.. bad move, as nothing changed. A second run could also have moved me up the grid, in retrospect.

After a slow start (the second run would have let me improve gearing and tyre temps further), I got by Dean and settled down into 5th. Once I saw that everyone in front wasn't pulling away from me, I decided to have a go, thinking that if I could get to into 2nd, I could at least try and chase Tris down. Now, I have to say, aiming between jumping cars feels like you are playing Russian roulette! Coming over the hill, once past Tommie and Rob quite quickly, this time it felt like a rear-ending of Ronnie was imminent, so I went left, caught the barrier, and lost it on the grass.. maybe if I was less frustrated, I could have saved it. Or been more patient..

A few laps later, after starting to close the gap, 3rd pops into Neutral and I spin entering S2.. Frustration is now at maximum! Dean just goes by, but I almost pressure a pass a few corners later (unlucky to spin on the outside, Dean). Thus, the chase back to the podium train sets in... first Rob is recovering in S3, then I catch Tommie near race end, after passing a spluttering Ronnie. One or two half-attempts can't do it, in the remaining 3 laps, as Tommie defends well to claim 2nd, and lappers leave lots of room, ruling out any Zonta passes (I was thinking about it, approaching the last corner, but there's no way I could rear-end Bernie two races in a row Tongue).

So, as it all turns out, I actually had the pace to give Tris a good race.. maybe next time, buddy!  Wink

Sorry to be the mobile chicane again Iestyn I could see you were warping like a jelly on a plate so tried to give you as much room as possible . Your frustration is matched by mine , even more so as I just cant get the hang of this 66 mod , no idea how to set the cars up , I'm way too slow and getting way too old, blue flags waving have become a regular feature by now but looking on the bright side at least I get to give  give the rest of you boys some target practise !

Well done on the podium , great stuff  Smiley

Despite my early exit I too noticed warping, so I don't think it was your connection Iestyn.

My connection is usually solid ( the only exception being Martin's hyper space leaps which are down to his wireless connection ??) and cars that I would normally expect to stay where they are , were jumping, especially in close company.

Bernie, just can just copy over your 1965 Lotus setups to 1966, works out of the box! That what I did with my car anyway. I used a Mosport setup for the 1965 Lotus 33 for my 1966 Lotus 33 BRM. Just changed the gearing a bit, and pumped up the tires 1 psi. Make sure you pay attention to the tire pressure so it reads the same as default! It's the only thing that doesn't work out of the box all the time Smiley .

You can find your player folder at the following address:

C:\Sierra\GPL\players\Darwin__Bernie66\setups\

I copied a 1965 setup from my 1965 player's mosport setup folder, to my 1966 player's stjovite setup folder. I had to change the extention from the original .lo1 to .lq1 to get my 1966 Lotus 33 BRM to recognise the setup in game, but it worked. I think that when you want to use a 1965 Lotus setup for the 1966 Lotus 33 Climax that you were using, you have to change the extention from .lo1 to .lp1 .

Recap:

1.) Go to your 1965 player's mosport setup folder: C:\Sierra\GPL\players\Darwin__Bernie65\setups\mosport
2.) Copy your favorite Lotus setup (file extention .lo1)
3.) Go to your 1966 player's stjovite setup folder: C:\Sierra\GPL\players\Darwin__Bernie66\setups\stjovite
4.) Paste your favorite Lotus setup in this folder
5.) Rename the file extention from .lo1 to .lp1 (.lp1 for '66 Climax, .lq1 for '66 BRM)
6.) Drive Smiley .

You can find more setups at the GPLTD: http://gpltd.bcsims.com/?sbtd=mosport (Downloading a setup can take quite a while for some reason, perhaps one minute, patience is required Grin )

I have to say the level of competition seems extremely high at the moment, so having a setup that you like is mandatory Smiley .

My plan was to take a handicapper, to avoid crossing swords with those towards the pointy end.  So was surprised to remain within striking distance of Clive, but managed to tag along.  Wishing the megapoint maniac a speedy recovery from destruction and distraction. hammer

My luck grew worse when the track width shortened, and it's length longthened?

Race Server quality was less than perfect, and not helpful to a Wi-fi-er.  Lestyn & I raced happily last week on a USA Server, where the connection seemed strong, with the distance, long.   Stop by at the local for a quick one, and there's trouble.  If I cause consequences during a race, I'll park it and go drown my sorrows early.

Saw also a bit of warp, but thought it was me as all other cars warped away on occasion...

BTW I interchange setups through GPLSM....load the original setup and then change mod/car in GPLSM, and trackfolder (if you want it for another track)...change the gearing eventually and save your "new" setup in the right trackfolder...

First half of the race was kind of fun though also frustrating...after I passed Ronnie made a crucial mistake and found out my tweaks to the setup made my exit to the backstraight worse...lost out on all cars there even though over a lap I had more pace...
