Season 27 Works Trophy - Round 5 - SalzburgringAfter Monza we visit another fast track, the Salzburgring in Austria. The race track was first opened in 1968. Lying in a narrow, alpine valley, it has a rather simple layout, with two long straights plus the sweeping and fast "Fahrerlagerkurve" ("paddock turn") at the bottom of the course, and the narrow "Nockstein-Kehre" at the top. In spite of its simple layout, it garnered a fearsome reputation for the high speeds reached on the straights and the "Fahrerlagerkurve". Aussie 500cc two-wheeler great Wayne Gardner won here in 1987 on his way to Australia's first modern motorcycle racing World Title. This track is fearsomely fast, should be fun! There are more versions but we use Salzburgring76! Race List = iGORServer = UKGPL_8 IP address = 95.114.107.48 Race date = Sunday 12-10-2014 Race Time = race starts at 21:30 UK time (21:30 GMT) Qualifying Time = Between 30 and 60 minutes, starting no later than 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT) Track = Salzburgring76 or use GPL TrackbaseVariant = 67F1 Damage Model = Pro Race length = 39 Laps (50 minutes) Password: see aboveReplays Available hereDriver lists can be found on the championship standings pageThe full time drivers can start to practice as soon as the server is available. Reserve drivers can also join as soon as the server becomes available but must leave the server with 35 minutes of qualifying left, for a total of 5 minutes; this will allow any remaining full timers to join. If there is enough space on the grid, the reserve drivers will be able to rejoin when there are 30 mins of qualifying left. Moderating The red zone will be fully moderated from the start to the exit of Semperit Kurve on Lap 1. Other moderation will be on reported incidents only. However any incidents that occur in the red zone that are not reported by the drivers will be reported by the moderator. This will allow all affected drivers the opportunity to present their case before the incident is moderated. This should ensure there are no surprises when the moderator's report is published and hence appeals will be less likely. If you haven't received a PM about an incident before the link below the results table is removed, you can be sure that you will not appear in the moderator's report. The chassis token system is explained on the Works standings page. Please ensure you choose a chassis that is within your budget, which can be seen by hovering the mouse over your points total in the standings. Please restrict chat to pit messages including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

YIKES! Only just realized that this is the chicaned version. As Salz74 is known to be a bit of disco heaven, let's hope that the version we're running later today is less problematic.

There's a practice server available (most of) today if you want to try it out. From my experience, no mass disconnections.

I've got a stinking cold so plucked for the Beast from Bourne as I didn't expect to finish... It would have been nice to manage more than 6/7 laps though before the lurgy initiated crash occured, as I was having a blast battling with Tom for about 10th Hopefully I'll be feeling less like I died on Tuesday

Wow. Hoped this race could salvage my weekend but it was the icing on the cake...
After start I made a mistake and shifted into 1st gear into the hairpin, and had a bad exit because of it as well. Defended against Bob and knew Greg was left behind. Then approaching the fast left kink I didn't know Greg was alongside, just had watched the left hand view and he wasn't there and Bob was behind me, so I just wanted to take my line and suddenly Greg was already there on the inside...
My own mistake, hope you didn't suffer from it Greg and following cars...

I wasn t very fast in the Brab and we seemed roughly even. Later I had a slighly boring race trying to follow hmmm Geber was it?. seemed he had a damage but I still couldn t catch. I rolled in to a 6 th due to all the misfortunates

LOL, I am excluded as I have taken a car I had not enough tokens for... By this 50% rule I have never made any points and therefore no tokens are shown Shame I saw Tris disappearing on the grid Had a pretty good pace but after some laps my LF got such hot that I had to give in...

I dodged a bullet named Axel! Dean came even closer! That's a shame Axel. You were running a good race.

