Firstly, thanks to The SBRC for some setup help prior to the race and the advice about how to protect the front tyres.
It actually worked too well, because I eased back mid race when I thought I was using the rubber up too quickly. I had to push hard to squeeze past Dan in the early laps and then put in some clean consistant laps to get away from Frederico who remained close enough to take advantage of any major mistake throughout the race.
That was when I let Clive Loynes go as I was afraid of screwing up my safe 2nd spot in the final laps if I pushed too hard, too soon. As it turned out I had ample rubber left and I could have given Clive something to think about had I maintained the pressure
But I doubt that I could have matched his ultimate pace and gone for glory without something nasty happening to both of us
. For me the tyre wear aspect of PnG is something that I still have a problem with, maybe next time I am going to go for broke and see what happens lol!!!
It has taken almost the whole season to slowly and painfully adapt to the PnG physics from years of GPL immersion, but finally I think I am getting a grip on it..... maybe. So I hope that there are more races next season so that I can join the fun.
Grats to all the finishers and thanks for the fun guys.
