Moderator's Report

SUMMARY

George -cg7aa- Cheeseman leads the race from start to finish in a Lotus. A very dominant display enabling him to win for the first time in UKGPL! Championship leader Phil Thornton finishes a solid second in another Lotus. A very impressive performance by Fabio -il lupo mannaro- Locarno in the Brabham to complete the podium in his homerace. Congratulations to all!

Sadly the race started with an incident when Bernie spun in Curva Grande and collected a couple of cars. There were no reported incidents.

Server replay time: 0h01m11s

After the start Billy Nobrakes goes slightly to the left when David Rainier blows up his engine. Bernie gets caught out when Billy lifts early before Curva Grande and goes left from Billy -trying to avoid him- touching the grass and spinning towards the inside of Curva Grande and spinning back on the track. Bernie collects some cars sadly, like Michael Turner and Paul -badblood- Whitfield who needs a reset. Jason Blito and Pierre Demarle did a great job avoiding the mess.

Advice - Bernie should be more cautious after the start even when Billy lifted quite early.

Server replay time: 0h04m18s

Fransesco does not come to a full stop serving his Stop & Go penalty. Incorrect pitstop.

Did go easy in T1 but couldn't avoid a spinner. That cost me a stop but the Lotus enabled me to reel in several cars and then lose them all as the engine blew up and I was being VERY gentle with it.

Problems with the PC meant that my setup was far from ideal and it was a bit like driving a bar of soap. Went offline and practiced in the Eagle and got into the 1:30's comfortably with a super stable car - trying to go green made me crash a lot though...

Chasing Jase, David, Fran, Pierre, Michael was fun while it lasted. Back to the Brabby next time... and maybe a point or two would be nice...

Really struggled to find the braking point for Parabolica during qually  – which is daft considering how many times I’ve raced at Monza.

Start of the race worked out quite well, I missed all the accidents & saw a couple of front runners pop their engines. First few laps I was following Fabio but that all ended after a visit to the gravel trap at Parabolica. Dave C inherited 4th place but found it wasn’t to his liking & disappeared after a few laps. The last 20 laps were quite uneventful, not really making any in-roads to Fabio’s lead & not losing ground to Rainier in 5th. In fact most of my race was A Black Night Team event.

Cracking pace up front by George – a 1.27 lap would probably have won the Works race, never mind the Privateers. I could see a podium but that would have meant Phil or Fabio having a major problem & they were all very consistent.

Welcome back to the grid Jason – a cooper at Monza is a brave choice.

PS. Jethro - the server connection was very solid.

Quite a lonely race for me.  George was just too quick tonight.  I tried to stay with him on lap 1 but I had to give the Eagle behind me some room on the first few corners which just gave George enough time to get a gap and break the tow.  After that it was just a matter of waiting until George made a mistake which he never did.  Grats on the win George clap

Grats to Jason on a good finish in his comeback race thumbup2

Thanks. This was probably the best race I've driven in a while because I made few mistakes. I concentrated hard on hitting my marks. I dare say it would have been different if I was chasing or being chased.  The race pace was quite slow actually.  I was hoping to get into the 1min 27s and break Andy's fastest race lap from the last time we raced here but I just couldn't. Too conservative I guess.

Thanks Robert. In the 10 years or so I've been playing GPL on and off, I must have run thousands of laps around Monza. Put me on a non original track of any length and I struggle. It takes me a while to learn tracks. My simple brain copes well with short uncomplicated laps well.

Monza is always a beautiful track!!
I guess I did the best I could with a Brabby against Lotus and Eagle.
Anyway, first one of the Brabbies and first one of the Black Night's  clap
See you on Austria then.
Cheers from real Monza

Thank you Greg. It sounds like you works boys had an eventful race! Looking at your qualifying times, us privateers have a long way to go in terms of finding time. Daunting task. You're so fast!

LOL. Alright but the works drivers can sustain that sort of pace throughout the race and possibly go quicker I think.

It was for sure a Works worthy performance by George. To be correct his quali time would be good for P7, 6th fast lap, and his racetime would place him P3!

@ all Privateers: please report incidents before next Monday 06-10-2014!

"Jason Blito and Pierre Demarle did a great job avoiding the mess."

Kind words but perhaps I am not deserving of such high praise, having qualified last I had the luxury of a leisurely cruise down the Curve Grande knowing there would be cars strewn all over the track by the time I got there. One simply cannot beat having a grandstand view of the carnage and time enough to ensure oneself does not get caught up in it. Perhaps if I spent more tokens on a better car then I may have been further up the grid and then I too would have ended my evening upside down and in flames.
As it was I benefited enormously from my total lack of pace.