Congratulations Iestyn and Tom! That was very good drive by both you. Iestyn was most consistent and set fast lap on the final lap! Very impressive! You can't ask for any better. My commiseration with Rob. I'm not proud of what I did to you. It was a bit cruel. I didn't really want to try to pass you. I had to go wide through Semperit to avoid your car. That opened me up for Bob. As slow as we were into Semperit, gave me the thought that you might struggle more with the BRM than I will with the Honda early in the race. If an early opportunity arose I should take it. That played a little part with my zeal into the next turn. I wanted to back off a bit before we collided but Bob was all over us. I didn't really know where to go. I tried to stay as far inside as I could, hoping you knew I was there and would run a little wider line through the turn and then the drag race down the back straight would better sort things. I never felt anything in my steering wheel but I suspected I hit you. It didn't hurt my car at all Rob. I hated doing that to you. That was a tough race. I struggled with qualifying. Traffic almost kept me out of the 15's. I think I can get the Honda down to 15.5. Andreas' Lotus had me scared at one point so I ended up ruining a great qualifying run. I knew it was going to be tough with the only car in front of me being Rob's BRM that I thought I might keep pace with. The four cars that qualified behind me looked to be a real challenge. Bob was about even with me. Tom and Dean, I knew would likely get faster in the race. Donnie's Brabham wasn't going to be easy either. Other than punting Rob, spinning once at the chicane, and getting a lousy exit out the last turn on the final lap, I drove a good race. I was able to hold off Bob and then I held off Tom for a few laps. Dean put a lot of pressure on me the last 12 laps too. On lap 27 I started thinking if I can run 1:16 flat for the rest of the race, the 5 second lead I have on Dean will be just enough. Then I spin losing 3.5 seconds. I was pushing the car more than I wanted to hold that 5 second gap and then it was gone. I wasn't going to roll over easy. Unfortunately with Dean on my tail after a few more laps, I started losing a few tenths from tiny mistakes which made it even worse. I knew the Honda would be tough to pass on the straights by anything but a Lotus or Eagle. I held off Dean miraculously for 9.9 laps. It took everything I had. My hands were soaked with sweat! With my slow exit in the penultimate turn, it looked like Dean had 3rd place. I wasn't sure and knew it was going to be close until suddenly things get much quieter. I wasn't sure if Dean discoed or lost an engine. I knew I'd get you someday for Enna. GPL smiled upon me. It wasn't going to let you get me after such a good drive in a Honda! You guys did an excellent job that got stuck behind me through the Fahrerlager and the chicane. I know it had to be tough following such a slow car through there. It looks like I needed to improve my line into the chicane but I think I was taking the only line the Honda was willing to follow. It was great to get such a good result! It helps make up for the rotten luck and stupid mistakes I've been making this season. Thanks guys. I appreciate the fun.

Congrats Iestyn, well done Tommie and great job in the Honda Greg! Thanks Greg, but it's just simple, I messed up, you did nothing wrong. Should have been aware and should have left enough room... Loosened up the car because I was afraid of getting too tight in the race (LF) and always would struggle to keep you guys behind me, especially first few laps...making that mistake downshifting into 1st instead of 2nd didn't help... I think Andy suffered from it damaging his car avoiding me when I bounced back on the track...sry m8

Well, in the end, Lotus was a bit of an overkill here, but I had Ray to think about, and when I fluffed getting a low 14 in Q, he nabbed pole position. However, once he was out of the race, I just had to bring it home - a few times the gear slipped out, which gave me a fright . I went a little faster at the end, to 'do a Vettel' and secure fastest lap. But, all race, it felt like I was a lone 2014 Mercedes. If I had prepared, then I should've taken Ferrari - thus I'll have to take it at Road Atlanta, Bremgarten or Parco Sempione instead. Or if I miss events, not at all, who knows

My own mistake, hope you didn't suffer from it Greg and following cars...
From the intimate view I had it looked like warp...but even without that, contact was likely Took the cooper for this one, woefully outgunned on the straights and in hindsight I probably should have stuck with the BRM I used in praccy. Still, the handling was pretty nice, esp through the final few corners. Congrats on the qually time in the BRM Rob, I know you're fast but you deserve a medal for that! I made a pretty good start but was wary of getting too close to those in front for the first few corners, however after Rob's issue that was precisely how things developed, I was pretty sure something bad was going to happen and was relieved not to have caused it, tough luck Rob. After that I chased Greg for a few laps, bit of cat 'n' mouse, he got away on the straights while I seemed to catch in the corners. I had to be careful not to hit you in the final chicane, but there was no way I could attempt to pass and was always outgunned down the following straight. Didn't matter though as after a few laps I went off at the hairpin and plummeted doon the order. I rejoined with Tim & Tom, who let me go and (quite) a few laps later I caught Jethro's BRM, however I lost concentration and shifted doon too early in the right hander prior to the final chicane, spinning the car into the barrier. GPL seemed to over egg the crash and I launched over the barrier coming to rest upside doon...game over. Gutted not to have seen the flag, even more so to have been so close to half distance, but at least I only have myself to blame. Cheers, Bob.
